klawaaa: They apply to as many schools as it takes to get a confirmed offer. You can post the question here, but you will not get any funding here! |

Hello guys, i am relatively new to Nairaland, and it has been quite a toil trying to figure out a good choice for a PhD program in medical Physics or biophysics or something related to it, preferably in the US or Canada with or w/o GRE & TOEFL (preferably without). I have a BSc and MSc in Physics from Nigerian Universities at GPAs (of 5.0) of 2.72 and 3.73 at both levels. Please any information on cheap and maybe funded universities in these countries would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Emmynex: Say it loud and clear, My GPA is poor... It will take divine intervention, some mad as.s SOP and some gaga GRE scores to get you anywhere near any decent school for a PhD. I am not putting you down take it as a challenge, get on with the GRE now!!! |

Emmynex: Now write your GRE and bag at least 320, resources/materials for writing GRE can be found somewhere on this thread. Apply to at least 4 schools please spread your risk 1 Excellent/ambitious school ( e.g University of Texas, Austin, University of Minnesota, University of Notre Dame , US news can help with that) 2 mid tier universities ( Kansas state, university of Kentucky, University of Mississippi etc) here you can fancy your chances, and 1 safe school ( Ball state university, bowling green state university etc). You will get into at least one or two, with God on your side funding too... BTW the schools I mentioned are just pointers, the responsibility of researching your school choices is solely yours. See you at the top bro 3 Likes 1 Share |

klawaaa: Why not? It is very possible. It's depends on the combination of your profile and choice of school/research area. By profile, I mean ur cgpa, GRE and TOEFL scores, statement of purpose and references. Some department allows u to view faculty research publication for criticism like university of Houston mechanical engineering. Generally, if u have a good review a staff publication and report to him by email, you will surely be loved. That is necessary for research funding. For very good profile like mikky4all, he can bag a fellowship with good test scores. That means he doesn't hv to work for anyone or do anything to get that money. |
