IYC wants ‘unfair allocation’ of oil blocks probed

The Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide on Monday warned that there would be more hostilities in the Niger Delta region unless President Muhammadu Buhari probes unfair allocation of oil blocks in the country.

The IYC President, Mr. Udengs Eradiri, gave the warning at a news conference at the Ijaw House, Yenagoa, as part of activities to celebrate this year’s Isaac Boro Day.

Many shops in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, were shut on Monday following a directive by the IYC that shop owners should not open for business as a mark of honour for Boro.

Eradiri’s warning came barely five days after the Niger Delta Avengers listed some oil blocks allegedly owned by former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; a former Minister of Defence, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma; ex-Minister of Petroleum, Alhaji Riwalnu Lukman; and other northerners and south-westerners in the region.

The NDA had among others issued them a two-week ultimatum to shut down operations at the oil blocks and evacuate their workers from the locations or have them attacked.

Eradiri said that the indiscriminate sharing of oil blocks were allegedly carried out when Buhari served as Petroleum minister or Head of State.

He accused the President of denying Niger Delta people ownership of oil blocks at the time while allegedly allocating same to his kinsmen and their cronies like a bazaar.

He said, “One of the most salient issues that if not addressed will lead to more crisis is the issue of the oil blocks.

“President Buhari was a one-time Petroleum minister and Head of State in this country. Let us go and do an assessment of that time. The time when criminally they shared our oil blocks was under his watch either as Petroleum minister or as Head of State. It is in one of those times.

“Oil blocks were shared to one group. Look at it, either the person (owner of oil bloc) was a former military president or a relative of the military president or an in-law to a military president.”

Eradiri insisted that the allocation of the oil blocks did not follow due process as outlined by the government.

He called for a review of the oil blocks to redress injustice that such a manipulated process had brought against oil-producing communities of the Niger Delta.

“And that is one of the biggest issues that if not addressed, there will be more Niger Delta Avengers, you will see groups and groups that will spring up until the issue is addressed,” he warned.

So the IYC are just waking up from their sleep? Why don't you raise this motion during the Era of late Yar'adua instead you allowed amnesty program, GEJ the son of the land was on same throne for six years the IYC was blind folded with maritime security that few criminals only benefited from.

Buhari belongs to everybody and I believe he will listen to you but you guys have to follow the right channel.

You are fighting corruption, still you allow nepotism in your administration. Nepotism is one of the worst corruption. In fact buhari you are worst than those that loot openly.

Bullshit.most of the viable oil blocks are owned by niger deltan chiefs and high ups.apart from danjuma, atiku, otedola and some few more, the remaining oil blocks to northerners and south west cost too much to drill, not economically viable and not in use.

Where are the sophisticated people?

Come and show your wealth of knowledge here and comment on this topic.

All the same I blame GEJ for not taking action. He should have ordered a completed revocation of all licenses issued to non-Niger Deltans and issued same to trust funds for and run/managed by the indigenes.

How strangers can lay claim to these oil blocks still remains an injustice that must be addressed.

Enough is Enough!!!!!

Buhary should do well by investigating himself and how the oil blocks were criminally shared and let justice be done.

Can you or the complainant give details of the blocks awarded by buhari in 1984?

Then you should give us the details of those awarded by GEJ and Diezani!!

If the last occupant whom you support, did not see it as injustice, why should Buhari?

On a more serious note, the majority of functioning Oil licences are in the hands of foreigners.

We have been hearing all these stories for donkey years even before their so called hero became President, even after his tenure we keep hearing these stories.

The Niger Delta folks are just too politically naive in maximising their opportunities even when they are given the whole world. Violence and threats seems to be what they know how to do best. What a pity

This is fair to be honest. I sincerely hope the figures being bandied about Northerners controlling more than 80% of oil blocks isn't true, otherwise it is a slap on southerners, most especially SS intelligence.

GEJ didn't give out tomatoe and rice farms in the north to southerners. Rather he encouraged them by subsidizing fertilizers and giving them free seedlings acquired with Niger Delta's oyel money.

