you see??...this is one major problems of we Nigerians. Topical and sensitive issues like this are been kicked randomly like a football. But when someone posts snake, accident, luxury, sex and the likes... that's the only time they come put pro actively. *SMH* Anyway, I was also a victim sometime in 2014. while I was working with a 3star hotel(name reserved), we junior staffs were entitled to health insurance. it happened that one day I fell I'll with severe malaria(not medically ascertained), I opted for my chosen hospital. After explaining the symptoms which I was experiencing, they doc only ended up prescribing paracetamol (counting) and 150naira cough syrup. 2days later, I was placed on emergency, because my doctor friend finally diagnosed I had typhoid and malaria. I even fainted twice. that is the worse illness I have ever experienced. but to God be the glory...all is now a story. moreover....I am AA(I have never fell sick since that day) like mologi...mo n wa iyawo 1 Like |

A nurse gave my brother who had a straight leg, injection in the butt. It made him have "k-legs", till we used stretching and pressing to make the curved one a lil bit straight. But till now, his legs aren't straight like before. |

I have....I was handed over to a student doctor for practice in BMH Port Harcourt when I had acute appendicitis, he tore me open and forgot what next to do,I nearly died due to over bleeding, if not for the main surgeon who came and took over from him. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Many people are writing on hearsays. The OP requested that if YOU have ever been wrongly diagnosed, share your experiences. We want to hear PERSONAL experiences, and not something someone that knows someone told you. How did you go about getting the right diagnoses and what did you do as per follow up..... 2 Likes |

I am trying hard to hold back my tears for your friend that her womb was removed. I swear down, God forbid if I were in her shoe, I will do anything possible to kill the doctor or the surgeon. I can't imagine why someone will just rendered another person life useless. May God Almighty comfort her. Nnemuka: 4 Likes |

sleek82:Rubbing might not be the issue here. Injection site should not even be rubbed just pressed in gently and released. If the injection is oil based e. g. some family planning injections, athletes' injections and some antimalarials, and it is rubbed in, it might leaf to abscess, if it is not deep enough for the type it volume of injection administers or if the site was not properly cleaned we can get that problem too and lot more. I had administered injection to a child on his thigh against the mothers insistence on me giving it on the buttocks while the husband looked on only for me to come back the third day and learnt that the child was brought back with abscess, in my brain I was trying to figure what I did wrong, the mother would have been extremely furious with me if I was around. My saving grace was that the husband was US based and the Doctor told me the husband was the one pacifying the wife that all through his stay in the US that kids were injected on thigh but not buttocks. Then where I erred was rubbing in an oil based indictable, but thank God it wasn't more than that. 2 Likes 1 Share |

The worst experience i ever had was when my brother whom was diagnosed of intramedullary sponal tumor was set to have a surgery and during the whole bookings and all, his blood sample was taken to determine his blood group which was said to be (B-), a rare blood group... I was told to get 3 people to donate a pint of blood each so as to replenish the blood to be given by the blood bank....i was practically held at ransome (because i was told they wont process the blood if we dont donate)...we donated the blood, only to be told there were no (B-) blood group and i need to go buy blood (this was a day to surgery ooo) i bought the blood and went back to the blood bank for processing...then i was told i have to pay for the processing and they dont even think they can collect the blood i brought from an external lab I wouldnt have gotten angry if not for the lab attendant's complete insolence (he said is it his fault that everything is like that?).......i ended up not paying anything for processing after i finished talking sense into his head...it was his supervisor that came to intervene! |

As a nurse, I will never forget a woman brought into the hospital one morning like that, I was to end my night duty that day and the woman was rushed in aged 62, she was in serious pain, and there was this protrusion from the vaginal which had turn black. The lady Doctor came to me, sister what is that, although I had not seen procidential before, I knew straight away "that was procidentual" (a condition where the whole uterus protrudes out of the vagina). She now call the consultant gynaecologist who ordered some analgesia and a muscle relaxant. I believe it is cheaper and easier to do better jobs when we reason together and care but doctors will go one way, nurses the other way in a bid to prove to the clients they are bigger than one another. If only we put into consideration that the person we are talking about is a family's bread winner, a precious side to a family, or grand parent that had laboured on his/her children extensively and should live to enjoy his/her labour we will know that the job is a team work. APA told us that the patient is the best person to rate it's pain on scale but here am always surprised when we withhold pain relievers from patient and assume they are pretending. The Government too is not helping by not employing adequate hands to man the hospital. You will see a doctor consulting with about 50 clients per day at the OPD, a nurse taking care of 32 patients in the surgical ward whereas the WHO recommendation is a nurse to four patients, and a nurse to a patient in HDPDs. So, all these and more contribute to such avoidable mistakes. Finally, the place of God and prayer should not be left out no matter how Infinitesimal the care needed is. It had gone a long way to avert terrible mistakes in care giving 13 Likes 2 Shares |

This happened few years ago. I had a very strange illness that could not be diagnosed by some the private hospitals around: they were telling that it was malaria and this treated me for it. Yet I was not getting better; so, I had to go the teaching hospital, LUTH precisely. The professional surgion diagnose GERD (gastro easophageal reflux diseases). I was so happy that finally someone found out what the problem is. He prescribed drugs, I used it and got better.. However, the symptoms would re surface after some periods of time, then I would use the drugs earlier prescribed by the surgion. This went on for about a year, then I got tired.. I felt I needed to go back to find lasting solution to the problem.. So, I went back to LUTH again, but this time around another surgion examined me and told me as-a-matter-of-factory that I was misdiagnosed previously, that my illness was psychological and not physical. He referred me to a psychologist. As soon as I knew that it was psychological I never go back again. I restructured my brain and since then I have not felt the symptoms again. 1 Like 1 Share |

BlackPeni5: Impossible with minor procedures like appendix and hernias but 'may be' with big and messy surgeries. Perhaps you are one of those who patronize quacks. Instruments and swabs are counted before surgery and before closure of all surgical patients, and again before patients are wheeled out to recovery room. Hollawaley: I disagree, if that where to be the case, swelling wouldn't be the only after effect. The child would probably have lost a leg. Its probably just an injection abscess. Which sometimes happen through no fault of the nurse. I have injected a patient who later had an abscess, i didn't do it wrongly. It just happened due to a secondary infection. Its one of the complications of giving infections |

I have had two experiences i can remember. 1. There was a time i had stomach ulcer but the doctor said its worms and gave me worm expeller. The ulcer grew worse till i went to see another doctor. 2. There was a time the pharmacist added another drug to my prescription which was meant for someone else. I was lucky i had not started taking the drug. The pharmacist called me about 2 hrs later not to take the drug. The hospital is not a road side hospital, very expensive and techy. Summary: Prevention is better than cure. If you enter the hands of these hospitals... |
