SPEAKER of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has traced current economic crisis to what he described as “easy choices made by former President Goodluck Jonathan.”

Dogara, who spoke during the child dedication service of a member of the House, Olusegun Odebunmi, held at The Citizens Church (TCC), Abuja, called on Nigerians, especially Christians, to pray for God’s intervention.

He said: “All challenges we are faced with are as a result of our choices. When we had the opportunity to make hard choices, we went for easy ones and that is why we are boxed in a corner.”

Dogara said: “From about $110 per barrel price for crude, we are now averaging about $40 per barrel because of the crisis in the Niger-Delta; we used to earn about $110 on 2.2 million barrels a day.

“Right now, it’s about $40 on about 1.2 million barrels per day. So, you would see now that our national wealth has gone down by as much as 50 percent.

“Unfortunately, when we had those wonderful periods, we did not invest. We did not diversify our economy and so, we are in for a rough ride.

“The roads may not be smooth, but, the truth is that most roads that often lead to wonderful destinations are not smooth.”

Dogara maintained that Christians, no matter the situation, should see reason to celebrate Democracy Day.

He said it is time people turned to God for divine intervention instead of murmuring and lamentation, saying, “with prayer, God can raise men and women of impeccable character who can contribute their quota in national development and transformation.”

Very stale, like a five days old egwusi soup. What exactly can you fault in what the gentleman has said??

Jonathan is responsible for most of the mess we find ourselves in today. He made unbelievably terrible choices in the days of plenty- today, we are reaping the "rewards" of those choices.

But I believe we'd pull through and emerge even stronger.

He pointed out Hero IB's feet of clay & nothing induces that tantrum of theirs more than that..

Jonathan is responsible for most of the mess we find ourselves in today. He made unbelievable terrible choices in the days of plenty- today, we suffer for them.

Choices like increasing PMS from 65 to 97 and only having a scam Sure P to show for it.

Choices like turning Diezani into a goddess

Choices like what the ND scavenging economic terrorists have been turned into.

But I believe we'd pull through and emerge even stronger.

Amen...Amen.. but Dogara has just turned into persona non grata in their books.. the attack on his person go reach fever pitch cheesygrin cheesy

Jonathan's name gives zombies early morning erection. No single policy from the born dullard has been right. Look at Agriculture that was booming and feeding us in the years past is now nothing to write home about. Diseases that were there before now appear new and mighty to the Dillard's team. Yet zombies will rather go to bed hungry than blame their Demi god.

Nigerian politicians are the worst set of people on earth, did Dogara and APC realised that GEJ didn't take tough decision to diversify the Economy when they took him to court to shear Excess crude oil reserve, they be speaking from both mouth to cover there incompetence,I still held GEJ in high esteem because in all these nonsense they churn out it takes wisdom to hold your tongue...silence is better than lies.

Without layout plans and agenda.

The logic is simple.
You have flour but no oven. Others bake bread for you in exchange for some flour. Rather than save to buy an oven, you keep selling your flour. Suddenly, the price of flour crashes. Now you have no oven, your flour doesn't sell so well, and you still need bread.

So 2 problems. Your flour is cheaper, and you still have no oven to bake bread. SO now you have to spend from flour to buy bread.

Asking Nigerians not to blame Jonathan as the root cause of our current economic condition is not just senseless but irrational and unrealistic.

Even if he was too clueless to effectively diversify the economy, couldn't he have just saved the excess income for a sensible successor instead of STEALING everything like money was going out of fashion?

I can only imagine if Buhari presided over that period of plenty.

If you had read the article, you would realize that the unrestrained stealing by your IB is the issue identified as the underlying cause of your current suffering, and not any policy failure as you're struggling to opine.

Even if PMB had been planning since 1960, it would change nothing if a certain Ineffectual buffoon decided to loot the oil surplus and foreign reserves, thereby putting the Naira at risk and ensuring we are still dependent on only oil as our source of income, DESPITE warnings about an impending oil price crash.

IB was a shameless thief and an administrative failure.

You only feed fat from oil, you don't understand how things work. How did issues in the niger delta drive oil price down to $40/bbl?

There was budget for last year, why didn't the FG start putting thing in place pending when his own budget comes?

Why did he take six months to appoint the usual suspects as ministers at a time when we were having dwindling income and instability?

This blame game has got to stop. Or after 4 years, you people will achieve nothing.

WTF is even wrong with some of you people? Must we continue blaming the past administration for everything bad in this administration? What is a govt elected for if not to manage the affairs of a country. When APC was campaigning didn't they campaign against the supposedly bad policies of the Goodlucks's administration and how they are going to fix things. Why the blame now? During the APC campaign they said there are a lot of problems wrong with Goodluck's regime and that it's only Mohammed Buhari that can fix it, thus they asked people To Vote for them to fix the problems. This shows before coming in they know there are existing problems to solve. So why the blame game?
Those who waste time blaming others for their failure will never find solution to the problem.

This Man Has Lost My Respect. For God's Sake,It's One Year After,And You All Are Still Blaming #GEJ. Did Nigeria Woes Started From Goodluck's Era ?
Let Me State,That Even Mr Integrity ( Buhari ) As A Sitting Military Head Of State,Contributed To The Woes Of Nigeria's Problem. When Obama Took Over Office,That Was When The Great Economic Crunch/Recession Started,But Never For Once Did We Hear Him Blame Bush Administration. He Gathered His Economic Team,And They Went To Work and Got It Addressed.
Nigerians are Tired To The Bones Of This Blame Games. Get To Work APC. Time Is Ticking.
