This isn't enough to power a fully industrialised Lagos let alone a whole country. This is a good step nevertheless.
This will go a long way since it will almost double the current figure we re grappling with!

Lolz will the hydro power plant also provide enough forex and revenue for you to run the country?

It is not difficult to diversify from oil, it will just take time. Oil is only 13% of GDP. With proper tax coverage, oil can be made less relevant.

Seems the News is a rumor!
Still liking PMB and his polices though!

It takes 5 years to build a hydro power plant of this size.

Mambilla is no rumour.

The North should gear up for solar farm for solar farm. The South east should revamp their Coal and use that as source of their power. We in the South west will develop nuclear power plant. Everyone needs to get off Niger Delat and their gas

No major projects will be commissioned in the first term of this government except those left by GEJ, the is because Buhari left it late to start.

Even this project has not commenced hence 63 months commenced next few months.

Anyway, a journey of 1000miles start with one step in right direction.

This silllly people should build one power plant in ibadan, lagos or ondo state, those 3 states are the safest and most stable states
Lagos and ondo are now producing oil so their is going to be enough gas to fuel the plants
I don't trust the north or those region called south south/east part of Nigeria
u use crude oil to power gas plants

I laugh when people say we will soon leave the oil from Niger Delta. The last time i checked above 75% of our revenue still comes from the oil how can you then build or develop other regions without money?Think sometimes and stop writing nonsense all because you want to be holier than the north or maybe you want to continue the hate buhari have sow between the north and the south.Whether you like it or not the economy of this nation is tied to the South and no matter what will happen the south will still be more devloped and advance than the north
.Thanks.

Zombies, Jonathan has already awarded the two biggest hydro projects in Nigeria...Mambilla and Zungeru hydro power projects. http://www.thetidenewsonline.com/2012/11/19/fg-signs-mou-with-chinese-firms-…terminates-manitoba’s-hydro-power-contract/
What stalled the flag off(of the mambilla) was because of the 15% counterpart funding which was expected to be recouped from the privatisation of the NIPPs but which wasn't ready due to some teething challenges.
Therefore, Fashola should quietly continue the implementation of the two contracts and not trouble our ear drums as if they've done something we've never seen on the two projects.

Solar power can be utilized in any area of the country. I'd recommend solar power for largely rural communities where electricity demand isn't too high

63 months indeed!Another white elephant project to settle cronies.
considering that the Chinese are bringing 75% to the table while our government brings 25%, I don't see how 'cronies' will benefit. Also, I doubt the Chinese will want to see their money go down the drain. however one looks at it, this is laudable project if executed as planned. 5 years and 3 months isn't such a long time really.

Mambilla has not started. The idea was first conceived in 1982. Jonathan tried to revive it but it was cancelled again in 2013. Nigeria could not pay their part of the money which was 15%.

But Buhari renegotiated the deal.

The Ikere Gorge Dam that was abandoned can generate close to 4000MW; I wonder why nobody is talking about it. FG needs to revisit this project.

Very unwise comment from you, they are other ways to generate revenue apart from oil, agriculture is also coming up, even we in the nd delta have started tinking beyond oil, uduaghan started the delta beyond oil campaign and its working fine. Our dependency on oil will reduce over the years.

For 4.5 Billion USD, Ethiopia will be getting 6,000 megawatts from the Renaissance dam. Nigeria wants to get 3,000 Megawatts with 5 Billion USD investment. Fashola will always take a cut like he did for his trains.
