MY EXPERIENCE AT THE 60TH REGULAR COURSE NDA KADUNA 2008

Good evening my fellow nairalanders in the house. I'm happy to be part of this group and thought it wise to share my little experience I had
In 2008 at NDA Kaduna because the process at the board interview is quite similar. I stand to be corrected also your polite contributions would be appreciated.

As a young teenage boy in 2008 is applied to the Nigeria Defence Academy to study biological science. I applied to study BS because I was scared of NDA mathematics question from the past questions I saw.

I so much desire to become a part of the arm forces at that age because of my military background.. (My dad is a soldier). Against my mother's wise I applied and wrote the 2008 NDA exam at ibadan (Odogbo barracks precisely).

Despite the population that came for the exam, about 90% of the applicant were already in higher institution. I was just a secondary school leaver (2007). But I was very optimistic before and after the exam. Although the exam was indeed to my favour as I finished within 90 minutes an exam scheduled for 3hours.
To God be the Glory I came out 2nd from Delta state from sciences as published on punch newspaper. 40 candidates were shortlisted from each state except FCT were about 30 were shortlisted. The first 18 state (alphabetically i.e abia, adamawa)were invited for the board interview scheduled to hold 4th April -17th April 2008.

Hmmmm! I was so excited I made the exam. I have a challenge on signing my attestation letter because I was depending on my uncle who was a young army officer at that time to take me to a prominent retired general in delta state because he was a product of dssc and this army general helped through. But I was disappointed because things went the other way round so I decided to take it to my LGA chairman to sign. That was my greatest undoing to depend on my uncle and not GOD...

I got to Kaduna on the 3rd day of April and we were all ushered into our hostels. I saw guys that were even close to their late Thirty's that were claiming 22 yes which was the age limit and I was only 17 then. I encouraged myself because I was the youngest and smallest in stature. But my colleagues from delta and Edo state all liked me because I was popular and jovial.

NOTE: There is Godfatherism but it has limit.

Our first screening was screening of credntials and documents at the popular hall called Drill shield. This is where we assembled every morning. It was indeed a lovely experience. Those person that has age mismatch, name issues and some other problem were sent home..this stage took 3 days...thank God I scaled through.

At every stage each candidate were giving a chest number..no name were called..they know you by your chest number.so before the commencement of the next stage a new chest number was given to each candidate in order to limit the godfather's thing.

The next stage was medicals...hmmmm! This is the most crucial stage. This is when you know who is who among yourself...different phone calls from candidates... Poor small me that has no one to call I was just saying I must scale through.
The medicals were on :
Height, blood, urine, teeth, eye test, and xray which was conducted at 44 army barracks in Kaduna.
The following day our results was announced and so many persons were evicted but I scaled through. We became 22 in delta state which was the highest number in the whole state..Edo was 20 and IMO were 11 left...everybody wished to have hailed from IMO state because their chances would have been high but delta guys were just too gallant...lol

Continued....

The next day we went out for the 3.5km race.
Note: medicals was necessary because if your not fit you can't run.

We all came out at about 6:15am and they addresses us and the race began at 6:30am 3.5km in 18mins. I was the youngest and smallest in stature but I came 8th out of the 22 of us that ran that race....everyone in delta made it inside the gate. There were some candidates from other state that were sent home because the gate was already shut after the 18mins. There was this guy from Edo state he has a strong Godfather but he could not run but sir and ma his Godfather couldn't save him at this stage. He was sent home.

I was very happy and still pressing on but still thinking about our population in delta state. At this stage no more eviction. We continue the struggle and the next stage was assessment stage. We wrote a test, the test was even more than the exam that qualify us for the interview. We did series of quantitative, verbal, and numerical reasoning test and we also wrote an essay titled: my childhood.

After which we went for logical reasoning assessment which is sound modelling. They brought out some art work, graphics illustrating various life scenarios and asked if you were in such situation what would you have done.
Example: you about alighting from a lorry and close to you is a house on fire, beside the house there is a fire alarm,a borehole ,a telephone and a
Bulldozer.... And there is a baby in the house what will you do....all this are illustrated in art work and graphics to you...2 army officers a major and a captain assessed me on this.

After this stage we went for the final stage which happened to be the BOARD INTERVIEW chaired by an Airforce officer Air vice Marsha Lex..they gave us a day off to rest and prepare for the oral interview.

I was the 5th person from my state that went in for the interview. I went in with my credentials.. It was a 13 man committee with the chairman seated in the middle and a royal king chair was in front of him(those kind of igwe chair we see at Bollywood) that was were I'm meant to sit.

I boldly entered and they all smiled at me as I greeted Good morning sir. He welcomed me and asked me to seat down which I did and he said you can ask him questions. The questions started flying like bokoharam bombs from left and right. But I was a bit intelligent then as I correctly answered all their questions which I was commended and the chairman said congratulation for making it through to this stage we will get back to you.I left Kaduna for Ilorin and we waited for more than 80 days before the final list came out but fortunately for me my name was not on the list not even in the reserve list.

But my greatest undoing sir and ma was I was TIMID when answering the questions. I was not bold in my speech. Boldness was what they were looking at nothing more.
Also I knew I did not performed well during the assessment because I was not prepared. I never knew there is still more to do.

So please work on yourself, practice the race very well, and I forgot we also did obstacle..rope climbing about 150m high, fence climbing, crawling under the bab wire, fence climbing, long and high jump.
Please practice very well.

If you have a Godfather is a good one and if do not have please pray to God for favour and grace to overcome every stage successfully and the skill is your limit.people will always say that people who were not in the interview made it through to the final list...I tell you don't be deceived those are all propaganda. Everyone shortlisted on the finalist were all physically present during the interview.

But thank God after the disappointment from NDA I encouraged myself and traveled to benin city to write my PUTME exam in GREAT UNIBEN.
Thank God I was offered admission that same 2008 to study production Engineering and in 2014 I gloriously graduated with a second class upper degree. Thanks be to God.

Note: During our interview we made friends for the moment and I made a friend not just for the moment but for life...The friend I made was from delta state who became successful into NDA and today he's a sub lieutenant in the Nigeria Navy..our friendship was built under 14days. He has visited me 3 times after he passed out from NDA.

Please those that will make it through to Kaduna make friends and keep contacts. Your friend might be of help to you later in life...

Thank you for reading.

See you at the top.

FROM GLORY TO GLORY...THAT'S WERE WE ALL ARE GOING

ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION it is dishearten that some people are using this thread to discorage our galant female asparant from applying in the on going ssc, i dont no the reason behind it, some even claim that they are in the last 2014 ssc recruitment and they are giving false information people like sosulz, i was in kaduna NDA in the last 2014 ssc final interview, three females only were invited and were all droped on medicals ground because they all did not meet the required height as stated in the advert, this is what they told me after they were all droped because i had a chat wit them, and as a mater of fact 2 females that make it to interview in 2013 were all sucessful which i saw them in the camp, advice nigeria army give special consideration to female provided they make it to final selection board because they are always few.
ohh
.Thanks..I'm going to the cafe in d barracks to apply today...I've given up before..because I don't want to stress signing all those forms when at d end I wud be disqualified because I'm a girl...

WAEC cert is collected from your school or if it is GCE you apply for it from the WAEC office in the state you sat for it. The one printed from their site is just a print out, it is not even a statement of result.
