A powerful explosion believed to be from a suicide car bomb this morning rocked a military checkpoint along the Biu-Damaturu road, killing unspecified number of persons, witnesses told MEZIE TIMES.


The explosion occurred at the time Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari was delivering his nationwide Democracy Day speech.


Though details of the blast is still sketchy as at the time of going to press, an eyewitness account said several persons were feared killed and many injured.


The same checkpoint had been hit by bomb blast in the past believed to be from the dreaded Boko Haram sect.
