EgunMogaji:That's the Gospel truth They don't,it all depends on its usage, if you are into transport then ur thread will go down quicker to the markers and warn faster.Michelin actually stated that there is NO expiry date, however one should check their tyres regularly. So I'm trying to get my head round where this fuzz at |

plendil: Directional (unidirectional) Directional tire tread features a large V-shaped pattern with large spaces or grooves between the tread blocks. The grooves improve hydroplaning resistance at high speeds by siphoning water more efficiently through the tread making these tires ideal for performance and ultra-high performance applications. Tires with directional tread are designed to roll in one direction and have an arrow on the sidewall of the tire that shows which way the tires should roll. They are meant to be rotated front-to-back (and vice versa) but not side-to-side because of the directional design. Vehicles equipped with different size tires on the front and rear (staggered), prohibit the ability to rotate directional tires unless they are remounted. |

EgunMogaji: Wow!! ITs amazing just how ignorant one can be about such things. Thanks a lot! I've really learnt a lot from this thread! Just a quick follow question: I did a check on my tires but coudnt see any sign/symbol indicating the direction of of rotation. I guess its safe to say it can rotate in either direction? i.e its only unidirectional tires that have the direction sign. 1 Like |

erico2k2: Thanks for this, too. I was particularly surprised about the advice to rotate the tires after a while to sure even wear. But I guess this would only apply if all tires were procured at the same time? |

plendil: Correct. The senator was rolling on unidirectional and rolling the wrong direction and that tire was the one that exploded. It's also interesting to note that all tires on my bikes are unidirectional. It's that performance oriented. 1 Like

In general, it is said that maximum 6 years is there for tires . Some of the premium brands like Michelin does states that they don't have a expiry date but gives a precautionary measure to definitely change it after 10 years. Depending on what kind of road you drive, your driving conditions, your tyres might not run that long. Better not wait for that long, and keep it checking tyres thoroughly after every 6 years as the price of the tyres is still cheaper than your life. This is also the reason why tyres should be taken care properly. You can learn and read from the Michelin website. https://africa.michelin.com/en/auto/tips-and-advice/advice-auto |
