Fact is Carrick has always struggled against a physical and pacy side. He has been OK though but age is no longer on his side cos he's losing even the passing accuracy he is hailed for. If we're going to play quick football then he and Blind should take the bench.

Maybe time to say farewell, same with Rooney(don't even know what this one is currently good at).
The reality is we don't even have players who are better!
The midfield as whole needs totally overhaul.
My fear is if Arsenal gets Kante and Xhaka, that would be one hell of a midfield.
Just look at this:
.............Xhaka.......
.........Kante........Ozil........
We need these players even more than Arsenal needs them.
With a good striker and a winger on the right, Arsenal would simply walk the league.

Horrible game from Daley Blind. Fosu Mensah would have assisted Mike Smalling better with the high balls flying around. Loius couldn't muster enough sense to make the change.
Horrid half for M. Schneiderlin, Michael Carrick wasn't much better.
Wayne Rooney neither here nor there, couldn't pop shots at goal when chances opened up.

Anthony Martial, Rashford, Juan Mata, Big Dave and Smalling had good games. Manchester United actually played short six men.

They should please SACK THAT COACH after the cup final. Jose Mourinho will not have unlimited funds and keep scraping for fourth position every year.

Diademk07:

If you make more passes irrespective of your failed passes or made few failed passes out of the little passes you made, you're likely to have high pass percentage.

Does this your statement make sense to you?

Take for instance:

1. If your pass accuracy is 80%

If you make 10 passes, 8 will be accurate.
If you make 20 passes 16 will be accurate.
If you make 30 passes 24 will be accurate.
If you make 50 passes 40 will be accurate.
If you make 80 passes 64 will be accurate.
If you make 110 passes 88 will be accurate.

The one who has had 24 accurate passes out of 30 total passes has the same accuracy as the one who had 64 out of 80

2. If your pass accuracy is 70%

If you make 10 passes, 7 will be accurate.
If you make 20 passes 14 will be accurate.
If you make 30 passes 21 will be accurate.
If you make 50 passes 35 will be accurate.
If you make 80 passes 56 will be accurate.
If you make 110 passes 77 will be accurate.

In the above, in a any combination you pick, player 1 has helped his team to gain better ball possession than player 2. Yesterday just before half time, the commentor said 'Rooney has been the only bright star in the United side.' And he did better in second half.
Let me tell you, Carrick is a player who consistently makes a high pass accuracy, followed by Mata, irrespective of whether they make high or low number of passes. For Carrick to have that poor accuracy meant he didn't find it easy. Although it was a tight pitch.

The aforementioned players weren't holding players though.
When Alonso was at Madrid, His task was to mark Messi runs while Khedira was tasked with marking Xavi and Iniesta. Ozil was tasked with Busquets.
Holding midfielders don't mark no 8.

You don't know position. You don't know the modern numbering. Your football knowledge is very crude, hence the difficulty in arguing with you.

So in a whole season, Alonso was task to mark Messi in 50 games? Where also did Modric and Di Maria play? You used holding midfield, defensive midfielder and box to box midfield haphazardly. One wouldn't know what you mean, and which position do you think is number 8?

Defensive midfielder (DM) is number 4 which Carrick played yesterday. Central midfielder is number 8 who moves box to box, like what Rooney played. Central attacking midfielder is number 10 who plays in the hole behind the striker.

A DM is most likely to check the opposing CM or/and AM. Principally he is to check the CM while one of the central defenders check AM while approaching the box. A DM cannot check a DM which is what you suggested in your first post on the issue. Carrick was most likely to face Yaya Toure, Lampard, etc.

Mensah was very poor against Lukaku. He didn't even make the bench yesterday. That was not a match for babies. Some of these boys need to mature.

