Are Brazilians Yoruba people? What are you saying ?
Lagos went from colony to capital ,and all the while and now, is being developed by Nigerians from everywhere by virtue of it's former status.
Awo didn't do anything in Lagos , and you wonder why the rest of SW doesn't come close. It's actually Lagos that helps the other SW like nearby Ogun .

Lagos has always been and will always be a Yoruba State. Lagos was founded and used by the Oyo empire as a trading post, at that same time your people were still walking half naked in the SE bushes. The names of the streets, language, way of life and people are Yoruba. Fool yourself all you want but rest assured, the pot is boiling and soon ya'll will be marched out back to the SE, it's already started btw. Ogun is fast meeting up with Lagos, however am certain in the next 10 years, you will also claim it was developed by everyone. Give it a rest already, stay calm and benefit from the SW.

Only a SE person would come into your home, beg for food and then later spit in your face. Jealousy, envy and hate has never gotten anyone anywhere, don't believe? Take a good look at your region. I am not an ethnic bigot but if you make crude remarks at my people, i will strike back!! We will strike back !!!

NO mind them, they dont even know the history of lagos, Lagos was never part of old western Nigeria, even in Nigerian constitution Lagos is not part of SW. Before the colonial masters, Lagos was under colonization by Benin empire, Oba of Benin gave lagos the name Eko, when the white conquered Benin empire they changed the name from Eko to Lagos, Yorubas was never in control of lagos. That is why lagos is referred to as no mans land by Nigerians.
You yourself is ignorant of the story of Lagos. The colony of Lagos where the white men stayed back then is different from Lagos state of today. So Lagos state is a combination of the old colony of Lagos and part of the western region. The colony of lagos was Marina, Ikoyi and Victoria Island. The present day Lagos state has expanded towards Ibeju Lekki,Ajah, Epe, Ikorodu( All belonging to my people the Ijebus) on one side and on the other side of the sea to Ikeja and beyond. Did u see any pictures of Ikeja, Lekki, Ajah in the pictures. Even if you claim the Marina and Victoria Island is no mans land do you want to claim Ikorodu, Epe, Ajah is no mans land too. Or the Badagry area owned by the Egun or the Ikeja towards Ipaja owned by the Aworis as no mans land. Be Careful. In most of those pictures how many Igbos or Hausa's can you see there. My grandmother is still alive, worked as a banker in Old Barclays bank( now Union Bank) and will tell you there were a few people of other Nigerian tribes in lagos then.Except for Politicians, Professionals in various fields from other tribes that came to Lagos then, majority of other Nigerians started migrating enmass to Lagos after the Independence. The part where the Oba of Benin came and ruled was the water area where trading was been done and he didnt bring his people down there he only conquered. He met lots of people there the Aworis, the Egbas, Ijebus, Ijaws. The portugese also came there to trade with them they named the place " Lagos" not the british, there is still a place called Lagos in Portugal today. Let me stop here and conclude. Only the Yorubas can lay claim to lagos ownership but cause of its status as being a former capital of Nigeria and at some point was "further" built by all Nigerians and as long as Nigeria stands it is for all Nigerians.

Maybe you need to first understand the Distributable Pool Account (DPA) worked out at the London Constitutional Conference of 1957 & the Raisman-Tress Commision. The sources of Federal Revenue, etc.

You also need to first properly understand why the 1962 census cancelled by Balewa govt angered AG/Awo & Eastern Region, when the 1963 census (re-instating inflated Northern population) was adopted by NPC. And the constitutional crisis that ensued.

If the Fed didn't have massive revenues/developmental projects to distribute based on population figures (aside parliamentary seats), why the so much ado about it, if revenues really mostly stayed in the regions? It is all a myth.

Midwest Region with a healthy revenue from Rubber, Cocoa & Timber had to grudgingly/diplomatically accept 1963 population figures, despite strongly protesting it initially. Why? Officially to maintain peace/national unity. Actually reason was serious threat from Fed govt to punish just over a year old new Region by withdrawing funds, projects; essentially cause crisis there.

Centralisation stealthily began long ago & fed has been powerful economically/financially "it has tey". It was only formalised by Ironsi.

Stop going political...

Cocoa house in ibadan was completed in 1972. Which means the SW had loads of income and resources then.

This pictures are about Lagos (a SW state) and they have been recycled many times on NL.

My point is, we haven't seen pictures of the north, SE and SS before 1960 but we have seen the pics of SW countless times.

We can see that even before 1960. The SW was very conducive and a good place to live and it was the yorubas that built and developed it.

If not for tinubu's foolishness by partnering with the north. The SW could have focused on itself and developed very quickly.

Lagos has the highest IGR in Nigeria. As of today, the SW does not need Nigeria for it to develop and it never needed Nigeria.

I guess your problem is with tribe.

You pay your taxes where you live and earn a living. Someone can go & live in Kafanchan if he doesn't want to live in or develop Lagos.

Brazilians were returnee slaves, yes many were of Yoruba origin. But they remained in Lagos because of what it offered them: a cosmopolitan environment & opportunities next to the Europeans then. It still offers opportunities now, long after federal capital moved to Abuja.
How did this post address anything? We are not talking of Oyo state here, and this is final?

These pictures make my heart heavy with grief. I would have loved living in that Lagos.
you just spoke my mind verbatim, there's always this feeling of melancholy that creeps in when I view pictures such as these or when I read novels describing the old Nigeria and Lagos in particular. it sparks my curiosity about how people lived back then.

Please sir, what has Tinubu partnering with the North got to do with the development of Lagos?
Sometimes our hatred for an individual deprives of sound reasoning ability!

Here we have a thread which is about the transformation of Lagos and you came on about spewing hatred for Tinubu who, of course, by default, is the major player in the rescuing of Nigeria from an 'Ineffectual Buffoon" under whom administration Nigeria was literally thrown at the dogs to be mercilessly devoured.

This is not to exonerate Mr Tinubu and many others self serving so called leaders of his ilk like Mr Atiku, late Olusola Saraki, Orji Uzor Kalu, IBB, et al who denies Former President Obasanjo the ambition of either installing a Southerner as successor or continue in office to complete the reformation of the Nigerian civil and economics environment.

Ironically, and by providence and MUCH GRATITUDE TO GOD ALMIGHTY, President Buhari was restored as leader after 30yrs to continue a JOB OF HOUSE CLEANSING which he had started during his first rule 1983-1985. Then, we witnessed when Nigerians began to follow due process in achieving their daily objectives and their fear of WAI BRIDGADES (WAR AGAINST INDISCIPLINE) is the beginning of wisdom. Orderliness, trust and efficiency were obtained in the civil service and almost everybody conform to the rule of law until IBB and his cohorts halted the transformation installing graft, impunity and disorderliness in its place.

I must, again, state clearly that I am not holding brief for any politician nor do I belong to any political party I am simply a Nigerian who desire a progressive, indivisible and economically strong Nigeria where all her citizens can achieve their dreams of greatness and prosperity. Those who are bent on depriving us of much needed development by their UNPATRIOTIC GREED are all over Nigeria, they belong to all tribes and we are (the gullible ones) JUST PAWNS in their devlish chess games.
