Some injections are not supposed to be mixed together or they will react. I doubt the nurse was sacked because of that, maybe something else prompted the sack.
She was sacked and replaced with a more qualified nurse, because my dad was actually the one seeing to their salaries. He requested for a more qualified person and the chief nurse replaced her immediately!

I know some injections are not supposed to be mixed together, but how would you give five different injections to a young boy who was not involved in a fatal accident, who was not run over by a bulldozer...but who just hit his toe against a stone? The chief nurse said at the time, that the nurse had committed a medical blunder. cheesy

Are you a nurse/Doctor/a medical personnel

My pregnant mum went for scanning and the result showed twins...she developed high bp wondering where twins would come from, esp. when there's no twins in our family history and the fact that she was supposed to be in menopause...long story short she had heart attack and died. After her death it was discovered there was no twins at all.

My dad was diagnosed with ulcer, started taking injections everyday as prescribed by his doctor(the pain was unbearable)..yet his health deteriorated...we latter found out he had liver cancer...it was too late ,he died.

I can relate with this. I think part of what contributes to them jumping into conclusion is that the workload is usually too much especially for OPD (out-patient) doctors. They have to see a lot of patients hence the rush. But I think they should still try to spend a little more time to actually get to the root of the problem before giving a definite diagnosis.
They should run a blood test before diagnosing. There is no excuse for diagnosing before running test and dolling out prescriptions.

good topic. but i thnk most stories here are hearsay or fables from underinformed people. few storries look genuine and very pathetic indeed. No human been no matter who you are is above error. May we not be victim . and i pray God continually guide health professionals to do things rightly in this harsh practicing condition we found our selves

Sorry about your loss. That's so sad. Losing two parents to misdiagnosis. In a civilized climate, that's a malpractice lawsuit but there is no repercussion for that carelessness in Nigeria.

: do you know majority cant afford test in reliable lab. nd f what use is a cheap but unreliable lab result. in this part of the world presumptive diagnosis and emperical treatment cant be completely ruled out till we attain universal health coverage through genuine insurance scheme

As a matter of fact, if you have not travelled outside the country, you wont understand the fact that the medical practice in Nigeria is suicidal.......where you can just go to any pharmacy and buy antibiotics or a doctor will just write something for you and tell you to go buy it at any pharmacy.....in advance countries (though i have not been to somany but in Canada) that doesnt happen....even if you are dying in front of the pharmacist, they will never sell you any antibiotics without a proper, well detailed precription note from a doctor and all your details would be written on the drug container. The only drugs you can buy at will are pain killers and cough syrups
Gbam.

Even with universal health coverage, the doctors must be truly certified by medical board and more importantly, the hospitals must be upgraded to UNESCO world standard. There is no single hospital in Nigeria that meets the World standard. That's a national shame. No wonder the Thiefliciasns and their proxies will travel aboard in a jiffy for their medical needs while ordinary Nigerians die of treatable diseases.

Did you say for my own good? You should have read my original post. I was paralyzed and was dying. I was taken to another hospital before I could get myself. And, my dad using his power to oppress the poor? Like seriously? He was the one paying all their salaries. He decided to do it for the whole community, he just wanted the best nurses around, not some quack. And he made sure they came. Now how's that oppression of the innocent? undecided

Thanks! I thought about a lawsuit but na who chop belle full d pursue matter for naija, besides it won't bring them back.
But I make it my goal to encourage people with medical issues : always go for second opinion and even third,do not ignore any odd sign and try have some medical knowledge too for it can help one express oneself and relate well with medical practitioners, and the doctors should listen too.(I did my own research and suggested to the doctor that my dad should have a colonoscopy,he was feeling like .."I am the doctor here"wink

God be with you and your siblings. Your story is very touching and i believe there are more stories like that. People should start holding the hospitals and the worthless medical practitioners feet to fire.

the injection could be novalgin or analgin or any other one similar....if not administered correctly, it could even paralyse someone permanently

Ur right. A student doctor administered Nolvagin injection on me wen I was about 7 years old and I got paralysed on the spot. My parents had to carry me home. It took me over a year to learn how to walk again. I just thank God it got corrected with loads of therapy.

You know...when your kid injures himself, you take him to the nearby health center for some kind of first aid treatment. That was what my dad did only to almost lose his son. Nobody prescribed any injections, she just thought it to herself and immediately administered it...because she was alone then.

Nurses are beautiful...especially when they are on their official uniform

She was working alone.? Who was the Chief nursing officer in charge
If it is a primary health centre she won't be fired, my guess is a private hospital.
You may have been injected with any of these
...local anaesthetic
..Adrenaline
..tetanus toxoid
..analgesic
...antibiotics.

We may never know.

This happened few years ago. I had a very strange illness that could not be diagnosed by some the private hospitals around: they were telling that it was malaria and this treated me for it. Yet I was not getting better; so, I had to go the teaching hospital, LUTH precisely. The professional surgion diagnose GERD (gastro easophageal reflux diseases). I was so happy that finally someone found out what the problem is. He prescribed drugs, I used it and got better.. However, the symptoms would re surface after some periods of time, then I would use the drugs earlier prescribed by the surgion. This went on for about a year, then I got tired.. I felt I needed to go back to find lasting solution to the problem.. So, I went back to LUTH again, but this time around another surgion examined me and told me as-a-matter-of-factory that I was misdiagnosed previously, that my illness was psychological and not physical. He referred me to a psychologist. As soon as I knew that it was psychological I never go back again. I restructured my brain and since then I have not felt the symptoms again.

I don laff tire

I think you failed to listen well when you were being counselled prior to the surgery. Most patients do that probably because of anxiety. The first procedure you had was an incisional biopsy to take a part of the diseased tissue for histological diagnosis(microscopy). Second surgery was excision of the lump. So it was not a mistake.
1st procedure was diagnostic while the second one was curative.

No sir!

I did the incisional biopsy a couple of month before the 2 surgeries... That was where and when it was discovered that the lump was benign... It was then I was asked if I want the lump removed or not... Pls don't jump into conclusion... I know what I am saying sir... #cheers
