Here are some reasons to attend a private university 1. A definite graduation date: Unlike public institutions which are prone to strikes, in a private university there's no possibility of a strike. Atleast 6 government universities have currently been shut down in Nigeria right now. University of Ibadan, UNILAG, UNIPORT, AAU, KSU etc are currently shut down. This will lengthen the duration of time you are to spend on a program. Crime rate by students of these institutions have increased because they are now idle. 2. It's safer: No cult clashes, no protests. You won't live in fear of some cult members or students vandalizing properties in the name of protests. One of the biggest undoings of public universities is Cultism... Which has claimed the lives of thousands of innocent people and cult members respectively. However, students in private universities are safe from the fear of a cult attack. Protests are also very violent these days. Just the way it happened in UNILAG and UNIPORT where lots of properties were destroyed and some lives were in fact lost, in a private school there's no chance for that. 3. A faster syllabus: It takes just about 4 years to complete a 5 year program in private schools. However public schools have a slower academic calendar. Even without the strikes, the calendar of a private school is usually faster than that of a public school. 4. A more concentrated learning process: In private schools, special attention is given to every student of the school. The lecturers all have a duty to pay special attention to each and everyone of the student and put them through their lacks. This way your flaw is easily detected and will be dealt with appropriately. However in public schools especially with the size and population, it is impossible for this to happen. The school have almost no personal relationship with the students and they are not aware of any personal psychological needs of the students. 5. Better welfare: The individual welfare of the students are catered for. The accommodation is way better than you get in hostels of public schools. Most times they have no light or water problems. The condition of their hostels and classes is way better too. Even in general courses you won't see them running to catch sits because everyone gets to sit down comfortable. With the welfare learning is made a lot easier because you will be less strained. 6. Better Moral Training : The university is the melting point of all moral standards. There's no form of anti-moral behaviour you wouldn't find in a university. However, private universities, with their very strict enforcement of moral values, have reduced the decay in moral values by far. 20 Likes 2 Shares

This one makes far more sense than the first rubbĂsh that hit front page. I can guess that one was written by a spiteful public uni grad who wanted to make private school look inferior. Lalasticlala, seun and mods in general should take note of this trend of indirect jibes. 9 Likes |

Wahalaboy:I don't agree with this point plainly. It takes shorter time in public sch to complete a particular program. I use engineering for example in AAU Ekpoma they give Bsc Eng for some 4 years program while in any NUC approved and conforming private unis it is 5 years non-negotiable. Other point you didn't mention are: 7) Superior standards In most public uni setting the lecturers are local or homebased and as a result they are familiar with the supervising lecturers from NUC or visiting lecturers from other schools. This promotes laxity in enforcing standards and as a result, there is massive 'sorting' (bribery), sex for grade, cheating and outright falsification of results that could have been easily detected by visiting lecturers or regulatory bodies like NUC. How does a student sit and learn when he or she has to or can easily sort, 'sex-sort', cheat, or falsify a result? 8 superior real world experience and laboratory. Most private unis are not just well equiped but super equiped. Covenant uni, Babcock uni and Afe babalola uni combined easily dwarfs all public federal unis combined in laboratory equipment standard and volume or availability per student. I am pretty sure it will remain same if all state schools are added to public schools while other private unis are added to the mentioned schs. 9)Organized system. In private systems. You get your transcripts easily. In public uni the reverse is the case 40% of the time. Same pattern holds for Jamb regularization, NYSC call-up and result checking. 11 Likes |

These is no such thing as a good reason to attend any Private University in Nigeria.. Madonna University = Shiit.. Covenant University = Shiit.. UNIBEN = Shiit.. e.t.c. If you did not attend UNILAG, OAU, UNN or ABU then I'm sorry you are not qualified to be called a Graduate. 22 Likes 1 Share |

How many private university have been accredited by NUC? After paying over 3 million naira for tuition to study Mass Communication and in your final year, NUC claims your institutions hasn't been accredited to take the course then your course is been changed into "Public/Citizenship Studies" ****Signed**** Jealous Student Of Federal University 1 Like |

Spot on Where is that dullard from a public university, the idiat that composed the other error filled trash called thread Why do peeps hail private primary and secondary schools and yet be envious of private universities?? Maybe this is because they could afford only private primary and secondary schools, just maybe. Private Universities are way out their leagues, possibly. That other thread reminds me of those who left in our year 2 because of increased tuition. They will definitely be saying trash to justify their lack....that other OP is clearly one of such peeps. Instead of attacking private universities I suggest these guys organize a protest against their poor educational backgrounds and facilities. Ndi Ara!!!! 4 Likes |

Ok, I agree with most of your point, but for some middle class Nigerian family having 5 kids to put through school, The exorbitant school fees in these private institutions cannot fit allow us attend o. Meanwhile, there is this extra swag if you graduated from a federal institution and maybe God come butter your bread and you make a first class. You don't just hear ahhh s/he made a first class, you always hear an additional from FUTO/ UNIPORT/ UNN/ gbogbee as well. SWAG 5 Likes |

1. There is no public school in Nigeria that does not have a definite graduation date except a few. 2. About safety and cultism... it all goes to how you discipline yourself! The university is a community of its own and the world has never being a peaceful place to live, so there is bound to be some kind of human unrest (protest). The worst of it all is there exorbitant school fees 1 Like |
