Hello mommies, pls help me o, my 11 months baby still wakes at night to suck BM, when she wakes she won't stop crying till she sucks. What do I do to stop her as I intend to wean her soon? Any ideas from experienced moms?

Mama dat wrote about her LO still d same birth weight @ 6wks. If u hv tried ur best and ur LO is still not adding weight pls introduce formula. But don't stop breastfeeding outrightly. The 2 can compliment each other.

Mrsnimat please don't be so hard on yourself, you are doing just fine but please introduce formula, increase your fluid intake and keep putting baby to breast! Hopeful soon your milk will flow better to meet your babies needs, good luck.

Dont be too hard on yourself. All babies feed at different rates... some are champion speed suckers while some just like to snuggle and take their time - think of it this way - you and your friends or siblings dont all eat at the same speed do you?

As she isn't putting on weight there is clearly an issue: either with you or the baby.

I would suggest getting a breast pump and some bottles. This will give you an idea of how much you are producing. And also an idea of how much your baby is taking.

[In the early days i thought my Lo wasnt feeding well, until i fed her her first bottle and low and behold she downed 125ml in the time it took her dad climb up a flight of stairs and cried for more ]

Make sure you drink loads of water especially during breast feeding and pumping and try not to be too stressed about it as that can affect your production. ( i.e have a full bottle with you) You may find out that you may not need any supplement to boost production.

For all the family members blaming you. Put them to work and give them the bottles to feed the baby while you have a rest and use the time to express some more. ( as it can be very hard trying to feed the baby with a bottle yourself and trying to find time to express as well. )

Also Check to see your baby is latching on properly, and also rule out any tongue tie issues, if you have inverted nipples or the like which can affect feeding.


As other mamas have said, you could also introduce formula as a back up but try not to overfeed her as you may try to over-compensate for the lack of weight. Remember she is only 6 weeks and if she hasnt been feeding well, her stomach is still small. Just let her feed at her own pace. Small feeds every 2 to 3 hrs during the day.

Try to read back a few pages dear, tips for weaning have been shared by different moms . However you can start giving her heavier or thicker cereals late at night and then start offering her water when she wakes up at night. She will certainly cry a bit and eventually adjust.

Since she is just transitioning, take it easy on the 'big food' lik amala and the likes. Wat I did with my son was get Heinz creamy porridge, cerelac rice and milk, cerelac wheat and milk and one more variety. I don't feed anyone more than once a day. Also add milk to make it sweet. Start with small qty lik 2 spoons of cereal to one spoon of milk. Make it really light but sweet. After each feed, I give breastmilk to as dessert...lol. I'm sure she will like it. She's not eating cos probably she can't feel the sweetness of the food. Also sing songs while feeding. I sing 'some of food bt can not eat, my baby has food and my baby can eat bla bla bla till he finishes the food. So once I start d song, he knows it's time to eat...lol. pls don't stop breastfeeding. Also I'm not always in a hurry to give babies adult food cos I feel dey av all dia lives to eat those. But a short time for baby foods, so I concentrate on cereals for him.

First of all, relax mama. Let me share my experience. My baby weighed 3.8 at birth, 6.8 wt 6 weeks and i was so happy. Suddenly baby D just stopped eating including breastmilk o. He stopped sucking at 6 months. There was no cereal i disnt try, tom brown, ordinary pap, adult food, food and fruit purees, he just wont take it. He may go for 9 hours without food. The only thing he takes is water. I cant count the number of times i v complained here, ask the pediatricians, every available platform. I tried abidec, welkid went as far as bco and guess what, non worked. So i gave up and turned prayer warrior and mind you he was having episodes of diarhoea o without feeding. I let him be cos i was exhausted. As long as he is strong and meeting his milestones. He was growing faster than his mates sef. That was the peace i had. Guess what, when i stopped worrying that was when baby D started eating. Now he can eat for africa and he is 10 months. I force him to eat twice a day before and now he eats not less than 5 times a day, wakes up twice at night to eat. He just started eating every and anything, adult food, snacks, cereals just anything. Moral lesson of my epistle ma is that relax, sometimes children can make u fee like you dont know what you are doing, as long as you are doing your best, leave the rest. Dont give up but dont beat yourself up. My baby started eating well at 10months.your baby will be fine you hear. Have a great day y'all

Hi,

In adults when poo is blackish it is usually as a results of iron supplements or perhaps some bleeding in the digestive system.

Not sure what will cause it in babies, It may just be iron as most of the baby cereals are isually fortified with iron anyway.

Please take him to a paediatrician to rule out anything sinister. You can insist on having a poo sample analysed so that you can put your mind at ease.

Does she take tea? Try introducing her to it so you can replace the night BM with tea. It wasnt easy when i started that way, there were nights my daughter would scream when she tastes the tea but after a week she adjusted well.

Motherhood!!! Things mamas do for their children (you turned prayer warrior). Brings to mind how my mum used to spend nights on her knees interceding for me, thank God for her cos those prayers shaped my life. If it weren't for her prayers i'd have been on the street hawking my body. To d mamas inbthe house. Pls i need your help o. My daughter and boil seems to be 5 and 6. I am soooo tired of this. At first every boil we see we take her to the hospital. All they gave us was paracetamol, multivitamines and antibiotics in which we add water before given her. Was advice to stop antibiotics anytine we see boil that too much of it is not good. Now my questionis how do we fight these boils and they come in 2s, 3s even 4 all together in diff places(head and sometimes forehead)

Secondly my beautiful daughter no dey eat! Chai. Used well kid, and asemin or so. What do i do.? This attitude of her not eatin well deny her of good weight. Wah do u recomend. Pls mention me, quote me. Tank u in advance.

The greenish black poo may be as a result of change in his food. I also started feeding my DD on cereals one week ago and she's been pooing often unlike when she was EBF. I also noticed that when I gave her Heinz fruit and yoghurt porridge, her poo turned black instantly and she pooped up to 4tyms dat day. So you may want to introduce the food one after the other to be able to know which of the food makes him poo the black poo.

However some food commonly offered to babies of that age include potatoes-Irish and sweet, amala and ewedu with Titus fish, very soft yam, indomie with little or no spice etc etc
