My cousin travelled to the US a week ago for a Art conference ( he is on a business visa). The Art Residency as its called is still ongoing and will finish soon.

He made an arrangement with his friend in Ohio that after the conference he would be coming over to stay with him. When he got to the US, he called his friend and the friend started ignoring his calls. He finally got through but the friend told him that he has changed his mind that he should look for somewhere else to stay.

Cousin is disappointed, and doesn't have anybody or place to stay after the conference. The conference is in New york. The Art organizers provided him with accommodation until the end date of the conference.

Nairalanders, I need your help to assist this brother.

Many nailanders live in the US. You just never can tell. The guy is a very good guy. You should meet him and know him. Very gentle.

If he has accommodation until the end of the conference why is he looking for a place to stay? Is your friend not planning to return home? Why would he want to beg people for a place to stay when he could easily head back home after attending the art conference unless he has other plans.

The first conference ends May 20th. He also has another conference starting May 22nd. He was provided accommodation for the 1st conference but couldnt get accommodation for the 2nd.

-Sandusky?(I have an akata family here,but d woman. Go won collect small money from am ohh)

Another very good advice is that he should go to a n9ja church (Redeemed )cos i know my church in LA always help in cases like this..,he is 98% sure of getting a place to sleep..)if he tries a n9ja church..

Finaly,whts his plan after conference, is he coming back abi him won start to dey hustle iyawo for kpaly?how I wish he was in Cali, I for carry am go drop for my church, (there,he went have to worry for food,accommodation and free internet cos my pastor and his crew are among d nicest peeps u will ever meet)

He has agreed to go back to Nigeria later this month. Thanks for the good gesture though.

you my friend are very F'ed up with your comment. you want him to sleep under third ave bridge or throgs neck bridge. chai

An average 9ja man is not a fraudster. They are struggling too and they are def not interested in showing somone with no plan the ropes of how to survive as an illegal anymore. These people who keep striving for visa, buying ticket and just packing bag to go look for help without planning are bold and dumb at the same time. Even i had an old school mate who i hadn't spoken to in over 10yrs who called me suddenly telling me he is coming for conference and wants me to put him up. i was like bro we went to school together over 10yrs ago and im not sure i know you enough for you to just call me out the blue and expect me to just open my home or contacts onto you. if you had been calling me to get acquainted again, then i might be willing but you just called to ask for a place to stay? nah ma niqqa.

people don't like to plan and just expect that hey we are all 9ja so you should help. I don't mind helping but at least show me that you had a plan and it failed and certainly don't impose on me without asking if my own situation permits me to put you up. You don't know if i myself are homeless of if im married with children or if i don't live in the state anymore.

I bet this is an isolate incident given that most people would be grateful to their helper.
There will always be someone who will abuse the hospitality received. But, we should never stop helping one another.