Carrick or Alonso has no job following a box-box 8 around. They would lose their positional discipline if they do any stup!d things like that. Their work is mark out a no 10 like Ozil or inverted forwards/false 9 strikers who drop deep. That was why people kept saying Casiemiro had Messi in his pockets some months ago or when pundits applauded Busquets of keeping Ozil quiet.
It's the work of the likes of Modric/Khedira/Di-Maria to mark out Xavi and iniesta movement because they themselves are always wandering around and not Alonso.

Even what you posted shows that the more the passes you made, the higher is your pass percentage.
For example, a person who made 10 failed passes out of 50 still have the same accuracy as someone who made 4 failed passes out of 20.

You don't follow people around. There is a midfield battle. Then there is a defending of the own third.

In the midfield battle, you are going to see a box to box midfielder like Ramsey, Yaya Toure come at Carrick. Ramires would even go at central defender. Same with Wilshere if he plays in CM.

In defending final third, the two central defenders usually keep the striker between them so that one could be free. But once the attack is going into the box, it's no longer the duty of the DM to continue tracking the opposing number 10 into the box, one of the defenders will take responsibility.

There are other time when opponent play two strikers. If the DM keep tracking one of the attacking players, he will never be able to start an attack for his own team by invoving in midfield build up.

This is the dumbest post I have seen on this thread this year. So someone who made 20 passes and still have four of them failed has some better than someone who contributed 40 accurate passes at same accuracy in same match? You be Olodo.

Using your logic, Scholes, Carrick, Valencia, Mata who usually have highest number of passes with highest accuracies are the worst passers in our team. We should rather praise Mephis, Lingard, Falcao, Butner, etc who hardly attempt passes, thereby coming up with least misplaced passes.

My friend, the one who gives highest number of passes with best accuracy is the one controlling the game. Forget the number of misplaced passes.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 3:01pm On May 11, 2016

According to Diademko7, number of inaccurate passes (failed) should be looked at to determine how a player can pass, not accuracy. If that is the case, Blind, Mata, Carrick and Valencia are our worst passers this season.

Screenshot 1 shows the number of failed short passes (innacurate short passes)

Screenshot 2 is for failed long passes.

Martial and DDG are the only ones who make things happen for us on d pitch. And we really need to get rid of LVG ASAP if not both of em would start considering leaving us if things dont get better soon.

The guy has fantastic vision, passing skills including long passes and good technique to boot. Not to mention his positional discipline and anticipation are top notch.

You're a dummy.
You mentioned that Rooney had higher percentage than Carrick of which I stated that it's probably due to the plenty of passes he made in the full match unlike Carrick who came on in the second half.

Be sincere, did you pass your JSSCE?

Januzaj came on in the second half and still made 100%.

Paul Scholes used to have the highest total passes and highest pass accuracy. Would you say because he had more passes than anyone else that was why he was our best passer?

Made 1 pass and completed it? So?
If he has had 1 complete pass out of 2, it would have been 50% pass accuracy.

But bros how does that affect pass accuracy?
Schneiderlin made fewer passes (22) compared to the Carrick but still had a higher percentage I.e pass accuracy than Carrick.
Adnan made just one pass and his accuracy was 100 %.
So both people that made more passes than Carrick and people that made fewer passes than him all still had a higher pass accuracy than him.

Pass accuracy is a percentage , making more passes or making fewer passes does not guarantee a higher or a lower pass accuracy.

You keep goofing. The more passes made, the more likely there are going to be both failed and successful/completed ones.

The percentage of pass accuracy is proportional to the number of completed passes not attempted passes.

Therefore, having more passes doesn't necessarily give a player higher pass accuracy.

That is not correct.

Schweinsteiger makes the highest number of passes. But we have about 8 players with higher pass accuracy than Schweinsteiger.

Schneirderlin
Valencia
Mata
Carrick
Shaw
Januzaj
Pereira
Wilson.

Blind with second highest passes per match is 15th in pass accuracy. Stop telling us lies jor.

Since Carrick makes more ambitious passes than Schneiderlin, I don't even see why I should even compare him but I'm doing that with Rooney for obvious reason.
