Even right there, you can see that Heererra had 5 assists as a no 10 role for Bilbao! It was only in the previous season he played as a box-box CM in a 3-man midfield and had only 2 assists to his name!
Kante on the other hand played in a 2-man midfield where he often start his move right from his co-midfielder, Drinkwater's standing position yet still had 4 assists!

That said! I don't know which game you were watching that had Rooney recovering ball 10 times. You probably mistook him for Kante who made 5 tackles and 6 interception in the game.
Also, Rooney heatmap wass mostly concentrated just outside the 18 yard box while the change of tactic in the second half was the reason Fellaini was often found in the box.
The reality is Rooney was predictable with his constant stup!d long passes to the wing and contributed little despite seeing more of the ball. He was just useless yesterday! There's no 2 way about it.

Rooney also passed to Rashford and Fellaini who played directly in front of him. But you should know it is hard to penetrate Leicester directly. Rooney passed more through the middle in previous matches, but here Rashford was up against Morgan and those guys who are expert at protecting front of their box.

Our goal came from the wing, we could have scored one more from the wing in the first half.

As for Rooney's heatmap, put that pitch in there parts and you would know that Rooney played more in the middle of the park. Carrick position also looked advanced because we pressed high on the pitch. Carrick and Rooney operated almost in same zone. If you knew the role Rooney played, you wouldn't complain a bit.

It is a shame that you are comparing a CM assists stats to the no 10 role where Herrera played in his last stint at Bilbao. How about you tell us our Ginger master, Paul Scholes assists stat as a CM? This doesn't suggest Kante is as good as Scholes.
That said, in yesterday match, Kante made 24 passes with 84% passing accuracy. He also made 2 accurate crosses and 1 accurate long passes out of his 2 long passes.
Herrera on the other hand in his time on the pitch had 72% passing accuracy for his 18 passes made. Made one long passes which was inaccurate.

For me o, Rooney should go & fight for his place as a CF. if he can't displace Rashford bros make he go bench.

There's no reason Schneiderlin, Carrick, Bastian, Herrera, Perreira, Blind, Fellaini all proper midfielders will be here & some will have to sit out for Rooney.
