Furiad:Which medical school are you? That's the starting point for everyone and it is the easiest part of med. School. The 'specialty thing' u are asking for won't be easy as you think when you get there. Enjoy your 100L and don't wish for anatomy, physiology or Bcm, yet because there are not sweet and simple as you think. I felt same way back then, always anxious to do the main thing... Hierarchy of Doctors Well, now that I’ve mentioned all the staffs that work in a hospital….. Let me teach all of you the Hierarchy of Doctors: 1) House officers: These are the house boys (like me, lolzz). They are the first to be exposed to patients (even Ebola patients, lolzz), they are the ones that sleep in the hospital when on call. They are the ones that the registrars, nurses and other foooools always love to vent their frustration on…. And we swallow that bitter pill for one full year, before we swallow another NYSC pill for another year 2) REGISTRARS: During or after nysc, we write exams (primaries) to be admitted READ MORE |

Tell me! What do you have? Never mind, cos it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you didn’t get an F. As long as you have a secondary high school certificate that is valid and accredited in your country or internationally, you can use it to apply for admission and scholarship to study at top-ranking universities in Europe. I said as long as you didn’t get an F, because there are merit-based and location-based scholarships available for bachelor, masters and PhD students. Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by nelszx: 2:10pm On Jun 04, 2016 |
labodinho: Hmmmm quite a submission though u tried, at the bolded, a Medical laboratory scientist does everything in all the department u listed. His training covers all, I know u may want to argue but let get facts right. As regards PSA, even a student scientist knows what it is let alone a practicing scientist. A Medical laboratory scientist (chemical pathology major) or even any major/ intern run doz tests and they know when deres any abnormal value but as good citizens we are we refer dem to their doctors (law of the land) For abnormal and normal blood cells (RBC and WBC) alike an intern can read the slides and interpret them flawlessly and report a case of normal and abnormal cells (an intern/generalist/ Haematology major). It's a routine dey do everyday and they know the significance of everything they see even identification of leukemia. See Mr I'm not saying that the pathologist knows more than the "Medical" laboratory scientist. The pathologist sees the patient primarily and relate whatever case to the patient while the sample received in the lab represents the patient to the Medical Laboratory scientist. As for the refractory case due to antimicrobial resistance, a Medical laboratory scientist (Medical Microbiology major) can sought out ways to that case. In case you don't know, A Medical laboratory scientist is trained in all aspects of pathology (Yes..all; Clinical chemistry, Medical Microbiology, mycology, parasitology, virology, immunology, histopathology, cytology, cytogenetics, molecular diagnostics, Haematology, BGS, forensics) but he chooses to specialise in one or just be a generalist. A B.MLS holder can successfully man any if not all department in pathology but a pathologist (dr) upon successful completion can only man 1 lab. If you doubt me put a Dr (Haematologist) in medical microbiology and watch blunders of the highest degree but that can never happen to a MLS. We don't make noise on what we do. In the case, of ebola and lassa fever outbreaks whom do you think was confirming the virus? A pathologist? Hell No but a Medical laboratory scientist (medical virology and molecular diagnostic major) Or do you forget the same areas of training a pathologist do at postgraduate diploma level is same areas a Medical laboratory scientist does at bachelor level den continue on one aspect at postgraduate level? 1 Like |

Micsnazzy:Yes, in Unical, you go for IT in year three. When you go for nysc, majority are sent to the classroom to teach, so don't hope for any hospital job. |

nelszx:thankz for this write up, you've posted my mind, 9ja doctors no dy gree, ah mean an MLS stdent wil spend 5 gud year learnin the whole laboratory courses then sum1 who did laboratory medicine in hs year 4 claim he knws better cos he has MD attached to hs name the patient should be the number 1 priority nt B.mls or Mbbs, wat wil happen to a patient who went for test and was diagnos wid hiv, bt the doctor pathologist claims he knws better and runs another test probably did a wrng analysis and cum wid another disease, and tel the patient to go treat it nt the patient goes nt knwin he has wrongly bin diagnosed by an individual who claimd the MD made him better than the B.mls .instead of comin together and do sumthng good pathologist wahala dy tire me o i swear. Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Millex(m): 6:37pm On Jun 05, 2016 |
Superjaytop:It's all up to you, you can choose to drop it all and take Jamb next year and chase it. You can also continue with physiology and go with DE and Utme after uni. The thing is what ever decision you chose, you have to think it through, think properly, what do you want? Are you willing to do what it takes? Also you have to make sure whatever you choose you don't have regrets. Try jamb next year, no harm there but still take physiology serious, study it like you life depends on it. If med doesn't work out now you would need your good GPA in physiology to get admission for DE. Then again choice is yours 1 Like |
