adedavid501: Many here seem to have contrary beliefs, but I strongly believe the truth isn't far from our claims. But whatever the main reason is, I'm sure we've all been enlightened in one way or the other, which is the main aim of the forum/thread. Cheers |

SenatorJChris: Again, at the end of my comment on the subject, I did state that it might not have said it all. So, yeah I don't expect you to accept it as the sole reason. I'm happy to learn more on this. Furthermore, I actually responded to a comment that thought the MSc criteria was for cost reduction. So, my point was mainly to score down the suggestion. I can't seem to see where I said NB won't employ one without an MSC. I'm more particular about the reason for the MSc criteria and when it all started. Of course, they may have the criteria, and yet find an impressive resume and cover letter that they may decide to consider. I've heard of candidates that made it to the final stage of recruitment, only to be told that they can't be given an offer because they didn't pass the document verification stage (SHELL, someone applied to SRD with 2.2 back in 2012). To be clear, I'm saying your point is right. |

SenatorJChris:People hired last year were for brewing and packaging and all had masters, the logistics people that joined last year were from consolidated breweries 2013/2014 management trainee set which didn't require a masters degree, if you remember, NB took over CB early last year 1 Like |

adedavid501: This explains it all. So, we were both right then. He wrote based on the information gathered from his friend who joined without a masters degree. And you just supported his claim only that his friend must have joined through consolidated breweries and so didn't require a masters degree following the acquisition of CB by NB. |

Please who knows how many of us that were invited for the test? A friend told me we were over 1000 which I doubt. |

2rutalk1: Surely more than 1000 peeps were invited for the test. I was number 1030 on their list. But I doubt if everyone on those lists showed up. |

adedavid501:Ur assertion is very wrong; in today's Nigeria nobody would resign on a job that pays up to N500,000 a month because he wants to go for masters, what is the possibility that he would even get a job after the masters? I believe the masters criterion was just to reduce the crowd. 2 Likes |

The conclusion and outcome of the exercise will clear all doubt as to the real reason for MSc requirement. For now let's focus attention on the process. Anyone has idea of the next stage? 1 Like |

ethene:I thought as much. N500K for that matter. Meanwhile, despite the Msc criterion, over 2k applicants showed up even when the test was conducted only in Lagos. How much more if the test held throughout the States of the Federation. Unemployment problem in Nigeria is so alarming. |

ethene: This is the weakest argument I've read here. What are you saying my bro? Have you heard about long term career goals? Jeezzzz!!! Don't be so short sighted pls. Haven't you heard about being ambitious and taking the risk to achieve your goals? What's 500k when you can earn 1m to 1.8m? Besides, most leave the much cherished 500k in pursuit of international careers or career change. Pls ask HR staff from Chevron, Exxon, Total, Shell, Eni, etc if they don't experience similar challenge. Why do you think, Shell, Total, Eni, etc have an arrangement to sponsor staff to obtain higher degrees? To be clear, Eni has Eni University where they send their graduate employees to for training, where they obtain an equivalent msc degree upon completion. Similarly, Total has an understanding with IPS in Naija and their French trainers/University where they either recruit from or send graduate employees to for them to obtain their masters degree. Shell, on the other hand, has an agreement with Robert Gordon University (UK) to train their wells staff at masters level and even UCL and Imperial College for othe fields. Some of these top employers take different measures to ensure staff retention. I'm aware oil servicing companies operate with "soldier go soldier come" approach, but few such as SLB now have study leaves while others that don't have risk losing their staff. I have only spoken about companies that I've got facts about. I know a friend that resigned from Halliburton after 4 months of joining (he gets 360k basic and gets over 500k depending on his days on field) to join Chevron. To further worsen your surprise, an ATP (Graduate Engr) of Halliburton who was recruited having just returned from the UK with a masters degree, resigned after a year to further his education having been awarded a PhD scholarship. So, even the masters degree ain't a guarantee, different people have different career goals. So, dnt be limited by your drive for money; in fact, if that's your sole motivation, recruiters will fish you out and drop you from the recruitment process. Just to add, people even resign after saving enough money to further their studies in Canada, US and Australia in pursuit of Permanent Residency and Citizenship #FACTS (Ask around about this point, some even do menial jobs overseas until they get their papers) I don't know your career level atm, but I know people usually speak this way prior to landing their first job. But your career goals, drives and motivations increases, broadens or stretches once you've gotten that first job. By then, you'll now see 500k as not good a pay, and once you've thought out a plan on how to improve, your resignation may follow. Furthermore, most fresh graduates apply for jobs indiscriminately just to be able to earn a living or kill boredom. Thereafter, they start seeking career or job satisfaction, etc. This is supported by MASLOW'S HIERARCHY OF NEEDS... I'm sorry if I've deviated from the subject, but I think we should also support each other in making the right career decisions. Yes, not everyone will be willing to resign their 500k jobs to go for masters coz they ain't sure if they'll even get such a pay even after their msc, but there are selected few that do that even amidst the discouragements from colleagues, friends and families who will be speaking in line with what you've said here. And sadly, employers are actually after these few, though not in the like to resign but in the sense that they're CONFIDENT, ambitious, motivated, adventurous, ready to try, ready to improve and develop capacity, ready to advance, always seeking opportunities to gain skills and knowledge, etc. These characteristics are sought after in addition to commitments, dedication and passion to pursue a carer with a company or in a business line. 13 Likes 1 Share |

Apologies @Ethene, I never meant you "Ethen". I was being generic with "You". I didn't mean it to be directed to you. I just meant if a candidate was solely motivated by the pay, then such a candidate will be screened out. So, "You" was used as a pronoun in that sense. Once again, I apologise for any discomfort my poor grammatical expression may have caused you. Best wishes bro. 3 Likes |

Lolz Mr catchdwind has explained it all, it's up to you to believe him or not, things in you change when you finally get a good job, your technical knowledge, work experience, living standard, career aspirations and confidence that you can achieve anything increases which makes those people make such decisions as he said...it's just not possible for some people to understand at the moment. This issue is common with the engineers applying for this job. For the recruitment, NB has been using the same process for many years, workforce will do the initial screening and test of about 2-3thousand people in unilag then only about 50-70 people are invited for the assessment centre day which is a full day of different activities and is done in about 5 groups for about 5 days and in the end about 10 -15 are employed. All of this may be done this month or next. So keep on praying your invitation to assessment center mail lands because a lot of people will do well in the test, it's just the amount of people needed that's the issue. 4 Likes |
