The Nigerian government cancelled the deal in 2013. They could not meet their end of the agreement.

The deal had to be renegotiated.

Don't make mountain out of molehill here. Negotiation for funding of the project was ongoing even in Jonathan's administration despite the initial cancelation. The project itself was conceived as far back as 1982.

It does not change the fact that the successive Nigerian governments could not meet their part of the agreement, hence it had to be renegotiated.

Buhari has reached a deal now. Give him credit. Hopefully, the Nigerian government fulfills their part.

This project has met a lot of stonewalls from its conception way back in the 80s. I hope it gets done now so that it will not be said that the FG is all noise with no substance. For this government this has been the case from assumption of power till date. I hope this changes going forward.

you guys blame Jonathan for cancelling the projects. that's not true. when it not the same Jonathan than inaugurated the proposed Zungeru hydro power plant in Niger State after completing their counterpart funding. for ur information the counterpart funding for the mambilla was meant to sourced from the sale of the NIPP projects. this project was included by GEJ as the second phase of investment to be undertaken by the NDPHC. pls be informed and stop insulting ur ex presidents

Unfortunately, it is the south that will continue to lose in terms of sighting power projects. The unending incessant vandalization in the south will only put the north central in a position of being preffered for investment. At the end the south loses, the north wins.

Buhari doesn't deserve any special adulation for continuing with an ongoing project. He's probably doing this to score some political point. I expected him to initiate new power projects that compliment the existing ones instead of wasting 11 months on nothing. If he's so serious with all-round development why was Calabar-Lagos rail project excluded from his initial budget?

Who blamed Jonathan? We could not meet our 15% counterpart funding for Mambilla Plant so it had to be renegotiated.

It was not an ongoing project. It was cancelled and renegotiated.
