Am sorry but I need to know why people especially Nigerians put so much emphasis on having a child,especially/even those that can't/barely feed themselves.

I saw a thread on how to conquer barren,I was amassed how many women there that are ready to do anything just to have a child.

That got me to bring this question to you here, why do you want/have a child?yes you.

Because society says it is the best thing to do. And it is the best achievement, though in the long run!

We want kids because later in life.. ... You'll look around and realize you need to see your own blood in form as human. Even when you have gathered millions.... You'll probably look around and want someone to have a good taste of your sweat. Children comes to mind. I think emphasy is now placed more on having children and achieving success than settling down these days. When those kids start growing bigger and taller than you are, then you know what fulfillment means.

Note: Some1 said the greatest feeling comes when your child strokes your hair.

Very Simple.

At the moment with the few comments here,I take it that some people are having babies only because they saw others having, they really don't know why they are even having them.

It breaks my heart seeing how many african kids are neglected, especially many Nigerian kids.

I think that kids are treasures that shouldn't be had by everyone/anyone,they should only be made by those that knew their worth and can take good care of them, not just anyone.

And it shouldn't be a do or die matter

Thanks, but I still want to know why people want to have children so bad, especially with Nigeria and her harsh economy, coupled with bringing a child that may have 99.9% chances of going to hell,in many Nigerians religious views.

I don't believe in hell/heaven though.

OP, why are you working hard? Do you fancy the good things of life? Do you intend to strive and be really successful? If you intend to be successful then definitely you will have properties and money in deposits, who do you intend to bequeath all these things to? Charity?

The joy and happiness you bring to your parents everyday that you breath, wouldn't you want your own kid(s) to bring you the same?

Mate these are not good enough reason to bring kids into this wicked world especially not in Africa.

There ra too many orphans around the world, why not adopt them or even visit them and share that success/wealth them.

IMHO,ur reason can be seen as selfish interest,I however,do not have any problem if you can afford their upkeep, emotionally and financially, unlike the typical African parents, that bring kids to life believing that destiny or God will raise them.

I am seriously damaged and traumatised by what I saw in Nigeria on my last visit.

I think they should introduce a kids permit in Nigeria.

Are you sure it doesn't go deeper than your experience at your last visit to Nigeria?

What did you see?

The rate of neglects on kids, the rate of poverties, child labours and I wish I can help them all,but I only have two hands.

The only solution imo is to campaign for family planning and to educate the young boys/girls not to fall into the same trap as their parents.

Am sure you knew what am talking about, you're only pretending except only if you re not Africa.

Use the Danish woman and the African child witche as a case study mate.

Most illiterate or half baked lieterate people have failed to see the need for family planning or birthing of maximum number of kids they can care for, rather they are brain washed with the ideology "God gives children"

most of this children, which they are unable to train ,it bleeds my heart seeing adolescents and teenagers suddenly turned to adults due to negligence of parents

this is the order of the day.

I pray people see the light some day, some way

I will continue doing my best.

But a whole lot of sensitization needs to be done.

the Government needs to do more
Religious leaders have a role to play too, seeing that they have a kind of influence on the society and way of life of most people, they should preach family planning.

btw

bro, have you heard of the gospel according to MIMZY

Why I want Kids? Well, I like them sometimes grin it's not a do or die for me though, but I would like to guide someone through life. I think most Africans want children especially to help when one gets old, but since there are no guarantees in life it may not turn out this way for everyone.

Thank you for ur honesty,I thought so,that they saw kids as their pensions, but they forgot that the laws of nature has it that we will reap from what we sow, they can't expect kids that had no head start in life to look after them In their old age, when they can barely look after theirselves due to their parental lack of proper planning.

You're talking like this because you've been seeing kids raise kids. There are few people who won't think of getting anyone pregnant or being pregnant because they want the best for their child and they know how important it is to give them the best of everything so they'll rather chill before they pop babies into this world. But that's your plan. There are others who will keep popping out regardless of what's on ground they are the kind that are ok with even below standard of living not because they don't want good but its what they can afford and mostly they're products of bad upbringing and prolly no education. Do you want to tell a conductor, vulganizer, okada man and other earners alike to chill till he can afford a montessori for his child before popping? and mostly people like this got no chill when they decide to start popping. And as someone discussed you always yearn to have your own blood, it's happiness on its own.

True, but with a little bit of education am sure that the so called conductor and vulcaniser will learn, but like the saying goes,if you educate a man,you educate a family, but if you educate a woman, you educate a generation.

Am focussing on women for now.women/girls pls learn to use contraceptives,it goes a long way.
