Dear House, Thanks for a very informative and vibrant house.

I am currently challenged (my first one) with a project that i have calculated that the consumption of the house is 20,300 Ah per day. All my calculations seem to be going off the charts.

Gurus please assist me in sizing this setup with a 24 v inverter.

Thanks ....

Did you mean 20,300Wh ? That's huge. Maybe you'll get more help if you show your workings because 20,300Wh is off the charts

On your 24 V you need about 1800 AH in batteries (@50% DOD). And 4500 Watts for your panels.
The refrigerator and freezer if they are new don't run for 24 hours straight. They run for approximately 6 to 8 hours a day. That might help you reduce your useage.
Good luck

20,300wh!!, i bet u hv 2 units 2hp ac + 2 deep freezer n all sorts of high power loads. u need to itemize ur load, so we understand how u arrived at such a high figure, ...ie if u r interested in getting a lower quote, but if u hv the cash go for it then...some1 has been kind enough to give a breakdown of what u need.

m 2cents...if u aint bouyant enough.......running acs on inverter/solar aint good, take them off

Hello everyone,

Does anyone have an idea where I can get the 3kva axpert hybrid inverter sold by solarshop fixed?

One of our units just went dead (totally blank no display). Its been a pretty good workhorse ,been on continuously for 2yrs +

Thanks

Does anyone know where to service these AXPERT inverters please?

Presently my solar charge controller is 20ah pwm and I have 4 pieces of 150 watts panel. My battery bank is 400 ah. My question is this: is my charge controller undersize?
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by obimind(m): 11:22pm On May 25, 2016
My installer told me that I only need a 30ah solar charge controller when I am operating on a 3.5kva inverter system which is bigger compared to my present 1.5 kva inverter. I need more clarification on this pls.

If you have a 12v or 24v system your charge controller is undersized. If your system is 48v youre ok,
For simplicity just divide your total solar array size (600watts) by your battery bank/system voltage, that gives you an idea of what you need.

Hope that helps

I am curious.

Why is it not good to run air conditioners on solar, if you are off-grid and has the power, and an inverter that can handle the air conditioners?

Cheers.

12v ?

What's the size of the cable running from your panels to your controller? At 600watts you're trying to get 40 - 50A through those cables. If three not big enough this will be an effort in futility

Absolutely nothing bruv... You can put any load on your inverter as long as it's properly rated for it, and you've got the benjamins for a huge battery bank!
With an inadequate battery bank, your back-up will be in seconds grin grin grin

I'm feeling so sad within myself right now. I have this feeling that I don't have a capable installer who is close by to give me the right advice. I had to confront him today telling him the same thing u just told me & he is still insisting that the 20ah pwm charge controller he installed for me is capable of handling my 150 watts panel which is in four pieces. What do I do now?
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by obimind(m): 3:05pm On May 26, 2016
That being the case, my battery bank is 400 ah in total. What size of charge controller will be okay for my battery if my panel rating is a total of 600 watts?

well...a 150 watt solar panel has an optimum operating current of 8.38A. Makes a total of 33.52A of current but since you are will b using pwm, don't expect more than that current..... U can go for a 30amp(cc) or 40amp(cc)
40amp pwm cc is not common.

I would suggest at this point you re-plan your system so you don't waste unnecessary resources.

With your present set up a 40 - 50 ah charge controller is adequate. Ask the marketer on the thread they are available. If youre in lagos roy solar is based at alaba and stocks reliable pwm controllers at reasonable prices.

Your main problem will be your cable. Even if you upgrade your charge controller without the adequate size cables running from your panels to the controller you won't see any noticable difference. You need at minimum 16mm cables to deliver that current.

This your controller's efficiency must be > 100%. Input power (63.9*8.9) < output power (14.4*39.7).
Clearly, those displayed readings are inaccurate cos energy cannot be created inside the unit.

What's the brand name?

when u factor in ineffiency of .77 that figure comes down to about 25ah. I think it is manageable. However that's a lot of current with relatively low voltage. What u think u are saving by getting a cheap controller u will have to spend on wiring otherwise having such high current pass through a less than 16mm wire within a short distance will not only resort to massive voltage losses.. the resistance might lead to heat which can cause a fire. The distance between your panel and cc will be key.

first work before u even all of price is how to make your power consumption very efficient. Doing that can save u a lot of unnecessary cost. Hint. Your freezer don't have to run all the time, your AC don't have to run at all. Get rechargeable fans and even those run on demand. Get energy saver bulbs of not more than 11w. TV don't have to be on 24h. U need to itemise each load and hours it would run. Do that and cut down on the huge power consumption and watch ur bill go down.

My house is sooo Energy efficient that often time what we use in a day is replaced before noon the next day and in most cases we can run the house directly from solar while the battery stays in float. And yes my load include a 175L freezer. We barely scratched 40% dod of our 440ah battery bank.

No offence but these 'ignorant' folks have a good point. A simple attestation that you have gone beyond the display during your testing period to actually tacking measurements with a meter clamp would be enough education for us all I should think.

After all where all here to learn
