Impairment charge for credit loss was 32% of Operating Income and more than 460% more than 2014. Then we have a Cost-to-income ratio of 61.4% (i.e. for every one naira generated, about 61.4 kobo was incurred). And most importantly, a Non Performing Loan of 18.1% (more than 600% increase over 2014). Not a good result. Too much exposure to certain high risk ventures.

Someone already paid the price. The Risk Manager was probably asked to leave.

Doesn't work that way.

The Risk Guy has taken the fall for it. I've not seen the result though but my guess will be that the exposure was to the Oil Sector. And we all know what recently happened to that sector since 2014. From reports too, First Bank has been the major lender to the Oil Industry most especially the Up Stream segment - funding exploration and production of both crude oil and gas.

Because the Q1 2016 has massaged the impact of the 2015 bad result

The result is very bad but the elephant was strong to overcome the impairment and still declared profit.
It will still fly based on good will and hopes for Q2.

The risk guy was not sacked but was retired and paid his entitlements for a shoddy job done. But there was an MD and a BOARD. So when you lend there should not be adequate measure in place for the recovery of the funds. The impairment of 120b is just a fraction of the credits going bad. We could be looking at over 400-500b
