jwillng:It covers a 53sq mile area! My local airport doesn't compare to it all. DFW (Dallas-Fortworth) airport is another huge airport. I've read stories of people that had to walk close to 40 minutes just to get from one gate to another, within the same terminal. 1 Like |

i will go straight to the point and not bore you guys with unnecessary details. i had to open a new account so not to draw unnecessary attention from those that know me with my username either from the office or otherwise i work in a federal establishment earning about 100k per month. my establishment is about to send some people to the US for a convention though they wont be footing the bills. All they will do is make you get your papers easily by presenting you as their own. fortunately, i am among the few selected interested ones. now my dilemma is that i think it is not wise to use my years savings in footing a trip which i wont benefit from economically considering my financial status. using all my savings in going to the State just to stay for about a month and come back to the country broke. i am actually interested in going and disappearing and try to make a life there. but my parents have advised me that it is not wise to leave my job to an uncertain future. To make matters worse i don't know anyone there who can accommodate me and put me through. No contact whatsoever to take shelter with. i am torn between taking the risk and staying back entirely and hustling it out in Nigeria as a civil servant but i don't see myself making it big in civil service except i get the opportunity to dasukigate some funds from our government. lol please i need the best advice i can get and i trust my nairaland family. lalasticlala and the mod here abeg help my ministry 3 Likes 1 Share |

mrego: Questions in highlights answered in order: 1. It is not wise at all and infact this may be reason enough to deny you the visa if the VO feels the cost of the trip is not commensurate with what you earn. But you may be lucky. If the trip is all expenses paid, then go and have fun! 2. Your parents are wise indeed. Going to "disappear" in the US is a fool's errand. Most likely there will be a new immigration law in the next 2 years that will require all employers to run an I-9 verification of lawful status for anyone seeking employment. That means you cannot work. You will never be able to obtain an SSN - which means no ability to buy a car, a house, an ID of any kind, own a bank account etc. You will never be eligible to adjust to legal status and if caught, you will be barred from the states for life. So really, what's the point of a life lived mainly in fear and in hiding? My best advice for those who wish to emigrate to the US - consider the school route and start EARLY! 19 Likes 1 Share |

Ajusshi: Com'on .... you have Nigerian in France, Italy, Russia, Japan ...all those places where English isn't spoken. So why not Quebec? Anyway, Canada is bilingual for the most part and all across Canada you will get government service in English and French. You have part of Quebec where English is spoken. I have come across some people who live in Quebec without knowing French. |

mrego: No. If you came in as a visitor B1/B2, you are automatically ineligible to adjust status to green card in the US. You must go back to your home country to do so. If you had overstayed your visa for >180 days, you would be ineligible for a green card anyway unless you apply for a waiver of inadmissibility. Its not totally impossible but its a long shot. 2 Likes |

mrego: Bros seize the opportunity. Nothing good in life comes easy. Everything that you want in life and is good is outside your comfort zone. If you visa is guaranteed because the Federal Government is guaranteeing it-take it as an opportunity. It will be on your record. But I dont advise you abscond. For what purpose? Keep your job. Calculate how much money you need for the trip? And do your Maths. If for example-total is N500,000-try and figure out how to make that back. It will take a lot of brain work and focus-but you can come up with a good idea. Maybe one of the Oga's in your Ministry needs a new macbook laptop or iphone-that can be almost 100k profit for you. As for accommodation-consider the following: 1) Combine with 2 other people and share an Hotel room. At $50 a night paid weekly-thats roughly $17 per person. $17 is about 5k a night. 2) Check Craigslist for vacation apartments or people looking to sub let. You may be lucky to get something for $100 a week 3) As around -there's always someone who knows someone who knows someone who has a relative in the USA that can house for a 3 weeks or so. Just be neat, polite and bring some gratitude. Use the trip to build bridges, make contacts, form relationships, be in good standing with the Embassy. And please dont do dasukigate-they are the people that have ruined Nigeria and there are curses on all of them already. 26 Likes |

Denver International Airport. No touts. No hustling. No robbers. Multi level and underground parking is common all over the USA. We need more of this in Nigeria-especially in Lagos. 4 Likes

TWoods: Your statement above about not been ineligible to adjust status to green card from b1 or B2 visa or overstayed visiting visa is totally false and the highest level of ignorant statement about the us immigration laws. Plz let us learnt to say what we know to be true/correct base on fact and not hearsay. 8 Likes 6 Shares |
