ValerianSteel: All this talk about Obama being weak. What exactly would you have him do? Shoot the planes outta the sky? Besides the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea and the South China Sea are not exactly the U.S. neck of the woods. How would you feel if Russia was always on patrol in the Gulf of Mexico for instance? NairaMinted:The United States has right of passage in the Baltic. Some Baltic states are NATO members(Estonia,Latvia,Lithuania).Under NATO article, the United States has the right to patrol the Baltic Sea either jointly with a NATO member or on behalf of NATO as a body.As you know protecting the strategic interest of NATO and her members is top priority for the United States. Russia has no interest in the Gulf of Mexico, any Russian vessel in the Gulf will face the wrath of the United States. Obama hasn't shown a resolve handle Russia the real and hard way.Hillary Clinton is the only presidential hopeful with the right policy on Russia. She knows how to deal with Russia and her records shows her commitments to tackling Russian aggressions shows Russia can be put in the right place.Putin isn't a fan of Hillary,if there's one woman he loathes,it's her,she has him stuttering when they meet cause he knows she's the real deal and not the current soft POTUS. 1 Like |

Of course the US has every right to sail in international waters - including the Baltic. This is even more so considering that the Baltic states are also part of NATO. My pictorial illustration isn't an attempt to erase that fact. Think of it more or less as an illustration of the irony of the eastward expansion of the US sphere of influence under the guise of NATO; an organization that has seized to justify its existence since the fall of the Soviet Union. If Russia had the resources (and the will) to also establish a sphere of influence so close to Amerika's borders, would you say it's all fair and square? Anyone that fails to see the hegemony and the unnecessary tensions that Amerika's imperialistic posture triggers is blind and prejudiced. And about God's son, Putin quaking at the sight of bat-sh*t-crazy Killary, I laugh in Russian. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

And what can poor Hillary do? you guys think Russia is Ghadafi or those hapless desert nations that you can bully abt? and that is if she can even win half of what Trump would get in the general elections, should it get down to both. Appleyard: Sanctions are due to be renewed by July. the sanctions that was moved to 2017 is the Crimea individual sanctions. Most Russians (the real ones. not the asss eaters on NL) actually think their country is moving in the wrong direction. Hence, Putin's new national guard to protect himself just in case. 2 Likes |

Re: The Dramatic Moment Russian Fighter Jets 'buzzed' A US Navy Warship by NairaMinted: 7:17pm On Apr 14, 2016 |
Appleyard: The thing, my friend, with sanctions is their bite dissipates over time especially as the target country adapts to the situation and gradually decouples itself from the instruments that are used to wield sanctions. The window of opportunity to make the sanctions hurt is fast closing; several European leaders, scholars, economists, etc have called for the sanctions to be lifted as the Russian PM himself has predicted that they would; the farmers and businesses in Europe are hurting themselves from the naively imposed sanctions ( sanctions that were effected ONLY after an increasingly dubious MH17 incident occurred); Russia as the neo-cons had hoped hasn't lashed out in anger or frustration to sanctions and other provocations but has rather demonstrated it's sophistication and tact by playing the long game... and so on Renew the yeye sanctions! Sanctions ko, Sanchez ni... They will be shouting sanctions, sanctions, sanctions upandan......As if sanctions is the beginning and the end of the world 3 Likes |

When our brethren our the other end discover that their master have no other options, they easily fall back to a sanctions that is gradually loosing its teeth. Missy89:What a joke! Putin New National Guard keh! Na wow 4 u o, Missy The new national guard is to tackle issues ranging from terrorism to organized crimes, etc. Why would he need such a body to protect himself when he already controls the police and armed forces? It doesn't make sense! Again, it wasn't ''most'' Russians that think ill of Putin or blame the current woes on him. Certainly, the economy isn't faring well at the moment, but so too with Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Brazil, Angola, Ecuador, Nigeria, etc; nations whose economy mostly relies on oil to thrive. It is a general phenomenon as induced by the crash in global oil price. Most Russians knows this to be true, and that's why more than 75% of the populace still rally behind him in Russia. The sanctions have little to do with it, and whether they are qenewed to 2020 or ends in July, it would make little or no difference if the main determinant - oil prices - remain low or increases. Thats a fact! |
Re: The Dramatic Moment Russian Fighter Jets 'buzzed' A US Navy Warship by Missy89(f): 8:25pm On Apr 14, 2016 |
Appleyard: Obviously, you never read the bill he sent to his duma. When you do, come back and discuss it. Most of the countries you mentioned have better projections this year. A new world bank report even mentioned that if the oil prices were to go up today, the outlook is not that good. You should go read that too. Finally, The same poll that gave him 75% approval rating also said 60% of Russians DO NOT like the direction their country is heading. 2 Likes |

