The 15 Fastest Growing Economies In Africa 2016 — IMF by Nobody: 1:12pm On Apr 26, 2016 |
Having enjoyed blissful growth over the past decade, Nigeria was one of the fastest growing economies in the world, but it is not one of the 15 fastest growing economies in Africa for 2016. In 2014 and early 2015, Nigeria was named the third fastest growing economy in the world by CNNMoney, with China and Qatar, taking the lead at 7.3 percent, 7.1 percent gross domestic product (GDP) growth. Following the 2015 election uncertainty, crash in crude oil price, and prolonged revelation of policy direction by the newly-inaugurated Muhammadu Buhari-led government, Nigeria’s GDP for 2015 crashed to 2.8 percent. For 2016, however, the coast is cloudy, and Nigeria is nowhere near the fastest growing economies in Africa. According to the International Monetary Funds (IMF) World Economic Outlook for 2016, as revised in April, the fastest growing economy in Africa for 2016 is Cote d’Ivoire and the slowest is Chad, which is expected to record negative growth. Cote d’Ivoire is expected to experience an 8.5 percent rise in GDP, while Nigeria’s neighbour, Chad, would see a -0.4 percent growth. Africa’s Fastest Country Projected Growth Rank Cote d’Ivore 8.5% 1 Tanzania 6.9% 2 Senegal 6.6% 3 Djibouti 6.5% 4 Rwanda 6.3% 5 Kenya 6.3% 6 Mozambique 6.0% 7 CAR 5.7% 8 Sierra Leone 5.3% 9 Uganda 5.3% 10 Source: IMF Cote D’Ivoire (8.5%), Tanzania (6.9%), Senegal (6.6%), Djibouti (6.5%), Rwanda (6.3%), Kenya (6.0%), Mozambique (6.0%), Central African Republic (5.7%), Sierra Leone (5.3%) Uganda (5.3%). Madagascar, Zambia and Chad are expected to see a growth of 4.1 percent, 3.4 percent, 3.2 percent respectively. The fastest growing economies in Africa by GDP growth rate, as projected by IMF for 2016, are: Cote D’Ivoire (8.5%), Tanzania (6.9%), Senegal (6.6%), Djibouti (6.5%), Rwanda (6.3%), Kenya (6.0%), Mozambique (6.0%), Central African Republic (5.7%), Sierra Leone (5.3%) and Uganda (5.3%). DR Congo expects a GDP growth of 4.9 percent, Cameroon; 4.9 percent, Ethiopia; 4.5 percent, Ghana; 4.5 percent and Republic of Congo; 4.4 percent. Madagascar, Zambia and Chad are expected to see a growth of 4.1 percent, 3.4 percent, 3.2 percent respectively. Major oil exporters, Angola and Nigeria, hard hit by the slump in crude oil prices, are projected to see a growth 2.5 and 2.3 percent. At 2.3 percent, Nigeria is expected to see its poorest GDP growth since the return of Democracy in 1999. This development has become a point of concern for the IMF, and the World Economic Forum (WEF), which would be having its meeting on Africa later in May. “It is important to recognize the challenges that many African economies face – the commodities slump, currency devaluations and geo-security risks all threaten growth,” WEF explained. The Forum says its May meeting will highlight the need for diversification in order to ensure inclusive economic growth, tapping into the fourth industrial revolution’s potential to create new industries and help reduce inequality across the continent. The World Economic Forum on Africa 2016 will take place in Kigali, Rwanda from 11-13 May. https://www.thecable.ng/15-fastest-growing-economies-africa-nigeria-not-one?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C6920219177 2 Likes 1 Share

This list was compiled by IMF? Then it all makes sense. Suddenly our growth that has been projected to be among the fastest in the world is now no where near the fastest even in Africa? Maybe if we had accepted the so called IMF advice and loan, we'll be right at the top of their list. 68 Likes 3 Shares |

Juxtified:Nigerians have suddenly turned to repiners under Buhari's dispensation. See what Zombies have induced, Propagating clever lies to detract and discredit GEJ who was assiduous, proactive and working strenuously with the aid of God Almighty to transform Nigeria. But zombies brought a cessation to such auspicious administration and installed Buhari. 54 Likes 3 Shares |

blueto: I'm not against you engaging me on an intellectual level, whether you agree with my submissions or not, in fact I tend to enjoy those who counter my opinions intelligently, since it is often a learning experience for me, and maybe for opposing party. What I detest & hardly tolerate is the use of insulting terminologies, especially when its so brazen and unrefined. 7 Likes |

Juxtified: Good, But I don't think I am culpable of any “insulting terminologies” evaluating and making verdicts from my former mention/quote. Except the “Zombie” sobriquet of Buhari's affiliates, of which is already a norm on NL. 20 Likes 1 Share |

Juxtified:We are already abdicating from the topic of which is one of those “norms”. So we the members have to start with our selves first before blaming the moderators. Besides, The word “Wailer” was incipiently adopted and used against non Buhari's affiliates by present Zombies. To me, the forum is already well moderated and there is no exigent need for alteration. 17 Likes 1 Share |

blueto: Our politics especially as youths has to go beyond Buhari vs GEJ, APC vs PDP, north vs south, etc. it is one of the shackles dragging us back as a nation. On the issue of the IMF list, I still maintain it smells fishy. We all know the IMF a strong political tool of the US, and along with the World Bank, a major way it (the US) controls its puppet nations. Only few would fail to note the stark coincidence between the timing of this list and the refusal of the present administration to dance to their tunes just a few months ago. As in, do you really mean to tell me that you believe Nigeria is not one of the top 5 fastest growing economies in Africa at present, not to talk of a Top 15 list? 7 Likes |

Just as expected... Now let's see the top 3 list of Terrorist countries in Africa as well as most corrupt countries in Africa and I will gladly commit suicide if Nigeria didn't make the top 3 out of the two ... It's pathetic that the pillar of Africa (Nigeria) is now a laughing stock... The administration itself is confuse.. You can imagine Nigeria still import pensil up till today and one red cap minister was happy coming to a TV programme to tell us that Nigeria will start producing pencil by 2020 and to top it up, just few days ago.. Oga at the top of NNPC just informed us that Nigeria will stop to experience fuel scarcity by 2019.. For their minds, second tenure is a 100% sure thing for them.. Well, we shall see... 10 Likes 1 Share |

Imagine Chad at -0.4% (minus 0.4%) Same as northern Nigeria, if they will just separate and take their leprous self and join Chad, because that is where they really belong. The rest of the country has nothing in common with them. They are just a useless, parasitic appendage that has refused to grow and kept dragging the rest of this so called nation backwards. They have refused to come to terms with evolution and development. I am not hating on them. I gain nothing by hating on them, but we will all gain if we decide to peacefully part ways and forge our future and destiny separately. 10 Likes |
