MetaHuman:
Birds die more this time of the year.

Make sure you separate suspected sick birds, they could be contagious. Once you notice the birds eat less and not as active as the rest with roughed feather, remove asap.

Try and get a battery cage, and make sure the place is well ventilated ..

I had small issue too last week that made me lose about 15 birds.. But I have been able able to rectify it by placing the rest of my birds in battery cage and isolate the suspected birds for special treatment.

Birds mass mortality is the biggest problem is poultry production.
Pls I stay in Benin City, how can I get a battery cage for my birds so as to avoid this issues on time? Thnks.

Hello, its quite unfortunate that you're also getting your own fair share of pros and cons of poultry farming. I guess your consultant didnt do a good job or rather you were playing the game of spend wise pounds foolish, there are a lot of registered animal scientist out here who can be of great help to you before you start your business including vet doctors who will guide you in vaccine administration. All well said and done, take the following steps which can help you as soon as possible before things get out of hands. According to the symptoms you gave, although you haven't tried to open the carcass (dead bodies) to give further signs and symptoms or even their feacal samples( i mean shit), i'll advice you get DOXY-GEN (a strong broad spectrum antibiotics) it comes in 100g/sachet if i may guess and note its 1g to 1 bird
the you should also get ENRO solution (it comes in liquid, make sure you read the dosage at the vet shop.
Why did i give you this?
Am suspecting a viral infection, cos whenever you have a viral infection, this virus replicates in multitudes and attack the bursa of fabricus (the immune factory or antibodies) thereby affecting the birds, they break down ASAP leaving any bacteria infection to fire them, then loose appetite, then death result. Please dont say i said these, you know why? Because am not a Vet doctor am only a qualified Animal Nutritionist, all i said is based on my experience on farm, i respect our Vet doctors alot although they think we animal scientist are their greatest critic/enemy and vice-versa.
So my Bro, take a sample of the carcass to the Vet shop tomorrow morning, if you stay in lagos, check on Animal care lab or Diversay in Agege, make sure you go to a reliable Vet Doctor. I believe this crappy info will help you out but next time make sure you make your findings before you start any bizness and consult the right HAND.

1) Separate the infected ones
2) invite a vet.
Or
3) Go to poultry drug outlet, ask for broad and strong antibiotic that can handle chronic respiratory disease, coryza, and bacterial infection. Your location will determine the available drug on shelf. If Lagos go to Oko Oba Agege. If Akure go to Ilesha garage , if Benin go to Sakponba Road. If Yenagoa go to Tombia jxn.
Or simply Whatsapp me on 08030802013 for more assistance

This is a case of Fowlpox and Coryza

For fowl pox, use admacine and for coryza, use CTC...

You can combine both...

To be used for 5-7days

@ Jofez that's part of the risk in poultry business, i will need a clear picture of one of the sick birds, i have some questions to ask you
1. How is reliable is the farm you bought those point of lay birds from?
2. Did you ask of their past vaccination program?
3. Did you observe your birds on daily basis?
4. At 21 weeks do you vaccinate them?
5. I guess you are on a deep liter system how often do you turn and change your liter material?
6. Is your poultry house well ventilated?
7. Did you de-worm them?
8. How often did you adhere to your bio-security measures?
9. Did you have an isolation space on your farm and dis you isolate sick birds as soon as you notice them?
You can reach me on whatapp with 08070872196 Most importantly send me a clean and clear picture of one of the sick birds. Thanks.

I had just wanted to read people's comments and just pray that the OP takes a right decision, but for the trashy advice you just spewed, I am commenting. I find it difficult to believe that you truly obtained those degrees you copied and pasted up thereof.Education has taught me never to give an advice I am not sure of especially when it has to do with professional fields because I would end up looking stupid instead of being appreciated. To add salt to injury, you added B.Sc and M.Sc at the end of the rubbish you typed..Let me just ignores you and attend to the main issue.
@OP you didn't state enough clinical signs to help anybody arrive at a tentative diagnosis but to put a stop to the mortality while you await a Vet, buy Polidine from any vet shop and administer at 1ml of the drug to I litre of drinking water for 5 days.
NOTE: No matter what the vet prescribes as long as it is not vaccine, mix the polidine with the drug, it is compatible with all drugs
I wish you well.CHEERS
