Nigeria is a mono-export economy.

Most Nigerian agriculture is internally consumed. Feeding 170m people amounts to a lot of $.

Simple illustration - if Nigeria produces 2m barrels per day at $50 per barrel with no value added downstream, Oil GDP contribution per day will be $100m.

Meanwhile if 170m Nigerians eat meals worth $1 each per day, and all of the food is produced in Naija, GDP contribution per day for agric will be $170m.

Still, prior to GDP rebasing in 2013, oil contributed nearly 50% of GDP. The rebasing of GDP reduced oils percentage contribution by increasing telecoms, agric sector etc which Iweala claimed was not properly captured in the past. I take the new GDP figures with a small pinch of salt.
