To build or not to build, that is the question. I am at this junction now where I am trying to decide if I should develop my 'Bush' land or buy another land close to my present accommodation, I just don't know which road to take and I have started spending carelessly.

if I were in your shoes I would buy another one and then later build on either if them then wait for one of the lands to appreciate in value(depends on the area though) sell it off in years to come and use it to build on the other land.

I bought a land and laid my foundation at 23, im almost 24 now and the house is almost complete...it's all down to personal preference and funds...I learned to do things on my own from a very early age.

I'll explain:
My former residence used to enjoy about 20 hr light.
my alternative business/shop was on the next street
with little tfare i could get to any part of Lagos
I could decide to go home at any time no matter how late and I'll get there
now:
reverse all the advatages listed above and
add the activities of jobless old witches in the community who monitor your evry move.
but right now wey things tight, I no Know wether na my relocation cause am or .....

In my opinion. 30 is not too early to own your home especially if you started working im your mid 20s, it's all about planning. If you have a good financial plan from the start of your career, you can set goals and meet them. 5 years into your career, you should be able to wave landlord troubles good bye if you have been planning from the start, setting financial goals per year. There are financial institutions that offer personal financial planning advice, I use ARM and they are pretty good. Owning your home will be possible if you have a good plan.

This line of thought is what a lot of people are ignorant of.

I'll prefer to live in a flat on the Island than to own a Duplex in a place like Ikorodu. FYI, the road between Bourdillon road and Gerrard Road both in Ikoyi is 2 lanes on each side. The road between Ketu to Ikorodu is also 2 lanes on each side, This is irrespective of the fact that the population in Ikorodu is about 1000 times the number of those in Ikoyi. If you seek affordable options, there are many estates after Ajah on the way to the new Lekki FTZ where the government is building 12-lane highways.

People don't understand that it's not only about building a house, the environment matters. There is no point hurrying to build in a slum when you can wait, save, strategize and make proper real estate investments. It's not how far but how well.

Way back the lekki u mentioned above were covered with bushes. If u think Ikorodu is a bush, just wait till we finish buying all the lands here, No matter the area, it isn't a waste. If u won't live in it, build and put it for rent. Land here will soon be sold out. Time flies!!

And say for example, you stay in apartment of about 240k per year (say 20k per month)
You should save 20k per month as mortgage.

If you cant save 20k per month for your future apartment, you should not give your landlord 20k per month.

This not only prepares you for your future house but can sustain you with accommodation should you lose your job.

Thats still what we are saying. The perspective with which you're talking from is based on how financially capable you are. You cant buy a land with N100 anywhere. Financial capability is key.

While I agree, I think it has more to do with the will, if not, you'll chicken out when the going gets tough. You get broke and in debt sometimes and it may be frustrating

You can start plan building ur house as soon as u av enough cash. I bought land at d age of 30, got married at 32 and jst moved 2 my house few days ago at 34.
