Issued in error or cos of the lashes it generated? Anyways, it's always good to listen to the voice of the people.
Re: Edo Government Retracts Statement On Oba's Appointment by Nobody: 1:45pm On May 25, 2016
The Edo state government should have known better, now that's more like it,let them go and dig up a better word to replace "approves", that portrays them as in authority yet doesn't put them in a position to be seen as having a say on who to becomes the next Oba (of which they actually have no say in, as the position is hereditary), a word that portrays them as felicitating with the royal house and the Bini people, lest they come for his head a second time,by now oshiomole should know that the Bini people respect the throne more than the government

Then why is he apologising?

Oshiomole stated earlier that he has approved the appointment of the new Oba which led to severe backlash.

Oshiomole can only ratify and gazette the Oba's ascension to the throne as he has no hand in his coronation.

This is why Bini people won trek with no shoe from Oba palace ring road to governors house.

Oshiomole think say Oba nah yeye Emir wey governor dey appoint?

It's a political statement... basically to appease the people and also they needed " an excuse",
Guy NO LETTER will be publicly published or posted(if even given), it will only be sent to the oba codedly.

We binis (even the ones bred in lag like myself). Are taught to revere the oba.

Dem think say the Oba throne is like Amir wey governor dey appoint.

The Oba is a blood line.

Even Buhari or supreme Court has no business in who or what becomes an Oba.

Some people just like arguing blindly simply because they want to win an argument or debate;whether the governor approves the appointment or not,it doesn't stop the Oba from being the Oba!

You think say Oba nah political sultan?

Do you know what an empire is and who heads an empire?

The Oba of Bini is not a mere king but a spiritual head of the Bini Kingdom.

In Bini culture the Oba is a god king similar to the likes of the Emperor of Japan.

I don't think the state government should interfere in traditional affairs especially the appointment of a new Oba of Benin.

People can argue blindly what concerns govt with the throne. Anyway the new Oba should try and bring lasting peace to Benin city and rid the town of evil men.

Where are the noisemakers who were spewing poo in the previous thread? Note, Bini traditional institution is far more advanced, well-structured than your country Nigeria. There is no single drop of political permutation about who succeeds the Oba in Bini Kingdom. It's a divine right of the first son of the Oba. Deal with with it! cheesy

Only a naive person won't understand the statement from
the governors office. It was a political not legal statement.
Nothing has changed only the timing of the appointment.

oba remains an invalid until his appointment is ratified
by the governor.

So the throne can only be ascended by descendants of the former Oba even if he is an slowpoke. There is no merit on that. I feel a king should be nominated based on merit.

The ones you termed "yeye" were also appointed through traditional

One attribute that signals monumental failure is unwillingness to learn and accept correction. While Edo govt has subtly admitted gross ignorance and cultural gaffe, you have decided to drown in your repulsive ignorance for hubris sake. Cheers! cheesy

Me thinks you missed this
The government will, in due course, issue a fresh letter on the installation of the Edaiken N’Uselu, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Eheneden Erediauwa, as the Oba of Benin, in line with the age-long succession tradition of the Benin Kingdom and in line with Section 19 (1) of the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Law, 1979 (as amended) and by virtue of all other laws enabling it in that behalf, after all necessary traditional rites are concluded.
