I don't want an immigrant visa. I only wanted to visit her with my son. I can't live in the us. Im married here in Nigeria. The fact that I have a sis there doesn't disqualify me for non immigrant visa, or does it?

It does not disqualify you definitely, unfortunately COs are trained to assume everyone who applies for NIV intends to immigrate unless they are able to prove the aren't

how do you prove? By showing ties such as marriage, kids in nigeria, well paying job in nigeria, properties etc. off all these, mariage and kids hold the highest weight as jobs can be abandoned and properties sold. you, especially a woman, will not ditch your kids so your chances are pretty high.

unfortunately, having an immediate relative in the US is more than enough reason for a CO to deny anyone, first you just have to pray you meet a CO with an attitude like our old visaofficer
,you must able to convince him/her at your first shot and then pray she likes your makeup.

if i were you, i will give a year break then re-apply, i will leave my son behind and tell the CO when he/she asks why do you want to go to the usa

My sister has told me a lot about the US and i will love to visit and have her take me around. i have a son here with my husband to return to with a well paying job.

Hello House.
Pls I was denied a US visa on Friday.
My question is Can I apply for Uk visa renewal now? Won't it look strange that am applying for renewal days after us visa denial? I'm entitled to paid leave to any country of my choice in my office and decided since I was denied the US visa, I can always go back to my usual London for vacation
Kindly advice.
Thanks a lot.

Yes you can apply, both countries have different immigration policies, that's why u didn't get us visa automatically because u have uk visa,US give visa to people who have been refused UK all the time

Also note there is no such thing as Uk renewal, it's a completely new visa application every time you apply, it is judged based on the merits at the time of application, quite different from US drop box, you have to provide all documents you did to get initial UK visa and even more if your circumstances have changed

Does having an expired Mexico visa which was used to visit turkey on the E-visa prog affect US NIV negatively?

... No. I don't even know why you would think that it would.

a sister is an immediate relative who can actually file an immigrant visa for you.
since she sent you an invite, this implies she is either a LPR or citizen

These guys don't take things lightly like we do here, if you are applying for a non-immigrant visa, you must be eligible for it.
you are not eligible for non-immigrant visa, i am sure you got 214b on the blue paper

you are actually eligible for immigrant visa, if your sister petitions for you, it will take 13years to get a visa.
if you try to re-apply with the hope of claiming you no longer have a sister there, they have your fingerprints which will bring up your old application, COs are always nice to show you your old picture if you want.
That is considered immigration fraud and misrepresentation. you will be ineligible for both non immigrant and immigrant visas then

your only way out?
get your sister to file for you or try non-immigrant again but never deny that you have a sister, never.
even when you arrive at POE, you may be denied entry and deported.

@LadyGuinivere and the others thank you for the great job you ate doing here. I have gone through the old thread and am still going thru the new thread. But then I just want direct answers to some questions . I have been scheduled for a US Visa interview for 6th of June. Here are my challenges:
I have been expecting an invitation letter from my Aunt and her husband for close to 2weeks now. I intend to use the letter to boost my chances. Unfortunately, it seems my aunts husband isn't fine with it. Honestly I do not blame him, there are several reasons why he should be. They do not really know me as regards what I do and my personality because of the nature of our family. it's a family where everybody does things secretly.
I am presently working, earning around 400k monthly. I am not married and have little tie in Nigeria except for my extended family.
What are the things you think I should do to boost my chances of getting the visa. Honestly I just wanna go have fun for 2Wks and come back to my job. Aside my good job, there is no other serious consideration to look out for in my application. Thanks for your time.

Invitation letters aren't really some big deal or chance booster. Good paying jobs, stability in your employment, your career, years of work experience, travel experience/history, how old you are, socio-cultural ties, your itinerary, how you handle your interview, etc could come to your rescue if they exist. Single guys and babes do get their NIV applications granted. No hard and fast rule on this per se, Keep faith!

But now am kinda hungry to see the world, starting with America.
My job is very stable, I av over 5yrs of eexperience, 3Oyrs old . Not married.

@Intrepid01 The good thing about getting a U.S Visa is that you don't have to know anybody to visit but you must satisfy that V.O that you're genuine and will return. I will advise you to apply for tourism (Vacation) and be truthful during your interview... I'm sure you will visit the land of free and brave.

The first and biggest thing with USA visa is to prove that you will return home after the trip.
The second thing is to show that you can afford the trip without spending most of your funds.

Anything else then is just details. shocked shocked

Well then, I take back my statement. Let LagosNIV answer. I also know people who got two years from Canada

My sister abeg take back your statement jejely lol. I applied last year as a Canadian Permanent Resident with my family to the US embassy Toronto visa office with my Nigerian Passport and we were all issued 120 months USA visa. Most Nigerian families I know here, that are Canadian Permanent Residents are generally issued 10 years (120 months) if visa is granted. I was surprised at first when I arrived but considering the close knit relationship between Canada and USA it definitely makes sense. Some of my Nigerian Friends that are Canadian Permanent Residence have what they call Nexus card that allows them enter the USA without a visa by just flashing the card that the USA / Canada Border. I learnt about this when I arrived here. My brother good luck.

Please, I just check the earliest appointment date. It is June. Is there anyway one can get earlier appointment?

Secondly, someone's profile /data matches mine. Who has been in that situation before? Am asked to send a mail.
if you want to get an earlier appointment you have to do sleepless afternoon and nights and keep refreshing the page as for the profile call them it takes a few working days to effect the changes, if it's an early date in June you can go for it as we are in half May already
