Well, the splitting is done automatically so to speak.

The best way i can describe it is like having T-branch pipe with flows from the bottom to the left and right and from the left to the right.




In the T-branch pipe above, lets say your inverter is requesting current on the branch on the right (right upper part of the T), your batteries are sending in current from the branch on the left(left upper part of the T) and your solar panels are sending in current from the branch at the bottom (tail of the T).

Now, when the solar current (like water) comes in from the branch at the bottom, it's tendency is to flow into the battery branch on the left to charge the batteries.

Now once you load your inverter, the inverter makes a request for current from the battery, but since current is already flowing in from the solar panel at the bottom branch, the inverter makes use of this current flowing in from the bottom with whatever additional current from the left branch (battery) that it needs to complete it's current request.

So if your inverter on the right side requests for 10amps and your solar is already flowing in 2 amps from the bottom pipe into the inverter, your batteries would need to flow the remaining 8amps into the right side. The so called switching is based on the need of the inverter. If the inverter needs current, it will take it first from solar panels then the rest from the battery.

obviously this is an over simplification.

I use it for washing machine but not my freezer even though it can. It can actually power if for like 15hrs only freezer but d freezer is usually very cold for like 2 days without power...just make sure input like one bag of pure water to preserve d coldness. Fridge usually get hot so u can power a medium sized fridge.

In a month I normally use fuel worth N8000 to power my generator anytime there's power outage but since I bought my inverter more than a year ago, I spend averagely N500 per month. Yes..N500 averagely as I could go for 3months sometimes without putting on my gen. This backup system has been very helpful especially now that there is poor mains supply and fuel scarcity with exorbitant price. Those of you complaining of excessing estimated bill, you can get value for the bills you pay if you have a backup system since you'll massively utilize the mains when it is available provided you can have light at least once in two days.
Below is my 1.5kva sine wave inverter and 4batteries system.
Show us pics of your backup system and tell us how much you save from this arrangement per month.

Bro who are you deceiving or planning to deceive?...I own an inverter too and its useless if light or gen is unavailable to charge it ,and besides this your inverter doesn't look powerful enough to power a house with basic electrical appliances besides the fan on,Get your facts right and be truthful..

Hmmmm. This is a very useful post. You just pointed out something I didn't avert my mind to. The length or peeiod of usage. For someone living in a mini flat who goes out to work very early on weekdays and comes back home very late at night, a 2.5kva inverter seems like overkill especially since it would only be used majorly during the weekends.
Solar is definitely out of it, both cost wise and practicability too. Maybe a 1.5Kva would do the magic. But again, how does a layman do

I guess this should be a must use for a mini home. So on the total you have a 625w total load. In this case a 1000w inverter system is suitable here, with about 300w extra to serve as tolerance. Its advisable to create some reasonable amount of tolerance to enable the system breathe well to avoid breakdown since the inverter doesn't work like the generator that accommodates excess load and still with stands it. But what ever be the case you must allow at least about 50w untouched as the system tolerance point.

Those slim deep cycle lead acid or akiline batteries from Sun corporation. Those Martine type batteries and some flooded high AH batteries. I have read some low voltage and high AH that can stay for 20years however not common. Lithium ion also last long but expensive.

The have their dealership office in either Oga or Ikeja..bought from them but I googled d address and use navigation to locate. U can Google and even get their contact online...they are Indians. Better to buy from d original source as it is cheaper with valid warranty.

Solar panels are now. Cheap such that electricity bills for 2 years can pay the cost of installation... the rest is profit

I will suggest you first take a comprehensive load analysis with your critical load point in view, after which the inverter sizing is determined. Secondly, you also know how long you intend to use the system and at what time per day. Thirdly, you find out how often you get the national grid power supply per day to determine your battery how your battery is charged. This is where the option of including a solar PV comes in. Cos if you have 5-6 hours of national grid supply per day you may not need a solar PV, that will be a waste of resources. This also depends on your power consumption, I mean the loads running at the same time, power management while using this system is one thing that must be considered. Solar powered inverter system is designed by the individuals requirements. You only regret when a careful study is not done before starting the project...

That mercury inverter is good but has poor charging that will ruin your batteries in 6 months. Do not mislead people with substandard inverter cos of cost that they'll surely regret and I know cos I have used that mercury inverter and I still have it somewhere in my house. Had to buy this mopower when my batteries start discharging too quickly and my batteries were restored

the lies these inverter hustlers tell . .

