Even with an 'ineffectual baboon ' as president, we never suffered such a protracted fuel crisis as we are seeing. At least he was effective in ending scarcity. This administration is totally clueless and cannot seem to figure out how to tackle this issue. DPR issues threats and their staff go behind and take kickback from station owners. Fact is tankers are being diverted to those areas where they can brazenly sell at 180-200 naira per litre...those that are not diverting sell at the dead of night to black marketers else tell me how those countless people standing on the road selling in jerry cans get their fuel...unless of course they have their own import license. That's all 3 Likes |

bender79:what were the lies they told you? Did they promise you 5k and change mouth later? Did they promise you fuel scarcity will end soon and then CHANGE mouth later? Or Did they tell you they signed fictitious deals with China? Besides the past government is gone, that's not our problem presently. Our problems are with the present government! I thought they were here to solve the issues in the past government but of course that is a lie also. 1 Like |

5starmilitant: What Diezani did was to massively import using the high amounts of forex we had during her time in office. She did not build any new refineries, neither did she improve the capacity of our existing ones. If she was still in charge, the same problem we have now would still be there....because of lack of forex. Diezani also left a massive debt for marketers (unpaid subsidy claims) which is part of the reason why we are here. And she and her government were not courageous enough to completely remove fuel subsidy. 1 Like |
Re: Fuel Scarcity: Nigerians Are Being Deceived – Marketers Reveal by Nobody: 3:52pm On Apr 22, 2016 |
SLIDEwaxie: What is happening is that most marketers cannot make enough money under subsidy to make a profit...and get enough forex to import refined fuel.(Recall that due to forex restrictions, the marketers can only get fuel at parallel rates, not at official rates). So they ignore the DPR....increase prices, and as a result, they have enough forex to import fuel.....and to make a profit. Government needs to face reality and deregulate. Sure....fuel would go up to N200 per liter...but at the end of the day....there won't be scarcity.marketers would have enough naira to buy dollars at parallel market rates....and we can use the saved money from removing subsidy to (ideally !) build new refineries. |
Re: Fuel Scarcity: Nigerians Are Being Deceived – Marketers Reveal by Nobody: 3:57pm On Apr 22, 2016 |
Stylz69: The previous admin benefited from high prices...which meant that they could give out enough forex to import fuel excessively. Meanwhile...they promised three new refineries in 2010, signed an MOU with an American company, then nothing happened. By 2013...the project was gone with the wind. This admin on the other hand has low oil prices, cannot afford to release forex to import (unlike the previous admin....which had prices averaging at $100 per barrel)...because releasing forex could lead to disastrous consequences for the naira...and inflation....and also has to clear the massive debts in subsidy claims that the last admin did not pay up. In other words...we are seeing the cracks that the last admin papered over. Am sure you would mock me for defending Buhari....but in reality, if those three refineries GEJ had promised had come on stream....we would not have been in this mess. 2 Likes |

Re: Fuel Scarcity: Nigerians Are Being Deceived – Marketers Reveal by Nobody: 4:22pm On Apr 22, 2016 |
ifeanyi83: There is a immediate solution....deregulation....but the fact is...that would lead to angry protests on the streets. Solution B is five new refineries....but that takes time. Deregulation doesn't. |

DPR is an embodiment of corruption. The Department colludes with independent marketers to rip Nigerians off at this period of fuel scarcity. To them, this situation should not abate. Officials of DPR, in the guise of enforcing price regulation, visits filling stations across the country for this purpose, but leaves such filling stations immediately they are settled. Once they leave, the filling stations adjust their metres back to the old, prohibitive selling price. Where then is the enforcement? Even when such stations are purportedly sealed, they are unsealed a day or two later after their owners have settled officials of DPR. And the cycle of corruption continues! |
