Buhari Reacts To David Cameron’s Corruption Comment On Nigeria by maupe: 7:40pm On May 10, 2016

The Nigerian Presidency on Tuesday said it found as “embarrassing” a statement credited to the UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, describing Nigeria as a “fantastically corrupt” country.
In a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Garba Shehu, shortly after the news of the Prime Minister’s comment went viral on the Internet, the presidency said, “This is embarrassing to us, to us say the least, given the good work that the President is doing, Mr. Buhari said. “The eyes of the world are on what is happening here.”
The presidency argued that the “Prime Minister must be looking at an old snapshot of Nigeria. Things are changing with corruption and everything else.”
The statement, however, welcomed the remarks by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who said President Buhari was not corrupt.
“Thank you to the Archbishop. We have great admiration for the good relationship between our two countries,” the presidency said.
Mr. Cameron was caught on camera ridiculing Nigeria as a “fantastically corrupt” country on Tuesday afternoon.
In the short footage, published by British television station, ITV News, Mr. Cameron told the British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, that Nigeria and Afghanistan are “two of the most corrupt countries in the world”.
Mr. Cameron’s comment was published just as President Muhammadu Buhari departed Nigeria Tuesday to attend an anti-corruption summit organised by the UK government to be held in London on Thursday.

Mr. Cameron was briefing the Queen on the notoriety of countries expected to attend the summit during an event at the Buckingham Palace to celebrate the monarch’s 90th birthday, ITV News reported.
Mr. Welby, however, said Mr. Buhari is not a corrupt person.
“But this particular president is actually not corrupt,” the religious leader said. “Oh yes, he’s trying very hard this one.”

Nice response Mr. President.

This is a President.

Long live the Sage of Daura.

Long live PMB.

Cameron should get off his high horse. We all know who is harbouring the loots of the looters. Both the looter and the keeper of the loots are all thieves.

I agree with you completely. This response from the presidency is too weak and watery. They should have just kept quiet if they know they have nothing meaningful to say. Transparency international did a better job of responding to Cameron's statement.

All in all, we should all support the president's war on corruption, that's the only way to correct the country's battered image globally. Our youths who support corrupt political leaders for political, ethnic and religious reasons should desist forthwith.

Well, can you really blame him??

PDP's legacy lives on. Even on the forum, their minions scream "BringBackCorruption" leaving the likes of Cameron with no choice.

support one-sided fight against corruption?

What happened to those who padded our budget?

Did rat ate up the petitions written to EFCC about how amaechi and fashola stole their state blind?

What killed timipreye silver's case at EFCC?

When will buhari and his EFCC lap dog probe source of his campaign funds from states that were owning civil servants at that time?

Till your hypocritical buhari answer these simple question don't expect us to take him serious.

You can't jail people for padding the budget because they have not stolen any money in the real sense. Budget padding is just preparing the ground for future corruption. You can only take administrative actions against such people and the president already did that. He sacked the DG of the budget office and redeployed all the directors in the office. That's enough action for me.

On Fashola and Amaechi, it's the responsibilities of the government of Lagos and Rivers to investigate and prosecute them respectively. Buhari cannot do everything. Tell Wike and Ambode to do the needful, that's why they both have ministry of justice.

Buhari is a corrupt thief. The problem is that Nigerians don't know what corruption means.
We seem to have a warped idea of what corruption entails.

Ofcourse the Archbishop would say that, he's a Clergyman. He'll say Ǧ☺☺ϑ things about Hitler A̶̲̥̅̊Ω̴̩̩̩̥D̶̲̥̅̊ Saddam, if he had the chance. To the best of my knowledge, no minister was accused of supervising the budget padding. In fact, it was some of the ministers that complained during budget defence that the figures they have is different from the ones being disclosed by the national assembly committees.

Lamido's case was instituted during the GEJ administration, the Buhari government only continued with it. Ohakim and Akpabio are being investigated for partaking in the sharing of Dezianis election bribe funds. The funds that was shared belongs to the federal government.

So suswan too pertook in the dasuki gate?

Why didn't current EFCC continue with the probe of amaechi's government officials started before buhari came to power?

Above quote caught my attention. Not sure the Archbishop specifically mentioned Buhari or Nigeria in the video but assuming it's true it only means as much as our president is single out from us in this highly embarrassing remark, he is fine with it. Says a lot about his love for Nigerians. To him every Nigerian is corrupt except him. Not fair. Not true.

I don't know what's going on, but I find this David Cameron gist really funny.

Back to the matter though, I want to know: is the Presidency embarrassed because what Cameron said was a lie? Is this nation not fantastically corrupt? Has our own President not said worse things about his own country while outside its shores? Has he said something we haven't said of ourselves before?

Is it Cameron's statement that is truly the issue here, or the fact that Nigeria as a nation has poo pooed in church?

They are bloody hypocrites!!!
You say we steal money. Well how about your country that gladly receives stolen money. These guys are the facilitators of corruption.
If our leaders have nowhere to hide ill-gotten wealth then they won't steal in the first place.