1) you require power to charge the inverter - at least 16 hours for 8 hours supply.

the inverter is a supplement to power supply. it is NOT a replacement

2) the batteries will last at most 2 years. and that is not guaranteed since there seems to be a repackaged battery racket, or maybe its just the usual low quality for the nigerian market

3) 90% of the inverters sold are piece-of-sheet that fail in under 6 months. after this the looong story with the seller starts.

my advice is to go for a mercury 2.5kva inverter, (modified sine wave) direct from coscharis - it is 22-25K . it is RUGGED. nepa fluctuation, overload, all of that, it will work with those. DO NOT BUY THE PURE SINE WAVE inverter.
batteries [coscharis] are 50k

all these sukam , mopower , luminous etc are overpriced

due to bad advice, i bought luminous batteries December last year at 56k . imagine how pissed i was when i went to coscharis and found their batteries were 48k [at the time] .

a 2.5kva inverter does not need more than 2 12v batteries [preferably 200ah]

you wont even need a rack. just put the batteries on the foam packaging, put the inverter on the batteries and you're good to go. you can opt for rewiring, but you need a COMPETENT ELECTRICIAN if you want to go that route.

a lot of the inverter sellers will cut corners and install the cheapest wiring you can find. i know because i recommended one to a friend some years back. i was so ashamed when i went visiting and saw the rubbish job the guy had done. cables looking as if they would catch fire any minute.

anyway, like i said, go to coscharis VI. they also have a warehouse in computer village.

anyone who tells you you need less than 8 hours to fully charge standard inverter batteries is lying.

I don't have an inverter but planning to buy. I have a colleague who combined it with solar and he doesn't use mains supply. The solar panels supply his entire house. He has about 20 solar panels on his roof. That's what I'm saving for.

It's nice just that the initial cost is high but its cheaper at long run, I ve been using complete solar system for the passed three years am a dealer we supply, install and maintain any thing solar

Open your eyes....its 1.5kva! If 900Va i-better-pass-my-neigbour can power ur house apart from freezers and AC, how much more 1500VA. I stay in a place of at least 7hours of light each day so if you don't have this much light, get solar panels. Follow d thread n you'll see testimonies

You can get the one for 200W for about 50k however u need several.

I bought the batteries zenith 200AH x 4 @ 52k each. The inverter is 40k then, maybe 50k now cos of dollar grin. The rack was about 15k. It is good to install with a stabilizer for protection.I use 5KVA stabilizer although I have it before....all in all about N273k grin

How long have you been using it and how effective is it. Is the recharge done through solar panels alone? And what about cloudy and raining days? Thanks

I run a 247 service, and I tell you without the inverter. at least 12 employees will be out of jobs and I don't think I can take this crap of this country. I will probably have found my way out.

No light for days, and weeks... how do businesses survive? It's really crazy.


I buy fuel when the light goes critical. like no light for like 3 days... I thank God for them. Oh, also, I had to do a lightening protector, cos, one time last year, thunder struck it out... as I stay at the topmost place around...


But I don't do all this indian or chinko inverter crap. I tried them once, I knew it wasn't for me. From basic knowledge their charging amps are pretty low.... hence it can take them 4x to charge compared to standard inverters like xantrex, tripple lite or outback.

I bought a used outback inverter, in fact, I bought 2units... with 6 200AH batteries...

And it's like magic. We use it all day at work... all day... and it charges at night... or even for a couple of hours... our Gen dey gather dust.. steady...

What quota have you contribute to the development of Nigeria? Do you even pay tax? If you can't afford solar system why not avoid the thread than discouraging others? A typical Nigerian youth that waits for government for everything, youths that enjoys constituting nuisance than looking for solutions, probably tyou have nothing tangible to do with light, other than charging your phones and other pleasures that contribute nothing to the society, alternative power supply is never a bad option and some gullible readers were to give you likes, was expecting you would bring up another alternative but was surprised to see a typical and average, lazy Nigerian youth who are loud but empty. Though solar power isn't new but creating a positive awareness on it through these forum at these particular period when as a country we are experiencing epileptic power supply is a welcome idea.

You and I both know the whole solar panel ish is not so true,fine it works for some but the same time its rubbish for some...inverters no matter powerful need electricity either from Nepa or a gen to charge them plus the battery lifespan is also another issue to consider,I've had numerous battery issues,the latest was when one of them exploded,the inverter is good but lets stop painting it as an alternative to generators or Nepa outrightly

If d battery is charged periodically, it might last but it's charge all d time, it may wear out within 1year and 6month.the major thing is getting a good battery which is very very difficult. Extremely difficult
