This should have been done four years ago and the harsh effects of the removal would have long petered out. But the then opposition played on the vulnerability of Nigerians to being led by the nose to hurl abuses at the government which later forced the government to rescind its decision. What was thought unfit then is what the APC government is about to do....The truth must be told, fuel subsidy has to go. It was a military policy to enrich some few oil marketers to the detriment of the masses. Now that no one has kicked a fuss about the removal, I hope Nigerians, especially the so called intellectuals , will learn to view issues objectively rather than allow their hearts to rule their brain.

Honestly you deserve a bottle of red label from me.

If present crop of Ruler who opposed fuel subsidy removal four years ago are now preparing to remove it when all conditions for removal as proposed by them then are yet to be met, I see myself and majority of Nigerians that supported them then as having been fooled to enable a new cabal climb to power

Is there any guarantee that the money saved from subsidy removal will be used judiciously by the government officials (APC or PDP) for what the saved funds ought to be used for? Wouldn't this end up as one of those situations where promises are made and not fulfilled eventually?
This is a hypothetical question that I can't answer. But the policy of subsidising fuel has only enriched a few to the detriment of the masses. The payment of subsidy was a ploy by the military to put money in the pockets of those who helped them to power and kept them there. It has had no profound benefit on the common man.

You are wrong. The matter of subsidy removal was never about how the money was going to be spent. APC just seized the moment to whip the masses into a frenzy. People simply didn't understand why we should pay more for petrol in a country that has crude oil, and nobody wanted to hear anything.
Even the cerebral Fashola advocated for a reduction in pump price since the price of crude oil had gone down. Now he is in government, he has gone silent.
me opposing it then was cos of management. Maybe u can outline what jona achieved from the partial savings he did. Even surep chairman had to resign cos of too much corruption. Buhari already mapped out infrasture revamp as main things his govt will focus on. N i still av much trust in him dan jona.

remove subsidy, deregulate the petroleum sector, long overdue. license capable investors to run modular refineries in the niger delta and environs, everywhere possible, with time we will not only have enough fuel, we will begin to export it heavily, create more jobs.

As an apc supporter I still personally would like to apologise to the former president Goodluck Jonathan on this subsidy issue. Now I have known better. The position I formally took was against subsidy removal. Doing away with such a scheme was actually the right thing to do. but lack of trust for the past goverment made a lot of Nigerians protest against such a move.

and this government has given you reasons to trust them?

Pray tell, how so?

I don't doubt the integrity and political will of General Buhari. He has earned my trust with the way he has gone after bokoharam and I beleive if He maintains the same political will. other issues like corruption and the economy will feel some measure of change.

Same integrity when he questioned the existence of fuel subsidy in the first place
