Pls report to ur rea inspector or zonal inspector asap. It is not too late to be reposted. It is stated on ur posting letter dat youthe corps members should be treated like a normal staff, and dt ur cds day shud be left free for u.

Stop suffering in silence. I just completed my own service so I know what u are passing tru and I know u shudnt be passing tru it.

what i want to say is did you read your POSTING LETTER? was it not written in your posting letter that you are not to report to work on your CDS days?
even if it wasn't written, where you not told?
my dear on your CDS day, don't go to work let them do their worst...
its not as if you are entitled to so many benefit that others aren't receiving...
if them no gree, write to NYSC thru your LGI, or better still talk to your ZI

What is the worst thing that can happen if I raise my concerns? (e.g.I get fired)

What is the best thing that can happen if I don't raise my concerns? (e.g I endure the current situation for 8 months more).

What is the worst thing that can happen if I don't raise my concerns? ( e.g they take it as a cue to bring more crazy rules and eventually I suffer a breakdown).


Answer the questions truthfully based on your situation. Answers will be different for each individual.

That may work for you. It works for me in most (if not all) situations.

If you read the story of the OP very well, you will observe he is lying , reasons being that
1. He has refused to mention the name of the private software company in Lagos so we can independently investigate into the matter. After all when he mentions their name, they won't kill him cos they don't know him.
2. As a Corp member, you are a federal government worker and u're not allowed to work more than 8hrs a day in ur place of service except there is an agreement between you and your employers for additional incentives for the extra hours you are working.
3. Even if this private company like he claims may have paid money to some nysc staffs for Corp members to be posted to them, the same nysc we all know fights for the welfare of their Corp members and as such would not allow them to be treated as slaves. So if he is saying the truth, let him write a complaint letter to his LI, if his LI don't act on it, then he should write to his ZI till it gets to the state level.
After all, no be employ them employ am so him no go say him go loose him job.

Let the op defend himself if he's telling us the truth.

The same issue happening at M̶̲̥̅♈ ppa here. one private company at sango... Just tak the case up by reporting to your local govt ZI and in alternative look for another ppa...

This is why there was some controversy about businesses engaging corners some years back.

You cannot eat your cake and have it. You want an employer who is not bothered when at multiple absences, then you need to serve in a public school or Lga.

To any business driven employer, absences mean you cannot be relied upon

I am sure you are looking at future employment in that place. So stop forming all this I am FG pikin and Manage the situation. If however you have no intention of continuing there you can make all the noise you want.

Broda. I don't think u've gone tru nysc before. If u ve, then you do not know what ur rights re as an individual. If u attend one cds in Onitsh North Local govt for instance, u will go straight to bed from there. That kinda company, I'm sure will not cre for u when you breakdown as a result of the workload.
What u will not accept as a rich man, don't accept even when u're still struggling.

there is nothing childish about. it is you knowing your right. your are calling it office rules? this was one of the things Nigerians endure and other rubbish that developed countries that know their rights don't do. like working late and the boss will be claiming it is the right thing to do (those ones collect pay for extra work) not here that the boss threatened with your job and you start shaking. it is wrong and the earlier you know your right the faster it will put in check all nonsense rules and aid our country development. work rules kor, work ofin ni?
if you know your rights, everything will work smoothly

i know someone that his boss sacked cos he refuse leading force men to go fight the community where their community is situated (cos he has friend in that community).
he was sacked and he took the company to court. now the company is paying him 40million naira. know your rights and stop enslaving yourselves

8 - 6 is no big deal. It is the attitude you create for yourself. I work in a multinational. Official hours is 8 am to 5 pm but I come in before 7 am most days and stay well beyond 5 pm. I am not forced, I am not trying to impress, I am not threatened and I am not on entry level role.

8am to 6pm is a big deal..official work hours for a day is supposed to be 8hrs minus break..

Guy I nearly suffer same fate as yours when I served with a civil engineering consulting firm in kaduna. By the time I finish with the CEO he fear me pass His God. Do anything that pleases you. Spend ur normal 8hours at work by 4pm carry your load leave the place. NOTE. Don't report them to NYSC let them go there to report you first. When they summon you tell them everything you aint pleased with going on in the firm. If nothing is done report to state cordinator n if nothing is done tweet DG. M sure my CEO remember me today.

Haha.. even when i was working in a media firm, it was 9-5pm with 1hr of break..that 1hour is really much considering other factors that make employees feel like they are being enslaved. People who go to work and stay there exceeding their stipulated hours are being paid much more to overlook the time or are just too in love with their jobs. People have their lives to live too. In the workplace, the very little things count.

for me ,endurance is the watch word,from experience most corpers posted to a firm tends not to be serious and lazy,Perhaps ,that was the reason why the rules were introduced. Am sure the pay must be something good for them to have the guts to enforce the rules.

If i be ur cds supervisor and i check cds meeting no see u there, i go extend ur service year to 2. U better go report to ur L.I or Z.I before dem turn u modern slave.

All this people talking about normal work routine, do you really know what NYSC is all about? One of the the purpose of NYSC scheme is to give back to the community where you were posted and this is usually done on CDS days, it is meant to be a work-free day.
Very few of these private companies retain corps members. They just use them, subject them to slavery and dump them. Ask the batch A corps members that have gone back to their respective homes. Only very few out of thousands got retained. Op was not very clear in his complain. And as a corps member, he knows he should report to his CDS officer or ZI, discuss with them except maybe he is in it for undisclosed reasons.

I suffered the same thing while in service to the extent that I was not allowed to travel home throughout. Unknowingly, God was preparing me ahead for the future by allowing such to serve as a training ground for me.

I worked in VI, Lagos today: it is interesting to note that I leave office the same time I always left during my NYSC. Life is full of lesions: embrace it while it last.

Op relax, it's only temporary, 4months gone already. Before you know it it's all over. BTW I know say you runs your way to Lagos then to that same company because of the awoof ex corper bombarded your head with. You should have followed the normal procedures and maybe you could have been in one government office somewhere in enugu enjoying. I remember my Nysc days ,Okposi dev centre. We just Dey go ppa go Dey gist.

Lagos corpers are used for cheap labour, Akwa Ibom is the best place to serve with a sense of duty. The state coordinator Lady Ngozika Chukwuka sees all corp members as her child and we call her our own mother, she fights against this kind of maltreatment and no employer in Akwa Ibom does this to corp members in fact they treat us like the "untouchable Government pikin"
I cherish my duty as an Ibom Corper in ikono Local Government because I have the opportunity to impart on the students in this part and it gives me a sense of responsibility.
Finally gallant corp member, you are not serving; you're being used as a cheap labour though it will sharpen your view and prepare you for the task ahead after service but you don't have to die in silence.
