Obinna James has been arrested and charged before Apapa Magistrate’s court for allegedly brutalizing his wife, Ebere over sex overture to have more children in their home in Apapa, Lagos State Western Nigeria.

He was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri for the alleged offence under the Criminal code.

The incident happened at 26 Babatunde street, Olodi Apapa where they reside. The mother of three who is a hawker resisted her husband’s attempts to impregnate her.

She reportedly told him that they were not financial buoyant to add to the three kids they already have, comprising a girl and two boys.

Enugu State-born Obinna is a commercial driver and his wife Ebere only just began street hawking to assist her husband and the family.

It was learnt that an attempt for Obinna to have his way led to Ebere fleeing their apartment.

In anger, Obinna chased her and held her on the street, forcing her to return to their apartment but she vigorously resisted him.

Vexed by her stance, Obinna battered her and threw her inside gutter, leaving her seriously bruised and badly injured.

It took the intervention of the residents who rescued the victim and took her to a hospital for treatment.

The residents who saw what happened contacted the police and he was arrested.

At the station, the police asked him to apologize to his wife and take care of his medical bill but he refused.

The police preferred charges against him and arraigned him before the court with assault and occasional harm.
He pleaded not guilty.

The presiding magistrate, Mr T. Abolarinwa granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

The matter was further adjourned till 11 May 2016.

He was remanded in prison pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
