Hello house, been following this thread for a few months although I never commented. Thanks to the information I got on here, I was able to successfully scale through Immigration at LAX POE last Saturday...although I was held for about 7 hours but they had no choice but to release me as I was well prepared. My question now is I need recommendations for hospitals in/around Fontana, California. My initial plan was to give birth in Texas and I had concluded arrangements with the doctor there. But California is more convenient for me as I got a very beautiful free accommodation. So...please I will appreciate any and all recommendations. Thanks |

Deeuzor, congratulations on your smooth entry into the US. I would advice you get to work immediately to try and get more clarity on the cost of delivery in the particular county you would be staying at. You may just get shockingly affordable rates. Google hospitals using the county name and post codes, review Morden health care magazine publications, check health grades for names and hospital reviews, use Zocdoc.com to checkout ObGyns, call hospitals directly too. Another factor to consider when streaming through options are the owner/ ownership of hospitals generally Public hospitals and Mission owned ( Catholic,Anglican,Methodist and the likes) are cheaper than Privately owned hospitals. Don't be overwhelmed by all I've written here just open your mind , it will all end in praises to God. My 2 cents dear. Enjoy your stay! 12 Likes |

Congratz on your successful entry. However, in the spirit of giving back, it will be applauded and important you post your POE transcript like others do for us to read. I believe you and many of us learnt from couple of persons POE experience from there transcript posts in here. I would have expected you do same. This thread was based on that bedrock, learning from each other. I don't think the likes of Lady G and all the beautiful women, mums, dad, mums to be etc with their lovely comments/assistance so far will proffer answers to your question(s) if you don't do the needful. My thoughts though.... DeeUzor: 12 Likes |

blaize777: Hmmmmmm!!! Let me start by saying Your help comes from the Lord. Always remember psalm 121. I do not think that a structed payment plan will affect your holidays or visas. However because of the sensitivity of the subject matter, and in other to protect you from future harassments, if I may give some suggestions, I will advice that you do the following: A) get some proof for the original payments made to the hospital inaddition to the other zero balance documents you have collected B) get a report stating reason for upsurge in bill, (this may help show that the outstanding balance was not reasonably forseeable and therefore not intentionally owed) C) get a written payment plan stating amounts to be paid per month, dates and modes of payment agreed and have it signed by all parties including you/hubby. This is because, a written agreement is easier to prove...shows a commitment All suggestions are subject to additional comments. Please be proud of yourselves...you both have held strong through it all and am glad your hubby can find humour in it too. This too shall pass. 18 Likes |

isysleek: 1. Travel with the 2 passports. Make sure the first one has been cancelled without prejudice if it's still valid. 2. Your kid should have their visas embossed with the passport numbers that can travel with. If your passport is one of them, they can travel with you. |

Thanks for your suggestion. My LAX POE experience I renewed my B1/B2 visa in March 2016 and sent a notification of intent mail in April 2016. When I got to the immigration desk, I was asked for my purpose for the visit and I told the officer that I was here to have my baby. Without him asking, I brought out my notification of intent mail, email communications with my doctor and bank statements. He asked how much cashbibwas carrying, i told him USD4k asides the money in my account and credit card. He looked at them and asked me to step aside that he'll like his colleagues to look more intently at my papers. When we got to the CBP office, I waited almost 3hours before my name was called. Walked up to the officer, he asked me the same questions, I gave him the same answers. He started trying to nitpick my answers. He said in my visa application I had filled in 4 weeks for my duration of stay which doesn't correlate with me asking for entry to give birth. I told him I honestly couldn't remember what I filled in. Again, he asked why my husband wasnt with me when I had filled him in as my travel companion. I told him my husband couldn't travel now and would be joining me later. I refused to be rattled by his questions. He told me to go sit down and then took my documents into another inner office. After about another 2.5hours, I was called by another set of officers (a man and woman). The following convo ensued: Female POE Officer - Do you speak English? Me: Perfectly well F POE Officer - What do you do? Me: I am a lawyer and I work in...... Male POE Officer - Ma'am, we are sorry we kept you waiting this long. Your documents are in order but we need to verify that you have enough funds to foot your bills. Me: But I have USd4k here and you can see from my bank statement and my husband's bank statement that we can afford to foot the bills. M POE officer: That's right ma'am but you know printed statements can be doctored. F POE officer: Why didn't you pay your bills before you came in? Me: the hospital specifically states that pre-payments are not allowed. How about I log into my Internet banking portal to show you my live balance. F POE officer: That's better. She helped me connect to the wifi on my phone but my line wasn't roaming so I couldn't receive my OTP to log in. F POE officer: Okay, lets call the doctor you are going to give birth with. We tried his line but it was past official hours so no one picked. M POE officer: what are your accommodation plans? Me: I'll be staying with my mum and family friends. M POE officer: Oh, your mum is here? What does she do? Is she a citizen? Me: No she's not. She's retired and she shuttles between Nigeria, Dubai and US amd spends equal time between the 3 locations. M POE Officer: Can we call her? Me: Of course. (Gives them her number) They speak to her for about 10mins. Ask her if she's aware I am here to give birth. She stylishly says yes without being too blunt and then as if she knew where they were headed, she said that they need not worry about funds because if the money on me is not enough, she is more than able to foot the bills. The call ended and he came back to me M POE Officer: Ma'am, please ensure you pay all your bills and keep the receipts on you when you are leaving. I'll be back shortly. He came back about 5mins later. I had been stamped in for 6months. LESSONS LEARNT. 1. Go with printouts of all and any documents relating to your trip. 2. Never lie about your intentions. These people have heard the deepest lies and know all the tricks. I saw 2 people deported because they didnt state clearly that they came to give birth. 3. Be calm and patient. The long delay is just a mental game. Of the 7 hours i spent there, my actual conversations all lasted less than 30mins cumulatively. 4. If you can, travel with up to USD 10k in cash. Apparently, I was delayed because they needed to ensure I had access to more than the USD4k cash I was travelling with. 5. Be confident and prepare your mind for a delay. That way, if you are delayed, you won't be too rattled. herrik066: 11 Likes |

Hi Wolefola, Congrats on the success of ur missionary journey! Please, kindly pm me the details of the doctor and accommodation that you used. Also, is the hospital good becos someone gave me negative reviews about them? That someone was trying to sell her maternity package to me which included hospital+doc reg, acc, transp, weekly grocery shopping et al! Which airline did you book ur flight with? KLM/Airfrance? Also, how long did it take you to process all the docs for ur baby? Thanks. wolefola: |

greatie: You are entitled to 4,000USD every quarter. So if you did not get up to 4k from Stanbic, you can make up the difference at your other collection. Please has anyone gotten PTA from Standard Chartered or GTbank recently? What was their rates? Stanbic, standard chat and Gtbank claims they would give me PTA but closer to my travel date next month but only Stanbic has been clear on the rates they offer. 1 Like 1 Share |
