Exactly!
He works first with what's available in the squad because majority of his signings are often shite!
And then he wait around to see if few quality players would suddenly become available in his second year.
But unlike what he's used to, our squad is just too shite to work with.
City would likely improve their squad with the likes of Gundogan, Kroos coming into the midfield, Arsenal would always be in the top 4 and would even do better with the signing of Kante, Xhaka and a quality striker in the team, Spurs' young team are likely to grow from strength to strength and Chelsea would likely improve further.
Even Pool would keep roaring their ugly head with Klopp in charge and with their excellent attack of Sturridge, Coutinho and Firmino, they just needed a good central midfielder to support them and a good defence.
We have no quality apart from De gea and Shaw (both won't offer enough in the attack for us though) Martial and a potential in Rashford.
Let's see what Jose would do with the shite sqaud.
at the very least, what Must Jose achieve next season to be a success in your estimation ?

if we buy Kane dat means rashford's progress is doomed already. so also if aubameyang is bought. with a striker like zlatan who is not expected to be there for a long term, rashford's future is guaranteed.
well that's not the way I see it.

We have only Rashford, Martial & Rooney (I'm being generous here) capable of leading the line. Martial seem to have nestled on the wings & Rooney keep dropping farther behind on the pitch.

Realistically we will have only Rashidi & Kane/Auba if we can pull off a deal with either. There may even be room for Wilson or Keane over the season. What's career-stopping in this? I don't see Rashidi as someone fazed, he knows what to expect & that's competition! If he's good enough then he's old enough simplez..

OK wait let me get this straight.....
Ozil and Di maria are average, and Mourinho depends on quality players to win

But Mourinho, Ozil and Maria are part of the best LA liga team ever

All I see is desperation by this club, the pressure will be so much on MOU not to disappoint that he'll get so irrational and disappoint.
His rants will be worse than those he said at Chelsea. Watch this space.

Nobody is saying Pep isn't good. Actually we could say he's the best coach in the world at the moment but I believe that MOU is better in some ways. I see Mourinho and Diego as two very smart streetwise kind of coaches who can adjust to any situation. They actually can play dirty and create the unexpected while Pep to me is a not-so-flexible and an all-out-attack kind of coach.

I also don't subscribe to the assertion of MOU being a defensive coach. Okay I used to but I don't think he really did that in Real Madrid that much. Actually he does that against some specific teams and it's all tactical. Go and check his record, he actually attack in most matches against most teams. If he should be appointed Barcelona or Bayern manager, he will certainly utilize a different approach to his tactics

Trust me if Pep sets up his City team like Bayern and Barcelona, teams like Crystal park, Stoke and maybe Sunderland might just humiliate them not to talk about teams like West Ham and Spurs and Southampton that will poke into your eyes like nothing dey happen. This league is interestingly crazy my friend. Managers set up teams based on their strengths and the defensive cohesiveness of most teams in EPL.

This experience MOU has got more than Pep any day and anytime

------my opinion though

@capricornian, You've spoken well my guy. We shouldn't be surprised seeing Pep coming out of games with 90% possession and 0-1 point since more than 80% percent of his opponents are going to park trailer grin
When you also look at that City defence and Pep's less attention to defence, you know it's going to be a tough season.

Time will tell.

Abi... Pep must just go ask Arsene Wenger how the thing dey go for EPL. Arsene Wenger is actually a very good manager who would win Spanish or German league every year if he were to go join them. Those 'small' teams for EPL don show am many times.

Sometimes beautiful attacking football alone doesn't do it and Athletico Madrid is a good example. There has to be some balance and smartness which I think MOU has got more than Pep.

To be honest I like MOU... saw a clip of him talking to one Inter player on Skysport..it was a brief but very challenging or should I say daring convo. It looked like he was up to some mischief with those looks and I almost cursed uncle LVG

MOURINHO APPOINTED UNITED MANAGER

• Portuguese coach has won 22 trophies since 2003

José Mourinho will take over as manager of Manchester United from the 2016/17 season, signing a three-year contract with an option to stay at the club until at least 2020.

José, 53, has managed at the top level of European football for over a decade and in that time has won league titles and cups in four countries (Portugal, England, Italy and Spain), as well as winning the UEFA Champions League twice – in 2004 with FC Porto and in 2010 with Inter Milan.

Announcing the appointment, Ed Woodward said: "José is quite simply the best manager in the game today. He has won trophies and inspired players in countries across Europe and, of course, he knows the Premier League very well, having won three titles here.

"I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome him to Manchester United. His track record of success is ideal to take the club forward."

José Mourinho said: "To become Manchester United manager is a special honour in the game. It is a club known and admired throughout the world. There is a mystique and a romance about it which no other club can match.

"I have always felt an affinity with Old Trafford; it has hosted some important memories for me in my career and I have always enjoyed a rapport with the United fans. I’m looking forward to being their manager and enjoying their magnificent support in the coming years."

I still dey view this mourinho news with one eye; seriously hoping someone pulls a Steve Harvey on all of us.

Jose is a good coach and produces results, no doubts, but is he a ManUTD kind of coach? I seriously don't know. For the good of the club, I pray he succeeds, but we will be inflicting more damage to our already fragile ego if he doesn't. This looks more like a get-rich-quick tablet where we try to treat symptoms rather than the cause.

I would have thought we would need a Manager and not a mercenary, one that we can trust our dear club for a the next decade, to groom players, build a stronger fan base and bring in trophies and glories.

Only time will tell.

UNITED LEGENDS SAY...

"I hope Mourinho is the right man. Jose's been at big clubs and had success. He's won something at every club he's been at, and he'll be expected to do it again." - Paul Scholes

"I always expected Mourinho to have Manchester United at the very top of his list - his dream job. I think he can be an absolute success, but has a lot to prove. I'm looking forward to this next period." - Peter Scheichel

"Congratulations to Jose on being announced manager of the biggest club in the world. This is his most exciting and most challenging job yet. The first thing he needs to do is install the winning mentality back." - Rio Ferdinand

You forgot to add that Leicester had pacy forwards. 4-4-2 with both Ibra and Rooney is a disaster waiting to happen.
Same with Atletico team which had Griezman and Torres.
That said, Top 3 is the minimum because Van gaal managed top 4 all throughout his tenure. We were joint top 4 with City except for the goal difference. Any coach coming in should do better than top 4.

Mazi..just wait and see... your other eye will soon be opened as well. No doubt he's gonna make some costly mistakes just as Fergie did so many times. I remember we used to feel like the man had passed it after some games but his achievement will surpass his mistakes. He's human at the end of the day but his perfection will supercede his imperfection.

Give him some benefit of doubt abeg

for those who keep saying he's anot a man Utd type of coach. There is only one Sir Alex Ferguson. One unique coach. There won't be another like him. So we have to move on from saying that's the type of coach we should be getting because SAF no get part 2. I've been in very 2 minds about Jose, but the reality is the game has changed. No top club is getting a manager that will stay for 10 years if they want to be successful for a long time. It simply won't happen anymore. Also, Jose is a very polarising person. But he's undeniably a great manager. He cannot be less than great with that CV.I'm not saying he's guaranteed success but he's the best manager based on availability and his track record. I see it going one of 2 ways. He's either going to having amazing success or a complete disaster. I don't see us becoming mediocre under him.

As for now, he is now the manager of Manchester United. So he will have my full support.
