According to Okoroafor, “Out of 6.1 million tons of rice needed to feed Nigerians, Kebbi State farmers alone produced over one million tons.

WOW!!! We can do this!

Okoroafor said the Apex bank is set to increase loans to rice farmers. The farmers in reaction said they are yet to be able to access the funds.

The above though. cheesy

First why is a bag of rice selling for N21k presently? This is not a sign that we have enough to feed the nation already. Please you liars should stop spitting imbecilic lies on our faces.

Because we all want foreign rice na, we wil export our own and import for local consumption. Shikena.

Would it be a bad thing if it's sold for 6k for one bag thus making it affordable for even minimum wage earners?

I think not

For 6k? Common.

You expect someone to toil under the scorching sun for about 4mnth and sell one nag for 6k?

No wonder no one want ro go into farmin! When you can import and sell within a week and make 600k?

All those imported cheap rice we are used to buying are subsidized by the gov't of those countries to keep their citizens employed.

I also just bought a bag of indian long grain last friday at 14k. The price might be higher now but i believe the forces of demand and supply would force down the price later.

if we keep calling N21k when it's N13 or N15k, Nigerians traders has no decorum, some can increase their price thinking they are selling below market prices. True information is for everyone govt shouldn't lie, masses shouldn't too.

Eat your rice abeg. Fccuck off with your foods.

From the south east to the southwest or south south, there is no area of present Nigeria which cannot produce enough food for its people, if Arewa continues to resist political reforms and Nigeria dissolves to many countries.

Which one be your oil? Come and collect it na?Oil that's for every Nigerian the same way the north feeds and protect you from starvation.
Nigeria will work and we shall all reap the fullness of her abundance in human and material resources.
If you don't want it for Nigeria, then you need Jesus in your life.
See how sentiment is clouding your judgement, do the north give their agriculture to the federal account or they give you their food for free?

Nigeria to begin exporting rice from Kebbi State

The Buhari led administration said Nigerian farmers would begin exporting rice in months.

The statement was made on behalf of the president by the Acting Director, Corporate Communication of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Isaac Okoroafor.

According to Okoroafor, “Out of 6.1 million tons of rice needed to feed Nigerians, Kebbi State farmers alone produced over one million tons.

Okoroafor said the Apex bank is set to increase loans to rice farmers. The farmers in reaction said they are yet to be able to access the funds. In response, Okoroafor stated that “From the N220 billion, we are doing what is called the Anchor Borrower Program. We have just completed a pilot project in Kebbi State on rice and other states like Ebonyi, Taraba and Benue are queuing up.

“The Buhari led administration have realized that when farmers borrow money on their own to plant tomatoes, rice, cassava, and other farm produce, after harvesting, nobody take the produce from them and the market is lean too.

If Nigeria could export oil and experience fuel scarcity, then we can export rice becos we need the dollar it brings. Fuel isn't giving us enough dollars again.

You can not be talking of export when you have not covered 30 percent of local demand. Not that you will not export but that should not be your policy statement. It is just like Innoson motor that is constantly saying they are exporting automobiles when they have not covered 10 percent of local market. If your production is efficient and cheap, your products will travel far but there is no need to have a 100 mound farm while going about saying you have 10 thousand.

QuotaSystem:

Read carefully and save yourself the embarrassment.

It is a pilot program that just started and these are the first fruits so how does that affect the price of rice that's already in the market?

With the success of this pilot program, more farmers will subscribe to the Anchor Borrowers Scheme and the output will be in geometric multiples of what you're seeing here so don't burst your pipes already.

Risible! Feed the nation first before running to the press with sky-high dreamland unmet projections. Nigerians don't want more wishy-washy government talking....we need results! Please don't quote me with another ridiculous sickening plan! angry angry

The major benefit of correct census figures, everybody having an id and a current account is that economic actors will have access to loans. For now, the masses make do with cooperative societies which is much more cumbersome

The purpose of information like this is to facilitate progress tracking. The Nation will be fed and the North will export her resources to finance her ongoing return to her glory years.

Haters are welcome.

I give up if you don't understand how food keeps the economy.Imagine a scenario where you have fuel in your car but no food in your tummy or if you have money but no food to buy.
It's your hatred for Buhari for defeating GEJ your hero that makes you recklessly ignore the truth. Nothing more!
