Marry another AC or AS with caution. There is 25% probability of having SC as a child. SC is almost the same as SS but little variance of sane disorder..

nonsense!

the major factor to determine marriage is virginity.

if she is a virgin good to go but if she isn't a virgin probability you might born a baby which is not yours or a disable baby.

depending on what she has use her Virginia to do determine the calamity or disappointment yet to happen to the marriage!

if you did abortion just know that your marriage will never last and the child your will born will be mentally unstable.

if you did numerous abortion! sorry is your middle name!

that genotype stuff is RUBBISH!

and if you are the type who is sleeping with guys and be using CONDOM! your child's head will forever be block just like CONDOM which block SPERM form entering.

this is a proven fact!

uote author=durubrian post=45212322]Over the years, marriages have been conducted without ascertaining the genotype of the intending couples. Hence, many families have given birth to children and they die in their face. Research have shown that most of these children whose genotype is 'SS' dose not live up to two decades. And when they die at such a tender age, the family members tag them an ogbanje(reincarnate) in igbo or abiku(predestined to die) in yoruba, not
knowing that it was their ignorance that brought about the death of these children. Also, a research conducted examined defined symptoms of 100 children classified as ogbanje. Haemoglobin analysis showed that 70 of the 100 children had sickle cell disease(SCD) and thereby died in their adolescent age
What is genotype?

Genotype is the genetic make up of an individual. It(genotype) shows the inherited traits of an individual from his parents. That is why people are able to run paternity test.

Why is genotype a determinant factor in marriage?

There are three possible genotype an individual can possess which are;
- AA normal child
- AS normal but carrier of sickle cell
-SS sickle cell anamiea popularly called sickler.
When a newly wedded couples having both a genotype of AS, when you cross breed it you will find out that there is every 25% chance of giving birth to a child with a genotype of SS.

Effects of giving birth to a child whose genotype is SS.

Sickle cell disease is an inherited disorder in which red blood cells(RBCs) are abnormally shaped. This abnormality can result in painful episodes, serious infections chronic anamiea and damage to body organs. Someone who inherits a sickle cell gene from each parent has haemoglobin SS disease also called sickle cell anamiea. The individual immune system is weak and hence can suffer from tissue and bone damage, strokes and organ failure. The body system is subject to high risk of infections.

These individuals suffers severe sickness from child birth and hence causes pains, worries and anxieties to Their parents. Only minority survive at this tender age, majority die after their parents must have spent so much seeking for a cure.

In conclusion, genotyping(a test carried out to know the genotype make up of an individual) is very essential before marriage. I hereby, advice every couple who wants to wed to go for genotyping before heading on with the marriage plans, in other to avoid the consequences it might bring upon you and your family.

Nevertheless, there are other important test intending couples are expected to run such as ABO blood group, HIV but of these, genotype is very essential.
Thanks ...
Buh its remains 3 more types of Genotype ,you haven't mention
They are ; AC , CC , SC
Those three are also hepatis C trait / maybe carrier in Homologous individual.

My brother your article is correct, but truth be told science has put dat to rest nw. With the advent if Pre- genetic screen and diagnosis AS couple can comfortably marry nw. Only that kids will only come through IVF. Nisa premier hospital abuja are doing this treatment for their IVF patient.

No op ...its advisable you marry AA
Or even your fellow AC ,but their is chance of you having an offspring of CC if you marry AC .buh its better than SS and SC ...a CC is juss a carrier , they don't have much crisis compare to SS and SC ...for the safe sake marry AA .

What a very brilliant topic......

My take on this is very simple, let every would be couple ascertain the genotype of their partner before tying the knot. From my personal experience, i never knew that my wife's genotype is AB and her blood group is O (negative) while mine is AA and O+ so when she gave birth, the doctor called me to pay for an injection called anti rhogam injection which will enable her breastfeed my son and this injection must be administered on her within the first 72hrs after delivery and same must follow after every other delivery. This would have caused serious crisis if not that i was able to manage it. So it is important for every would be couple to carry out medical check up on each other and be sure that they are compatible before taking the bold step.

Just some essential corrections:
1 - I am a professional in this field. The test called genotype in Nigeria is actually a phenotype test because they test the type of haemoglobin molecule in a person's red blood cells rather than directly test for the gene that gives rise to the haemoglobin.
2 - Even the phenotype test is a partial one because many labs outside government labs test only for A and S haemoglobins.Unfortunately, there are other types of haemoglobin that behave like S for example haemoglobin D in Alkaline electrophoresis.
3 Due to the narrowness of the test, other abnormal haemoglobins like compound sickling haemoglobins and the thalasaemias.
