Abia Faults Akpabio’s Claim On Kidnapping by kahal29: 8:46am On May 06, 2016 |
ABIA State government has attacked the Senate Minority Leader and former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio, over a statement credited to him that kidnapping in return for money started in the state. The government said that Akpabio’s claim was “erroneous and misleading.” Akpabio was said to have made the claim, Wednesday, on the floor of the Senate while contributing to the debate on Joint Committee Report on Police Affairs, National Security and Intelligence. A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Godwin Adindu said that Akpabio was trying to re-write history. “This declaration by the Distinguished Senator is an attempt to re-write history whilst history remains constant. The most anti-human crime of kidnapping in all its ramifications, either for ransom or as a form of protest, remains a child of the Niger Delta. It was born and nurtured in the Niger Delta. Its roots go deep into the creeks. “Kidnapping in other places was an off-shoot of the failure of the management of the Amnesty Programme, when non-indigenes who were recruited to the barter trade of oil in exchange for arms and hard currency were excluded from the national amnesty programme. “The creek warlords had long started kidnapping for money before President Umaru Yar’Adua introduced the pacification and rehabilitation programme.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/05/abia-govt-faults-sen-akpabios-claim-kidnapping/ 9 Likes |

The Senate minority leader said it all... The militants kidnapped oil workers and expatriates to press home their demands which of course we condemned but was done as a last resort... But the Aba guys changed it to business, they could kidnap for even recharge card. 20 Likes 3 Shares |

Akpabio was very unprofessional in his statement . He was almost making careless statement like the 19 stupid northern governors. Akpabio should go and sort out child witch scandal in his villages. 11 Likes 2 Shares |

The most anti-human crime of kidnapping in all its ramifications, either for ransom or as a form of protest, remains a child of the Niger Delta. It was born and nurtured in the Niger Delta. Its roots go deep into the creeks. No 1 rule of shared goal is "never ever point out real or perceived faults of your Friends/Family / Associates in Public... They would never pat you on the back or appreciate it... right or wrong, good or bad, it's LIFE. The knee jerk reaction is to trade blames... 5 Likes |

Proudlyngwa: The same way there are some members of British Parliament from Social Democratic Party, Tory and Labour advocating for the Independence of Scotland. It doesn't make them less British now the referendum failed. It just about doing it in a civilized way. It's just an ideology. 4 Likes |

modath:Akpabio was very unprofessional with that statement. That was a direct insult to Abia state and a misleading lie. The knee jerk reaction is not to trade blames but to correct wrong impressions. In a sane environment, we would be investigating why the situation normalized when useless former governor T. A Orji, decamped from PPA to PDP 1 Like |

Proudlyngwa: Saying that kidnapping started from the creeks and that Aba kidnaps was an offshoot is trading blames or don't you think so? Conflict resolution should have been "You are not being truthful" and end it at that without referencing amnesty (that most know only empowers warlords ,)& creeks which is likely going to encourage a rebuttal ;... or don't you think so? 1 Like 1 Share |

But where is lalasticlala sef "Kidnapping in other places was an off-shoot of the failure of the management of the Amnesty Programme, when non-indigenes who were recruited to the barter trade of oil in exchange for arms and hard currency were excluded from the national amnesty programme." Antithesis!

modath:I meant to say the Abia state government response was a defense mechanism triggered response which ended up being a counter attack. It was also done to set the record straight that commercialised kidnapping had its base in the creeks not abia state, which I faulted in another post, comercialised kidnapping didnt start in abia state or the creeks and had nothing to do with amnesty. Commercialised kidnapping started in the streets of port Harcourt as a copy of creek kidnapping which even though it was wrong, was done to acquire arms and press home some points. I witness all this and thats why I am pained with Akpabios statement that Abia made kidnapping lucrative, which I say is a big fat lie 2 Likes 1 Share |