Missy89:Believe me: If oil prices goes up right now, nothing would stop a positive turn in the economics of the aforesaid nations. And that too is a fact. On the National Guard bill contents, post its details here, then bring in that of Homeland security, that of France after Paris attacks, etc, and lets do some comparisons. It is trite that when a nation is facing critical times, measures are put in place to address such situations. We all know how far Russia has suffered in the hands of terrorism, and the dangers it pose to it presently. Saying that Putin is creating such a body to defend himself, is totally unfounded. The Russian government have been mulling the creation of such body since 2008, following wave after waved of terror attacks. Well, lets keep our fingers cross and watch the future. Finally, if a poll states that 75% are still solidly behind their leader, i wonder where the same poll got the other 60 percent from. And come to think of it; they didnt say Putin was the cause. Did they? |

Missy89: Which means?? Answer below: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Although they are worried about the economy but they are solidly behind him nonetheless. In other words for example, you could say Obama has an approval rating of 70% amongst blacks but 80% do not approve of his LGBT views... Russians will weather the storm and hunker down for as long as it takes. It is the nature of the Russians from time memorial - an attack on one is an attack on all... Why does any sliver of news outta Russia that is remotely unpalatable to the Kremlin, blown out of proportion, plastered on the front pages and widely celebrated as sign of an imminent collapse of the "Russian regime"? In the meantime, please name ONE western leader that has an approval rating of "75%"? |
Re: The Dramatic Moment Russian Fighter Jets 'buzzed' A US Navy Warship by Missy89(f): 10:18pm On Apr 14, 2016 |
Appleyard: There is an agency in Russia fighting terrorism already called the FSB. Huge difference between the bill and agencies like homeland and the rest you mentioned. Like i said, go read the bill. By the way, you seem to be confused about how military command and control works. Being and head of state doesn't give you direct control of the military (The military is loyal to the state not the president except for maybe China). Besides, Russia's military is usually very neutral in domestic affairs. The NG (headed by Putin's personal bodyguard) enjoys maximum protection from such hesitation and reports directly to him. ( if it was about fighting terrorism, they should be reporting to the FSB that is fighting terrorism dont you think?) Your final question sounds like a joke. If Nigerians think Nigeria is going in the wrong direction, are they going to blame Buhari or the Illuminati? 2 Likes |

Missy89:Stop making much ado about nothing! The fact that the FSB have been fighting terrorism does not in anyway entails that other bodies can not be creatf to meet new challenges. The FSB has since been around, while the government was mulling the creation of this same body wayback since 2008. Was the government oblivious of its role b4 now? I don't think so. I find it very funny that some of you have already drawn up conclusions regarding this bill vis Putin's interest. You guys are mistaking the mental capacity and socio-political orientation of the average Russian citizens with that of the typical clueless westerners. These are people with an umatched will of survival, even in the darkest moments, such as in the 1998 economic crises. People who witnessed a coup in their own backyard, and sanctions placed on their nation for responding to the crisis. Then they saw how their people got murdered over the air in Egypt, and when their government responded massively in Syria, one need to be reminded of the standing ovasion it recieves from the same people in question. Yes. Russians like Nigerians, Angolas, Venezuelas, etc, aren't happy about the current nature of things, which is understandable, but if you are expecting them to take to the streets against Putin, then i must say you would have to wait till fowl grows teeth. It simply won't happen. It didnt happen when sanctions were biting harder, let alone now that its losing its teeth as the Russian economy continue to adapt to the prevailing conditions, with most Russians absolving the government of any blame, while mostly blaming the west and current oil.prices, for being the root causes. It is only a dreamer who would be expecting Russians to rise against the current government. I only cited the armed forces as an example. All military and policing bodies reports to whom? So the police, mobile riot units, FSB and the rest, are not enough to ''defend'' him, and that's why he created a new NG to defend himself, abi? If you have said that Putin aims to take down certain elements like 'fifth columnist' or some damn islamic so and so, etc, then we can talk. But saying he is defending himself against the same people that hold him so high, especially since the Syrian debacle, is simply out of point. You are reading it from a western point of view, but unfortunately, the average Russian perception is totally different. That's why they don't even see him and his government as the problem. One need consider his approval rating for March. So, i wonder why he should be ''defending'' himself against who? Hilary or Erdogan? 3 Likes 2 Shares |

I am one American who believes in America for Americans. I have seen the horror of wars through my two nephews who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan and would not wish for that on any family. I strongly believe in America defending her territorial dignity. About Trump beating Hillary, you must be joking. I am praying to high heavens that Trump wins the Republicon nomination so that he can bring the whole Senate and the House of Representative down to the Democratic column. It will be a landslide for Hillary . Our next Presidente is Mrs Hillary Rodham Clinton. Quote me on that on Jan 20, 2017 when she will be sworn in as Presidente. 1 Like |