That guy took patriotism to a whole new level and i hate him for that.

So you have become Buhari's spokesman to know that he belongs to everybody, in spite of his very obvious display of tribalism?
Even the British Foreign Minister observed recently that after almost one year in office, Buhari has not deemed it necessary to visit the South South region, a very important part of Nigeria from where Nigeria derives most of its revenue. He also has not visited the South East.
This guy has become the most divisive and sectional president of Nigeria so far. He is definitely not for everybody as you claimed.

There was nothing like oil well owners when and before Baba was head of state and finance minister instead we have oil majors who are foreign firms who help government run the oil industry then, the scam called oil well scam was/is brainchild of the father of your hero IBB who give it as gift to his friends, in law and allies which your hero follow his footsteps by dashing out oil well lease to his cronies Jide and co.

Nigerians currently own 52 per cent of the country’s 173 active oil blocs, while foreign oil companies own 48 per cent. He added that of the total of 388 oil blocks in the country, only 173 of them have been awarded to individuals and corporations, while 215 blocks were yet to be awarded. Broken further, of the 173 so far awarded, Nigerians owned 90 blocks while foreigners owned 83 blocks.
He, however, lamented that all the 90 blocks awarded to indigenous players account for only six per cent of the country’s total crude oil production, while the 83 awarded to foreign oil companies account for 94 per cent of the total output. Steering the hornets’ nest The Chairman, Senate Committee on Business and Rules, Senator Ita Enang, a forth night ago steered the hornets’ nest, when he alleged that 83 percent of Nigeria’s oil blocks were in the control of the northern region.
This led to a series of claims and counter claims by various groups in the different geographical regions in the country, including activists and non-governmental organisations, NGOs. Many even called for a review of oil block awards.
Even newspapers (not Vanguard) went agog with their own versions of the real oil block owners. However, DPR’s recent pronouncements on the issue that Nigerians own 80 oil bocks where foreigners had 83 have nullified every other previous pronouncements on the controversial oil blocks ownership, including the list of 77 oil blocks and their owners recently published by one of the dailies. Analysts are of the view that to end the controversy, the DPR should go a step further to publish the full list of the 173 oil blocks so far awarded, indicating who owned what, whether local or foreign.

Can you or the complainant give details of the blocks awarded by buhari in 1984?

Then you should give us the details of those awarded by GEJ and Diezani!!

So not coming to South-South automatically means his against the people of SS? The earlier the better we know that the British prime Minister his just fighting for his own people. Buhari is for everybody.

poseidon12:

So you have become Buhari's spokesman to know that he belongs to everybody, in spite of his very obvious display of tribalism?
Even the British Foreign Minister observed recently that after almost one year in office, Buhari has not deemed it necessary to visit the South South region, a very important part of Nigeria from where Nigeria derives most of its revenue. He also has not visited the South East.
This guy has become the most divisive and sectional president of Nigeria so far. He is definitely not for everybody as you claimed.

In the wake of Boko Haram menace I had suggested this move as a Kings move, as the funding for Boko Haram initially was from the proceeds from Oil Blocks until the monster was let out of the cage.
Jonathan was advised to revoke all oil blocks to these individuals. Why? Even if the likes of Dajuma, Dantata and Co. were to live 100 times over with the type of jobs they were involved in, in this life time, they cannot afford the cost for OPL let alone OML and Seismic data acquisition. Talk more of the Drilling and production facilities.

what will be their leverage except for corrupt power position even if they were to enter into partnership with companies with track records and finances.

IYC should not ask for equitable distribution as this alone will be injustice, but outright revocation and forfeiture of all accounts, assets and properties ill-gotten from the wealth of these oil blocks.

Those under whom these oil blocks Like PMB, Lukeman Rilwane, OBJ, IBB were obtained should be probed and brought to book.

This is justice, this is fighting corruption, this is being equitable and this is the acceptable practice worldwide.
