KolaShangOne: My request above was not about the Fascia issue.... it is about wood Noggins for the entire roof. "Hardwoods" that are "comparatively light" in weight, to other hardwoods (in whatever size you cut them to). Kolashangone: I buy the wood in bulk then cut into desires sizes. This method helps to save cost and also helps to ensure that sizes are accurate. I also wanted to ask: Since you sawed your roofing wood yourself (to save cost),did you have to buy a LOG of wood (Tree size), a certain size of wood or what? ....and at what cost. https://www.nairaland.com/2564740/budget-roofing-finishes-nairalanders-2units As to the fascia, l am referring to using 2x2 (hardwood) at the EDGES only (where l highlighted in yellow colour).... in place of a continuous flat board. Truly as you said, it will require more craftmanship-effort (burdensome ) but l am looking at the "weight advantage" if one can surmount the "burden disadvantage". Thanks you. Lastpage! |

Load Test | Stone-dust (CGF) block vs Sharp Sand Block @ msogunro, At 200kg (1.96kN) both blocks survived the load test. I wanna do more. I'll drive a pickup on both.

n3xt: Nice, but you will need a lot more weight than 4 bags. If either of them failed that test, the maker should be jailed. 1 Like |

Is it possible to get a block wall this neat in Nigeria? My floor plan is complete and we're now working on interior and exterior details. In some interior and exterior areas of the house I would like to leave the blocks exposed so that they can be painted. Any reasons why there shouldn't be exposed block walls in Nigeria? Pic 1: Exposed block wall Pic 2: Painted block wall. Pic 3. Painted block wall. I want to treat some areas in and outside my house like pic 2 & 3. I suspect this will also save some funds because plastering i's eliminated from certain areas.

Brabus I envy you o. You seems to have all the time in the world to do online presentations and arguments but then how much time do you spend on site daily to supervise and concentrate on your projects so as to avoid costly mistakes? Just thinking out loud here.... 7 Likes |

msogunro: I like the idea too and I was going to do the same but the way they set blocks in Nigeria is different from how they do it in Nigeria. If you paint the walls without plastering in Nigeria, you are in for a shock. Those blocks in the picture are different from the ones available in Nigeria. |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by Nobody: 6:42pm On Jun 01, 2016 |
msogunro: This is impossible in Nigeria. Any builder that says otherwise should post pictures of his actual block setting. Not some fictitious foreign company's work I went down this path and was completely frustrated. The only was you can come close is poured concrete wall and you can then stencil block work pattern on it. |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by msogunro: 6:48pm On Jun 01, 2016 |
FastShipping: Not the answer I was hoping for, but if it is just the way the blocks are set I believe there is a solution. We're considering buying concrete block spacers. 3k -4K spacers can be purchased inexpensively. Of course, the exposed blocks will be treated and the painted walls will get a layer of the appropriate primer. |

KolaShangOne: I have had to deal with several Suppliers and Clients on this type of issue. You are definitely right. Why should a Client want you to supply goods or services without having money to pay for it? Why will an artisan agreed to do a work for a Client and the cost is agreed upon, then for the Client turning around and try to renegotiate the cost when the artisan has already finished the work. We all have to be fair in everything we do in life, both the Clients, Suppliers, Artisans alike. My little "Word of wisdom". Hajji M. 1 Like |

Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by msogunro: 8:21pm On Jun 01, 2016 |
EgunMogaji: May be true, but the difference in size isn't significant. The blocks are made using moulds so they should be very, very close. To notice the difference in size would require close examination. |

CGF Block vs Sharp Sand Block It'll be very unfair to compare the strength of the two types (stone-dust and sharp sand) of block. We eventually drove a truck on the CGF and it did not break. Test continues tomorrow when we will be comparing the strength of CGF Hollowed Core Blocks vs Sharp Sand Non-Hollowed Blocks. It'll be worthwhile to do carry out Resistance test on the CGF Hollowed Core Blocks and Sharp Sand Non-Hollowed Blocks. _____ But $100 cannot buy a shotgun. Where's my pneumatic gun? #TestContinues

spyder880: Your opinion is highly appreciated. If you have nuggets of knowledge to share with us about anything discussed, please feel free to contribute. With the way I see people hailing you left and right on this site, I expected you to chime in with something more substantive than "#importthespacers". Is it possible to build a wall as neatly as this picture below? Any reason why block walls shouldn't be painted in Nigeria? Patiently waiting for your response, boss.
