Gov. El-rufai, Opponent Of Subsidy Removal In 2012, Reacts To Petrol Price Hike by PhockPhockMan: 8:50pm On May 12, 2016
Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has appealed for calm a day after the federal government scrapped fuel subsidy and increased the price of petrol from N86.50 to N145 a litre.
Mr. El-Rufai was a prominent voice against a similar policy in 2012 when the former administration of Goodluck Jonathan announced removal of subsidy and petrol price increase.
The announcement, Wednesday, by the minister of state for petroleum, Ibeh Kachikwu, has generated controversy.
Many Nigerians have condemned the price hike, and have questioned the sincerity of politicians who opposed the policy in the past, but, as members of the present administration, are in support of the latest decision.
In what appeared his first response, through a Kaduna State government statement, Mr. El-Rufai urged calm and praised the orderly response of Kaduna people to the new policy.
“The Kaduna State Government wishes to appeal for calm. It commends the people for the orderly response to the fuel price adjustment by the Federal Government, and requests their continued patience for the supply of petroleum products to improve,” the statement said.
The statement also spoke on the arrest of beggars in the state.
Mr. El-Rufai said the prohibition of begging law will not take effect until after 60 days.
The statement added that it is the police that is currently undertaking arrests within Kaduna as part of security operations directed by the Inspector General of Police.
“The Kaduna State Government has not directed the police to enforce the begging law, which is not due to come into force yet. Malam Nasir El-Rufai has repeatedly stated that rehabilitation opportunities would be offered for the disabled. The State Executive Council has just approved a Disability Policy, which is a necessary precursor to the drafting of any bill or other measures to promote the rights of the disabled.
“However, the Kaduna State Government is not in a position to impede security operations that are adjudged necessary by the security agencies.
“As part of preparations for the regional security summit, the Police Commands of States within the neighbourhood of Abuja which includes Kaduna, Niger and Nasarawa states and the FCT, are undertaking security operations. This includes actions to remove street beggars, hawkers and all abandoned vehicles along the major roads.
“These police actions have nothing to with the Kaduna State Government. The government is engaging with the police on behalf of all residents of the state, including the disabled, for a proper management of the situation,” the statement said.

It seems these people have forgotten about the oil cabals. These people (kachikwu and co) thinks that these importers will flood the market with enough supplies and den bring in competition to crash the prices? This man is on a long thing, this N145 is just for NNPC.

These cabals will import and hoard so that NNPC's 50% will be insufficient thereby bringing about scarcity again and then they will bring out their goods @ inflated prices, the FG and the masses will have no choice than to buy @ whatever price, they will form a union to milk the country dry, who no like money?

This government is the most incompetent set of people, they just don't consult b4 implementing any plan of theirs, always making mistakes with people's lives @ stake. Why do u have all the ministers, personal assistance, special advisers and many other bodies if u still make mistakes upon mistakes? Naija, here we are, N145 it is, but I can't wait for 2019 to come.

1. NNPC imports petrol via agents appointed by Buhari who are mainly drawn from his family, friends and close confidants.

2. NNPC agents source forex for fuel imports from the CBN at the official rate of 199 naira per dollar.

3. Round tripping and diversion of forex ends up in the black market where the forex is sold at 325.

4. NNPC does not have the infrastructure in terms of fuel depots at both the Apapa and Tin Can ports to meet Nigeria's daily consumption.

5. Prior to this regime, fuel tankers offloaded their contents on a daily basis in Lagos ports.

6. With the forex scarcity and refusal of the govt to come to terms with compensating for the foreign exchange cost, most if not all independent marketers stopped importing.

7. This leads to only a trickle of 2 or 3 tankers a week offloading their contents in Lagos- a drastic drop when compared to when independent marketers where importing.

8. NNPC agents appointed by Buhari also fleece the govt by falsely claiming subsidies on imports as well as declaring arrival of none existing tankers at Lagos ports.

9. The govt then decides to allow independent marketers import and sell well above the official price in order to meet the shortfall.

10. The govt insists that independent marketers must source for forex outside the CBN. Thus marketers will get forex at as today at 345 naira per dollar, while the NNPC agents will still have access to forex at 199.

11.why then will NNPC sell at 145 naira?

12. This means NNPC will be making a wider profit margin than independent marketers if fuel retails at 145 naira per litre at their stations.

So in a nutshell, NNPC will now be making more profit at 145 if they still source forex at 199 as against independent marketers who have to pay 345 naira to a dollar.

This then implies that a state owned corporation will be making more profit than private firms.
We should also ask the minister of petroleum the cost of refining a litre of fuel at their refineries.

Is the cost of refining a litre of fuel by the NNPC up to 145 naira per litre?

Can imported fuel which includes landing cost plus forex compensation be cheaper than NNPC locally refined fuel?

I for one know that the current pricing in effect is meant to pave way for Dangote's refinery which will soon begin operation by mid 2017.

This is exactly how Dangote created a monopoly of rice imports during the Obasanjo era by chasing the only main competitor ( Vaswani brothers) to his then upcoming fledging empire .

This new pricing regime is meant to make serious money for buhari and his cronies through a skewed forex regime and also to pave way for Dangote's supremacy in the downstream sector.

Change is for daft foolish myopic zombies

This is the fate zombies like you are clamouring for with your blind fanatical support for your stubborn arrogant bigoted sectional president

The legacy of your APC govt will be Nigeria's final balkanization.

Keep fanning the embers of discord with your crass sychophancy.

Nah, that will be crediting him with too much and expecting him to perform contrary to his nature. You can almost always predict his response or reaction to a subject because he's hooked on an inexhaustible supply of misplaced self-importance and the 'my-candidate-defeated-yours' syndrome.

People are forced to deal with obvious gaffes and wicked parasitism on an already deprived populace in the name of governance yet when they complain or criticize he just can't get head out of his butt long enough to realise that this is no longer campaign or election but real destruction by the APC as a cover for unprecedented corruption going on with the full knowledge and approval of Buhari.

So no, there'll be no attempt at reevaluation, his usual pompous and myopic response borne out of inebriated intoxication on Buhari's so called 'integrity' will once again soil your mention or the thread itself.

El-Rufai and his other cohorts who are now calling for calm didn't make such calls in 2012. Rather, they engaged in rabble-rousing and stirred up mass resentment against Jonathan for cheap political gain.
They deliberately heated up the polity and incited Nigerians to take up arms against the government. That was why soldiers were deployed in Lagos.
Now that they are taking the nation down that rejected path, they want Nigerians to queue behind them without a voice of protest.
