I have been granted an F-1 visa and was told to pick up my visa on Thursday this week, which happens to be the start date on my I-20. Is it possible to pick it up sooner? I called the attention of my interviewer to the date, but she said that I would have to talk to my school. I talked to my international counselor at the school, but she says that she cannot defer the start date on my I-20. I tried to get in touch with someone who can help, but I only got an email address, which I posted to, but there is no reply yet. Is there anything else I can do? Your assistance is deeply appreciated. Thank you.

This is a bit complicated so you either have to check with the embassy or check google .

The usually guidance :

F Visas: Do not arrive more than 30 days before the program start date printed on your I-20. You may be refused entry to the U.S. if you arrive 31 or more days early, or if you arrive 1 day after your start date. In general, plan to arrive a few days before the scheduled International Student Orientation meetings. If you know you will arrive late, contact the Admissions Office beforehand. It HIGHLY POSSIBLE THAT if you do not have the new I-20, you may be denied entry after the start date.

Your school is harsh because other schools states : Students may NOT enter the U.S. after the start date on the I-20. (If you need to enter later, please tell us so that we can put that date on the I-20, allowing you to enter later.)

For some issues there are no clear guidance and really depends on the POE you meet at the port of entry . Sorry couldnt be of help

I think you can get an extension from your school.
put a call through to Intl office and explain to them.
They should be able to grant your request and a letter would be mailed to you.
With this, you won't have any problem at POE

Congrats SirRiddy! You are heading to a school I sent my GRE scores for MS in mech eng, but didnt send an application. I got an admit to Tech Univ of Munich, Germany for Power Eng. This made me soften my pursuit of US unis, especially after 3 rejects from Univ of Rhode Island, Michigan Tech and Steven's Inst of Tech. My heart still lies with US, but I'm finding it difficult to forfeit the recognition TUM has globally. It's currently ranked 53rd in the world, 5th best technical univ in Europe and the best technical univ in Germany.

In DS-160 there is a question: "Who is paying for your US trip?" I have a fully funded Phd offer, so should I fill self funded or university's name?

Do you have any immediate relatives, not including parents, in the United States? I have my elder brother in CA. He is a citizen. Should I answer Yes? I just wanted to truthful as I can.

Please Advice.. Thanks

This is an issue of simple English, bro. Paying for your trip? Of course, you. Paying for your study? Your school.

Congratuilations!!!!!! bro how old are you please .. i am 27 and am going for undegraduate interview next month my fear is just my age ....or should i tell the school to change my i20 to a transfer student which i think might help me with the VO

you can surely get ur visa for an undergraduate studies with that age, all you have to do is to convince d VO u're geniunely going for studies. be prepared to answer dis question: when did u finish secondary school and what have you been doing since u left sec.schl? altho i wasnt asked during my interview.

if your school insists they can't give you an extension date, just tell them you would like to defer your admission till fall 2016.…... and request they send you a new 1- 20.. I think that should help.

Hello house, i was given a 2year F1 visa for a masters program that will run for 29months(approximately 3years). Will like to know if it was a mistake, or it is expected by non-immigration F1 rule to come back home to renew it.Thanks.

that's the least thing your should be worried about, the moment you arrive in the states, your I-20 becomes a little more important , when that time come to extend your stay, its takes little to no stress, your international student advisor would settle that, and a little info from travel.state.gov "Continuing Students - May renew their visas at any time, as long as they have maintained student status and their SEVIS records are current. Continuing students may enter the United States at any time before their classes start"

How long may I stay on my F1 Student visa?
When you enter the USA on a student visa, you will usually be admitted for the duration of your student status. That means you may stay as long as you are a full time student, even if the F1 visa in your passport expires while you are in America.

Lol.. becarefull of the advice u take so you dont run into trouble. Remember the canadian students who went on scholarship but took a job in walmart and were caught. Led to deportation because international students are not allowed to work off campus ...in their case God was on their side because after deportation they well allowed back in to continue study. Not everyone will be that lucky. U don't even want to imagine what they went through during thattime. The worrying, the tears the tension.

For u to work over 80 hours a week then it has to be paid in cash so its not tied to your social security no. How many places will pay you in cash on campus job...

oga calm down for God and dont drawn blood!!! i am contracted to work off campus to a environmental sci company for research, every two weeks in a month 7-5 everyday(depending on delays rain or snow), i return to school for the other two weeks and catch up on "graduate" classes and file in daily report in lab. school only recognises 80 hours a months as salary while the rest goes into waiving in-state tuition.

You see ur story is changing oooo. Now it is 80 hours a month which works out to 20 hours a week .80 hours a week is different from 80 hours a month ....

what u just described is normal graduate assistance work . You are paid stipend and tuition waived

where is the changed story, i made a joke about "working under the table", i described working 7-5 for two weeks while i get paid 80 hours a month by the school while the 'overtime' hours get remitted to offset school bills. cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy oga you go slow oooo
