Brigadier General, F Yahaya, Nigeria Army: The renewed attacks and sabotage to oil and gas facilities in the Niger Delta Region, particularly in Delta State which have adversely impacted on the crude oil production and the supply of gas been particularly worrisome and of concern to this Brigade and to the Nigerian Army and Operation PULO SHIELD. Several cases of sabotage were recorded in Delta State from 1 January 2016 to date and there were still further warnings of more damages to oil and gas assets and threats to shut down all operations in the sector. To this end, the Brigade decided to embark on pre-emptive measures to contain and deter the criminals from actualizing their threats within the scope of our operational mandates. Consequently, based on information available to this Brigade, a cordon and search operation of Oporaza Community and environs was ordered. The team arrived the town at about 0140 Hours on 28 May 2016 and cordoned the hideout of the suspected militants and pipeline vandals. Our operations that led to these arrests and recoveries were conducted professionally, guided by our mandate, operation orders, code of conduct and rules of engagement. Our operations are strictly targeted against perpetrators of all criminal acts in our area of responsibility and not innocent citizens. Therefore law abiding citizens are please free to go about their normal, lawful businesses without hindrance as it is indeed part of our mandate to protect live and property and provide enabling environment for law abiding citizens in our area of responsibility. Ladies and gentlemen of the press, it is my pleasure to inform you that this Brigade has maintained and enjoy good liaison and synergy with various security agencies and stakeholders in a collaborative effort to contain this ugly situation, which has yielded good results. The Brigade also welcomes credible information on illegal oil bunkering and related matters, pipeline vandalism and activities of militant groups. I therefore seek the cooperation of all good and well-meaning Nigerians to please report issues that would assist this Headquarters in the fight against these crimes in the overall interest of this great nation. http://www.nta.ng/news/20160530-update-on-operation-pulo-shield-at-oporaza-in-niger-delta/ 4 Likes

Unfortunately, I doubt the show of force will achieve much. Soft targets like pipelines run through inaccessible and indefensible parts of the delta. Even the pipelines that run through the more urban SW are routinely vandalised by Creek rats. If only the country had shown more seriousness in defending other sectors of the economy like the vigor they are showing with oil. 17 Likes |

How about the Fulani Herdsmen killing people? dont they count? Enugu Farmers fought back against the fulani people and the farmers were arrested for defending themselves. meanwhile the fulani people went scot free. I Nigeria you can protest peacefully, which is everbodies right. Why were IPOB people murdered in cold blood while the fulani people walk free killing? 11 Likes 3 Shares |

So many They can't fight Boko haram people or the fulani herds men, it the people that are not killing that the army is concerned with. Well we can all see that Buhari does not value the south-south nor south-east and sees it as conquered terrority. 6 Likes |
