All I care about the deregulation is how monies saved from it will be injected into the economy effectively

And for those saying Jonathan wasn't allowed to deregulate....maybe you don't get he was fantastically corrupt, because he had no idea stealing was corruption

Can you imagine the arrogant way Buhari addresses Nigerians through his Information Minister cum propaganda-in-chief?

I really pity my country.

Yes there is an alternative Mr. Lai....and the alternative is not rocket science.

The alternative is to make us self sufficient in refining and also provide steady power supply. Provide these alternatives and let's see if there will be a be need to subsidize.

For the next couple of years, Nigerians brace yourselves for some hard times...all I see is every body talking about importing petrol, no one is talking though on local refining to meet our consumption.

I weep for my country.
if the government can channel the gains of the subsidy removal into building local refineries, then I think it will be better. So let's see how they will use the money

Millz404:
As difficult as it is, deregulation is the best option right now instead of promises to end scarcity we all know can't be achieved.

Competition in the long run will force the price down, if all that subsidy money is channeled to getting the 3 refineries we have working to full capacity, licensing private refineries and hopefully the "coming soon" dangote's refinery. This will reduced the pressure on the already dwindled foreign reserve or wherever it is they are getting it from as more of the product will be refined locally.

If measures are not put in place to achieve the above then "competition" might end up having little impact on price reduction as scarcity of foreign exchange will push the price of the dollar up and by extension raise the cost of production. Irrespective of the level of competition, nobody is going to sell below "cost price"

Diversification should also be pursued headlong..... Not promising Eldorado and achieving far below reasonable expectation.
Hahahahaha!
I bet you that the 3 government refineries won't work but there'll be a private refinery doing good and that will be only Dangote... There'll be no competition brother but the monopoly which Dangote has been enjoying is gonna extent to the oil aspect...
If you refuse to learn then you are prepared for failure!
No one can deceive me again with some political nonsense

VERY STUPID ARGUMENT.
Akposkool:

INDEFINITE STRIKE IS A SCAM THAT RISKS CAUSING IRREPARABLE DAMAGE!

Don't Let NLC /TUC Deceive You Again. It was 1st, January, 2012 when NLC /TUC sold our rights, sold our freedom, sold our emancipation and sold our efforts to liberate Nigeria. The former, Presidents of NLC /TUC deceived us and they failed in their responsibilities as leaders. Orman and Esele went to Aso Rock Villa to collect their shares of national cake and left Nigerians in total disappointment then. The issue of pump price increment would have been a thing of the past but NLC /TUC sold out.

The present NLC /TUC Presidents, Ayuba and Kangama are the faces of major Marketers in Nigeria that is why they are fighting their course using civil service platform. The so called marketers are the sponsors and financiers of these Unions when it comes to elect their leaders and they determine who to be what and what or who to be the President.

I am using this platform to appeal to Nigerians to ignore their call and not to follow them like fools because they will trade you with the Federal government when the time comes for negotiations. Therefore, be warned. These are questions I want to ask from NLC /TUC Presidents.

1. How the subsidy affect the lives of masses?
2. Who is collecting the subsidy?
3. How faithful are marketers to federal government?
4. For how long government will continue to pay subsidy?
5. Why don't you mobilize workers to protest against none payment of salary?
6. Why don't you lead a protest against Nigerian Senators /Reps to enact law for capital punishment against any corrupt politicians?
7. Why don't you lead a protest against Nigerian Senators and Reps to reduce their jumbo pay?

Nobody can deceive us again, nobody can fool us, nobody can mobilize us against the government of President Buhari and nobody can use us to make money from government because we have learned from previous scenario in 2012. We say 'No' to protest, No to political motivated protest and NO to fuel subsidy in Nigeria. Nigerians are wise nobody can fool us again.

God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria.

ABUJA, January 02, (THEWILL) - The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) said the inscrutable fuel subsidy removal, at a time the country is facing its most- potent internal security threat ever, has exposed the limitations of President Goodluck Jonathan as a leader and heightened the need for elder statesmen to come to his rescue, before he brings the house crashing down on all. In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said no one needs a soothsayer to know that the removal of fuel subsidy and the lingering Boko Haram threat are a potent mix that can push the country to the precipice in this New Year. It therefore called on the National Assembly, as the true representatives of the people, not to betray those who elected them - as President Jonathan has done - and also on Organized Labour not to abandon the people, their constituency, adding: ''Both the National Assembly and Organized Labour must act to stop the subsidy removal.'' ACN said that while the Boko Haram crisis is a clear and present danger to Nigeria, the Jonathan Administration's shock fuel subsidy removal, despite opposition from most Nigerians, is like pouring fuel on a naked fire, the end of which will definitely not be pleasant for anyone. ''Our democracy and indeed the very survival of our nation are in peril, perhaps at a level equalling the civil war period. The PDP government at the centre, through a combination of incompetence, lack of direction and meaningless headiness, has allowed the Boko Haram crisis to fester instead of moving quickly to nip it in the bud. ''As if that were not enough, President Jonathan has gone ahead to instigate a fresh crisis, by hearkening to the voices of agents of the Bretton Woods Institutions instead of the voices of Nigerians who elected him. Removing the non-existent fuel subsidy at a time the majority of the population are barely surviving and the ranks of jobless youths is swelling negates the aphorism that when you are in a hole, you stop digging. The dislocation in social order that the fuel subsidy removal will engender will definitely strengthen the hands of the Boko Haram endgamers

Yes Alhaji Lai Muhammed but you have allowed the Nigerians you claimed to love to suffer for 16 years, do you you remember that you and your party had been standing against the removal during the previous governments? You have to be saying all these with apology and soberness of heart rather than saying it as if you are wiser than us.

and they keep contradicting themselves, thought PYO said price hype wasn't subsidy removal..

BTW they deregulated it and still fixed price, aren't they jokers? l think there is something we have not been told over this matter

the masses have to suffer for the economy which they allowed to crumble to rise,,we are always to bear while they are to enjoy

for over a year they keep telling us to be patient that the hardship will end without being specific when they tend to end it

if this govt has PhD in lying and fooling people I'm one of those they can never fool, l have completely given up on them,,they are a fantastically definition of failure
