Absolute truism! I am into self employed and wont give it up for anything, not even a bank job, federal government job or anything else. There are so many advantages in being self employed and also include growing at your own pace, not being at the whims and caprice of "oga at the top" etc and with a clear vision and hard work one can achieve whatever he dreams of, though the economy at the moment can be frustrating to business owners but at the same time you are not at risk of being sacked if you were to be working for someone.

Right on point. I am in a salaried employment and there are days I wish I could extend my sleep till at least 9:00am, but I can't. I have to keep showing up at work 8:00am whether I feel like or not. Sometimes the stress accumulates and my personal output drops, but no one gives a damn as long as I show up at work as required. Most days I just stare at my computer till 4:30 . . . (or I lounge at NL like I am doing now ) Then I carry my bag and go home. The next day, the circle starts again. At the end of the month, my account is credited. I spend it and wait again for another one to enter. The monotonous routine is killing me. I keep asking myself: "How long can I keep this up?"
PS: Don't get me wrong. I love the fact that I don't have to hussle too much for the money I am getting. The financial security is cool, but I feel something precious dying inside of me . . .

I will work for myself when I retire and can rely on strong asset base and limitless cash flow. I tried that stunt once and was parking my car to jump buses and leg the rest to meet appointments that yielded nothing. After a while I dusted my degrees and joined the corporate ladder. Today they provide my cars and fuel, mega size generator with diesel, they pay my club bills, pick my phone bills, pay my DSTV, where do I even stop. Salary is regular, they pay for offshore and local trainings, i use the employers facilities to even do small PPs and even the tablet I am using to type this plus the data is provided by them.

Let me continue to manage the 8 to 5pm thing abeg. The benefits far outweigh the downside. Meanwhile, i pray that God will provide all of us with meaningful jobs and opportunities to enable us make informed decisions whether we want to work for ourselves or others.

working for yourself is when you realize you dont have time for yourself. i mean, i have not even gone for exercise in more than a year. the last time was during elections.

the begining is very tedious, especially when trying to build clientel, and all manner of tax collectors are on your neck for their tax [nepa, opc security, lawma, local government levy, etc]

when i started, i can assure you that at the end of the day's work, i might go home with 200, yet i come the next day with 50 or 100 naira from inside the money

after 4 years, let me put it this way - i drive a jeep, i live in a 4 bdroom flat and i just returned from a restaurant after eating a plate of food costing 500

dont get me wrong, although i am ok now, i could have been much larger if i had remained with my previous firm in kaduna, i might even be building my own house by now.
