Still wondering how some of ya'll got 7 and above in writing. I have written ielts twice now (my mistake, wrote the ordinary one first before i found out i needed to write one for UKVI) and i have only managed a 6.5 in the writing. The second one came out nice, 8.5 in both the reading and listening and 7.0 in the speaking. Anyways, Just tot i should add a few more tips. 1. ieltsbuddy.com is probably the best website for you. They will help you through everything. I suggest you head there first before practicing with the materials. 2. For the speaking test, apart from the tips on the ieltsbuddy website, Make sure you get there on time. You will meet other applicants so strike up a conversation with one of them. For someone like me who doesn't speak english always, i was able to sort of 'warm up'. When i got in, it was uphill from there. 3. For the Listening. You will only hear the recording once so please, don't think about that girl you straffed yesterday or that fine boy inside the bus on your way to the center. If you lose concentration just for a few seconds, you will find yourself a couple of answers short. It is pretty easy to get a 9.0 here. 4. For the reading, they have a lot of long ass piece for you to read. I am used to reading and enjoying center spreads of newspapers so it was nothing . Try to enjoy the story/article. That is the best way to really understand it. The questions are also in the order the passage is written so the next answer is in the next paragraph and you don't have to remember where an answer is or start looking throughout the entire passage to answer the next question. 5 As for the writing, there are enough tips on the website and there are enough written examples towards the end of the materials posted on here (Go back to like the first couple of pages). If you are not dumb as i am, you should probably get something higher than i did. IELTS has one golden rule though, Always read the instructions. See heh, failing to do that singular thing almost guarantees that you will pile 4.0s in all bands. Writing has minimum number of words to be written for both sections. Anything less than that and you are done. Reading and listening has the amount of words they are expecting for every answer. If the section says 'Only one Word' and you write more then one, sorry is your name oo.. If the instructions says not more than two words from the passage and you write something else. Bro, you are on your own. I hope this helps sha. If you need anything else, Holla, If i can help, I will always help. Also if you are applying to study in a UK university, Please register for IELTS for UKVI instead oo.. It is more expensive and only online payment is accepted (last time i checked) 7 Likes 1 Share |

ace19:go to the bank and raise a bank draft in favour of british council (52k, but bank too will charge u o, something around 525 naira). the only thing i think the bank will need is any form of id (drivers licence, national id card, int passport etc). You then send the bank draft with a copy of data page of ur international passport and a print out of the mail you recieved after applying online to the nearest british council office. note that you have 5 working days after the day you registered online to pay, else ur online booking will be cancelled 1 Like 2 Shares |

girlonfire: Are you applying to a UK school, then you will need to write another one buh before you do, tell you school. They might just put in your cas that they have assessed your level of English and found it suitable instead of listing the IELTS document in your cas. If they can do the first one, you will need your original waec result. If not, you will have to write another one. |

Yay! so I am going to share my experience and result. Overall Band 8.0 Listening 8.5 Reading 8.5 Writing 7.0 Speaking 7.5 It was really easy thanks to God so dont panic. People may have had bad results but just tell yourself that your case will be different. Practice and understand the model for writing at ieltsbuddy.com i just looked at it a night to my test and I scored well. I dont know what I would have done if I didnt. Thank God. Then for listening, try to be attentive and calm. with much practice, you will know how to concentrate and answer questions. For reading, practice and time yourself in your practice. reading is a bit technical because there is no model way of doing it. I read my questions before passage and some do it the other way round. the most important thing is being able to know the answers. when you practice, you will learn how to get answers that were not outrightly stated in the passage. Speaking was very cool. The interviewer was very friendly. There was a bit of tension but I tried to focus on answering the questions. Some did not apply to me so I told him I have not had that experience but I also told him what I have heard about it or seen in movies. About the main topic to talk on, it really did not apply to me and i was distabilzed but my one minute to plan was counting. immediately it was up, the guy asked me to start talking. I just had to be creative and follow the guideline he gave. I tried to imagine it and I was able to talk. The most important thing here is you being able to fabricate a story and relay it to the interviewer. so your brain has to be creative and you have to be ready to speak directly from your creative thoughts. (this is if you have never had the experience they are asking) Overall it was a great. and thank God for it. 1 Like 1 Share |

Overall Band 8.0 same here....... Listening 8.5 Reading 8.5 Writing 7.5 Speaking 7.0 ------------------------ YouTube was most helpful for the listening. RoadToIELTS was most helpful for the reading. For the writing, I just winged it. For the speaking i probably talked too much. YouTube Speaking Test videos were nonetheless helpfull too. --------------------- But if you really do wanna get a high band score in the IELTS exam, I think the easiest sections to rake in marks are in the Listening and Reading sections because the answers are defined and objective. For the writing and speaking sections however, it all depends on the test examiner so it's subjective. Aside that you got to practice to make perfect and get to the exam center on time for a relaxed and worthwhile performance. As IELTS continues to remind us, there's no failure in the Ielts test. But the schools or immigration authority don't wanna hear it. If it ain't above an overall band of 5.0 or 6.5 you gotta do the bank draft once more. So it does depend on you mate. #justsaying girlonfire: 1 Like 1 Share

Weird2016: Really? It's not quite bad of a result. I'm preparing to write next month. I registered late May. I haven't ventured into Reading yet, but I used to see it as a Herculean task. I'm quite surprised people ace it high above Listening, Writing and Speaking. Could you help with some tips that'll help overcome my fears and get a high make within the shortest time frame. Thanks. |

Luggi007: 1. Visit https://www.britishcouncil.org.ng/exam/ielts-uk-visa-immigration 2. Fee is 64K 3. The questions are the same. 4. You can take your bank draft to the British Council office in PH, on Olu Obasanjo Road, GRA Phase 2 5. I believe there is a specific centre in Ikoyi, Lagos. They will send you the address by email before the test. 6. 13 days after the test. |
