To think some idiots are supporting this amendment is shameful. If Saraki is guilty, let him face the music.

The constitution bars the National Assembly from making retroactive laws.

Thus, even if the proposed amendment is passed by both chambers, vetoed by the president, and the NASS overrides the veto with a 2/3 majority in both houses, the law would not apply to Saraki's case because his case commenced before the enactment of the law.

The Injustice Danladi Umar would soon be rendered jobless by the time this bill becomes law.The useless case at the CCT is already as good as dead dear.

Buhari and Tinubu must do everything in their power to make sure this bill is shot down in the house of representatives. We cannot condone the alteration on existing law to suit the whims of a corrupt public official, because it has very grave implications for the future. I hope the forces of good in both the senate and house muster enough courage to uphold the president's expected veto. By the way it takes 2/3rds of the 109 senators to override a presidential veto. That means saraki and his criminal gang of senators need at least 73 votes (assuming all 109 senators attend plenary on the day the vote is taken), while in the house of representatives it will also take 2/3rd of the 360 representatives, making the number required for an override to be 240(assuming also all members are in attendance). I doubt if saraki can muscle up that number. But if he eventually does then id say we just make the crook our president.

just wait and see!!! Buhari wants a tool to control the legislators. They will now unite and teach him some lessons in politics. The legislators know it is Saraki today and it can be any one of them tomorrow.

As for Tinubu, this is national politics and far beyond him.He is only a local champion

Some of us are celebrating this criminals who has looted this country, thinking that PMB will be a casualty. They have absolutely display their worth, not for the people but for themselves. Someone was accused of false assets declaration and embezzling the state fund. They best they can do is to change the law. How many law have they passed that will benefit the people. They woman right bill was through almost immediately.

What a shame!

It is not treason. It is comical really.

The senate has forgotten that laws are not retro-active meaning even if they get that bill signed, it does not apply to Senator Saraki's trial.

Plus the President is not going to sign, they can't get 2/3 of the HOR to effect a veto.

This is a waste of legislative hours

Are we not forgetting something here? Even if it passes both chambers, would it not require the signature of the president in order to become law?

What a shame!

Buhari forged WAEC certificates to contest for elections and people like you were hailing him and saying "even if he presents NEPA bill certificate,I will vote for him" and today you dare to lecture me on morality!!! are you for real?

The amendment favours all members of the assembly cos am sure the are all guilty of false declarations though they may have not been caught yet. None of them will ever want to be in Saraki's present shoes, so I'm sure the amendment will sail through both houses without a glitch.

well done my brave senators!!! That amendment must be passed into law before the end of next month!!! lets speed it up and ensure it gets to the executive for assent before monday

doesn't the president have to sign the bill before it can become law? The president cant sign such a law or else it rubbishes his anti-corruption message.

This is all down to Tinubu, he wants to control everything and it will come back to bite him if Saraki goes down. This government came into being due to 3 factions, Buhari and his CPC, Tinubu and AD, and Saraki/Amaechi from New PDP. Tinubu should just have allowed Saraki to be Senate president and there won't be any problem.

As things are there is no way this ends well for APC. They either fracture the Alliance or they weaken the president's anti-corruption mantra/image.

The president do not need to veto the bill. He only needs to keep it on the shelve where it belongs. He can just inform the press, he's studying it.

This is democracy at it's best. Politics is for those with valor and brains, not those with muscle and spit. I hope the HOR concurs with this, and not play to the gallery. Such laws will help limit the arsenal of the next administration, if they intend to play the same game as the Lagos National leader

He is holding a meeting with V.P Osinbajo right now to see ways to include the lag-cal railway into the budget
