sorry I don't mean to be rude....where did you get this knowledge from? are you a petroleum engineer or environmentalist?

oil spill which occurs offshore can CE worse than onshore, you have to factor in that almost 10× what is produced onshore can be gotten offshore. the risk both human and capital is high for offshore.

please be sure of what you post here so you don't pass the wrong information to people. the top worst oil spills witnessed on earth are offshore. DO YOU REMEMBER "GULF OF MEXICO" SPILL BP AND US GOVERNMENT.

Again offshore spill is not easily detected and most times the oil coys try to hide the information from weak governments like in Africa..am sure of Mobil in Akwa-ibom. Making it easy for them to maneuver around. offshore spills are very expensive to deal with.
The guy has little knowledge about petroleum engineering and environmental pollution. Oil spillage on offshore platforms destroys all the habitat in the water. Billions of dollars would be lost. It takes many years to clean the oil spillage.

Lagos wouldn't have been like this if yorubas think all the biz must belong to Yoruba. Dangote is an hausa man and he will be be having one of the biggest refinery and fertilizer plant IN 2018. oil wells are not just dashed out, it was a bid. Why will I say because osun is producing cocoa then farmers must be from osun state alone or ondo indigenes must be the only one to mine bitumen. Even if na ibo man get that oil well in Lagos be rest assured yorubas won't even care.

You officially get sense.

They are shouting Hausa owns Oil Bloc as if they can afford one.

the topography of Badagry doesn't support oil formation as alluded. The future will reveal. If Ekiti Ondo even Osun is mentioned it would have been more realistic we will see..but i congratulate the Niger Deltan on this discovery if more states outside the region finds oil which day and night i pray for ondo and ekiti especially it sets the pace for resource control in full gear

It all depends on the people managing it. Tell that to the people of UAE, Qatar, Iran, Russia, and they'd tell you you're a mad man. cheesy

The oil is it commercial enough? Or is it just a political decision to tap into NDDC?

50,000 bbls a say is a joke when Nigerian output is 2 point something million bbls a day

The question you should ask yourself is, if it is not in commercial quantity why will they announce it so? You need to seek knowledge in this area......Let me keep it that simple

By the way if there as commercial oil in Badagry then the whites would have discovered it since around 1912 era..it's a pure waste of time and a desire to gain useless attention...

WHY IS THE 13% MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE OIL ITSELF? IF ACTUALLY OIL HAVE BEEN FOUND IN LAGOS,GOOD< BUT AT WHAT QUANTITY? FOR YOU TO JOIN THE 13% LEAGUE, THE OIL MUST BE EXPLORED, PROCESSED, AND SOLD FROM THERE YOU NOW TALK OF 13%. NOT WHEN YOU PRODUCE ONLY 10 BARRELS PER MONTH OF WHICH THE REVENUE IS LESS THAN 0,00% CONTRIBUTION TO THE COUNTRY GDP AND YOU ARE TALKING OF 13%.

NOW HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT ALL ODUDUWAS, THAT THE OIL FOUND IN LAGOS BELONGS TO JIGAWA? BE SINCERE.

HOW HAPPY WILL YOU BE THAT LETS SAY FOR EXAMPLE 20 OIL WELLS ARE FOUND IN LAGOS , THAT 15 BELONGS TO THE NORTHERNERS ? UNTIL YOU FEEL THE SHOES ON BIAFRANS, YOU WILL NOT UNDERSTAND THEIR PREDICAMENTS.

You started your writeup ignorantly and ended it rather weirdly. You're asking emotional questions that falls flat on reality
1. Obviously, you do not know how 13% derivation is calculated and allocated
2. For you and people with your line of thought, What Yinka Folawiyo company has done, is to say, after many years of exploration, they have found oil in commercial quantity and moving the the production stage. They have between 25-40years to drill more wells and stimulate the wells when they get weak to get more oil
3. Other Oil investors will take the data from YF and explore blocks in the same area for Oil. Oil is about exploration and finding. If any company has money, they can access it from the Shale if they like......

So wrt how will we feel...........
1. The Laws of Nigeria is clear. Anything below the ground and in littoral waters belong to the Federal Government
2. All the monies made in Lagos Ports is shared across Nigeria and there is no complaint
3. When Mineral resources in the North and West (Gold, Iron Ore etc) becomes commercial as the Fayemi-led Ministry is aggressively pursuing, the money will be shared by all Nigerians.....

An already polluted Lagos State will go under when real exploitation starts. Wait and see what oil does to communities. FGN takes the meat and leaves the bones for the owners. Welcome to environmental hazards.

Don't be hasty man.
Lagos have good environmental laws in place,
When it comes to civility in business SW is second to none,
And there are proper nations who have managed oil without distorting their lands,
The oil discovered in lagos is offshore which means everything is done on water not land.
And don't compare I majority ethnic group who has produce astute politicians and leaders in every stratosphere of the nation that can influence things their way. The numbers don't favor minority group of SS.

In my opinion, it is nothing to rejoice about.

Oil is not the profitable thing it once was...especially as prices are falling.

Besides, what we need in Lagos , and in Nigeria as a whole is a strong economy driven by homegrown innovation and manufacturing.

...and you think Oil will not give you that?

You need to be better educated in Oil and Gas business

lol, can you just post verifiable facts and stop beating about the bush.
Why would it be more viable to find oil in the hilly landscapes of Ekiti and Osun than coastal badagry?

@mapet Nice observation about the minerals sharing.During some studies i noticed Lagos has multiple minerals about 3 in large quantities,I learnt also Zamfara discovered serious reserves of limestone on and on and on..My challenge is why should people keep kicking against Resource control.About Lagos sharing ports revenue,if the Federal Govt gave the same commitment to have multiple ports for coastal regions from Ogun state through to Cross river so we have multiple ports that can hosts big vessels then the country as a whole will benefit...and not the shady rubbish the country is running...
