I will go for "Arrow of God"

With "Things Fall Apart", the legendary Chinua Achebe seemed to be struggling to find his form!!! The book was only lucky to be the really first pre and colonial tragic fiction from Africa!!! With "Arrow of God", Achebe was already a master storyteller!!!

"Arrow of God" is richer and more filling than "Things Fall Apart".

Even Achebe in his introduction to a new edition of "Arrow of God", couldn't hide his preference for "Arrow of God".

I will go for "Arrow of God". And I must put that everything that came out of Achebe is worth reading from "Things Fall Apart" even to his collection of short stories "Girls at War" and his storybook for children "Chike and the River"!!! The man was a master storyteller!!!
Chike and the River. Waoh! I read that book in jss 2.

I don't think it was okonkwo that said the above. I believe it was The eldest man in the gathering that was reprimanding him for telling another man this meeting is for men. Just because the man had no title

You've said it all. Gbam!!
Most pEeps going for Things Fall Apart are just doing 'cos of the hype!
Even Achebe himself didn't mince words to proclaim his favorite book'!
"Arrow of God is the only book i find myself reading over and over again"

-Chinua Achebe 1982
Honestly, you are just so right!!! The hype really drives "Things Fall Apart".

Things Fall Apart....the movie adaptation made the book worth reading
Jesus! A Nollywood movie adaptation made one of the greatest books ever worth reading? Give that book to James Cameron or Steven Spielberg and you will have something closer to artistic excellence of Jurassic world series or Titanic.

Things fall apart, literature was my favourite subject in schoool, i love literature like mad, i was good in literature, buh in waec i got d7 in literature 4 straight times i took waec 4 times because of literature, i was angry because i know is not my fault, waec should be showing students their answer sheet after marking, buh now i have move on, is part of life, political science doesn't need literature so am going for it, mind u is not my fault, when given assignment in literature back then in school i will be the first person to do and submit it i will also score higher than my class mates

I thought this only happened to me..D7 too in my Waec, twice..
And people were actually looking forward to see the 'best' in literature's result..
Either we weren't as good as we thought or we got overconfident and wrote OP (Out of Point)..hehehehehehe

that's a cheap shot. It's just like me making fun of your misspelling of wrong when I know you are typing with ur phone and it couldn't be perfectly edited.
Not a cheap shot at all.

Misspellings are not same as poor grammar.

To start with, the topic has nothing to do with his cause of lamentation. He makes it look like he deserved to have passed but was failed for other reasons other than his own deficiencies.

The better of the two books is Arrow of god. Things fall apart is critically acclaimed in the literally world, typical of a good book that makes a way and creates a niche for its space in the library of world literature. It is a good read any time, any day. But in Arrow of god, Achebe came of age. His plot became better, the dialogue sharper, and his well known habit of destroying his characters became more enhanced. In Things fall apart, Achebe destroyed Okonkwo. But despite Okonkwo's fiery temper and other misgivings, in him we saw the first nationalist that resisted foreign colonial penetration into Africa. But then in Arrow of god, Ezeulu was destroyed by Achebe for the flimsy reason of pride! That's all. What a story! The simplicity of Arrow of god is worth mentioning also. Things fall apart is popular but the better of the two books is without doubt the Arrow of god. The great author also had this opinion.

Arrow of God...anyday, anytime

Recently I picked both books again. It was the revised edition of Arrow of God I read this last time, and it was so captivating from the first letter to the last. The proverbs were deep and striking, the words felt real and simple, and the descriptions were detailed so that it was well imagined in my head. There was more talk about what happened in the Obi, the whole chalk thing and the particular toes that were marked.

I think Things Fall Apart was over hyped compared to Arrow of God. The former seemed to have been written in a rush.

Dispute what I said or shut the hell up. Check, make research and come back. Why is Chinua Achebe regarded as the father of 'modern African literature'??

I prefer Arrow of God because its a tragicomedy.
Things fall Apart although its more proverbial but also interesting.

I still love Anthills of the Savannah.

The best derpends on the reader. To me, Arrow of God deals with the real pre colonial Igbo way of life, and Achebe should have written it first, with Things fall Apart as follow up; just as he wrote No longer at Ease as follow up to Things fall Apart.
Things fall Apart was themed in the transitional period when the white man's religion, system of justice and general way of life was at battle with Igbo way of life.

Even Chinua Achebe has said that 'Arrows of God' is his favourite book. In his words: "...it is the book you are most likely to catch me reading again."

Lol. From things fall apart, to arrow of God, to anthills of the savanna, to his children literature chike and the river, to his essays like "the education of a British protected child", to his more recent there was a country, I've read all his books and have written seminar papers on several of his books, now who is the clown
By simply "googling" 'chinua achebe' you can get a list of all his books. You missed out 'A man of the people'. Clowning around does not necessarily mean that one is a clown. Congrats on your seminar papers.

Just a reminders guys. Arrow Of God is a continuation Things Fall Apart. Just same story with differnt charaters. However, the crux of d story was embedded in Things Fall Apart.
The center cannot hold. Mere anarchy rules upon the land.
Things Fall Apart will always have my vote.
